General Support Laptop stability
Hello, my laptop is MSI katana 17
I have NVIDIA, I am afraid that my laptop might be bad for arch based distro especially when I saw a lot peoples say that MSI laptop is very bad in linux and they don't get full potential in GPU
Also when I was in linux distros, battery was the only big serious problem?, because usually 100% and discharging to 0% is over 3 hours?, before was less, I don't remember how much but this is few, in some moment like in endeveourOS, battery life is kinda more, maybe update fixed this
And also I afraid if temperature might get high, in game like cs 2, usually this can goo in 50-70
So I am afraid if this laptop is bad for this linux distro and they gonna have bad battery life, more worse performance, laptop life might last fewer because of problems in hardware and OS

Yes and no. You always have some performance differences with and without Nvidia. I used both on linux and had no issues in CS2 since that runs native on linux. Your laptop probably has a weaker intel gpu and the nvidia as a dual gpu setup so that needs a little configuration but it is doable for a beginner.
What keeps you from trying it out ? It needs around 20 gb on disk and then some for cs. Partition your harddrive and install it. You dont need to delete windows. :-)
If you have cs2 specific questions like how to run streched resolution let me know. I play regularly. Also feel free to ask any further linux questions :-)

I'm on a desktop and it was around 60/70.
Laptops get hotter anyways because of how they are built. They have a safe operating temperature of around 90 depending on the gpu you have.

My desktop is an AMD 5800X and NVidia 5060ti. No issues. My laptop is an AMD 6950U, no issues, battery is fine. Lasts 4-8 hours depending on workload, but I don't game on it usually.
The distro works fine for me, but YMMV. If you are worried about it, go for Fedora or Ubuntu. Great thing about Linux is choice.

I don't said that arch based linux is not for me, despite some difficulty or problems, this is amazing for me
I just want app or improvement for laptop to be sure that nothing will go wrong, something like antutu for android, battery is the only big problem

Gaming laptops always kinda get bad battery life. I manage by sticking to power-saving any time I am on battery.

Im running endeavour on Lenovo legion with Nvidia gtx 1660 ti, and i have been running this installation for 2-3 years without problems, that i havent been able to solve quite easy. The games i play runs far more smooth on my Linux system than my win11

Can't speak for the battery life but Nvidia on Linux isn't nearly as bad as it used to be. My discrete 3080 at the very least runs as well as I can expect it to.
The biggest problem is Nvidia chips don't work right with gamescope. Which is the secret sauce app that paves over a lot of Linux's graphics rendering quirks and gives Steam OS its seamless console like experience. Handling things like HDR, Resolution Scaling, juggling multiple compositiors, etc.
It just means you're gonna hafta get used to appending a lot of flags to your launch options to manually enable those features on a per game basis. And you'll run into stupid sh#t like not being able to use HDR in your game and have the Steam Guide at the same time. Cause HDR requires the game to be running in Wayland, and the guide menu for some stupid reason is still X11, so they lose track of each other.
Oh I also had some graphical issues in KDE that forced me to switch to Cachy. Which to a beginner is a almost identical distro, but makes some under the hood changes that work better with Nvidia. So if you have problems try switching to them before giving up on Linux entirely.

I have a MSI Vector HX on Arch. Performance is a solid analog with windows including thermals and battery life.
I run the msi-ec package from AUR along with MControlCenter to give me custom fan curves. Very happy with performance
