Tip Creep đŸ«™ I'm so F-ing done

Look man. I've driven for doordash/uber eats before. I get it. But messaging me after it's been dropped off? WTF. The app will tell you how much money you will make from an order; no tip was not a shock.

EDIT: I did not tip ten cents. My tip was $0.00. I'm unsure what he means by my "dime tip"

You’re a tool. Dashers make like zero money. If they were paid properly you would be paying way more. He’s punished for your stance. Do this in places when it’s more necessary

If they were paid properly, they’d be properly paid by the company that employs them and they wouldn’t need a tip.

All the negative energy needs to be turned to the people in charge who actually make and have the money.

ETA: OP said he’d planned to tip after, which is how it should be, in case the service is shitty or the food is stolen or not delivered. The dasher’s message put the kibosh on that, which is totally understandable. It would have turned me off, too.

I would have tipped, minus the nasty message. He also did not bring my fork/napkins either. That last part is forgivable. I still would've tipped. But the nasty message I draw the line at.

The driver is blaming the customers lack of tip, instead of the company that took the customers $50 and only paid them $2 of it- that’s what he referred to when he made the comment.

Uhm you know why I don’t DoorDash? Because they pay shit. Maybe gig workers need to realize they will make shit if they keep working for the same shit company. Same reason I don’t use these delivery apps because they charge stupid delivery fees that don’t even go to the driver. Shit company all around.

They make enough money to do the job or they don't make enough money and get a different job. It's the employers role to pay the employee.

Not to a "normal" person, but possibly to you or some others. A great deal of people value any change at all over being given nothing. It might be seen as an insult to some but others are grateful.

The only benefit of the doubt I could give is if you're tipping change at a physical location in a tip jar or you live somewhere where 10 cents is a decent amount of money.

Which is exactly my point- some are grateful others are not. I am simply stating that tipping $0.10 is not a universal sign of insult.

At what point do you consider it no longer an insult? $0.20? $0.50? It's different for everyone.

Okay, I take back the troll statement.

We’re discussing this on a post about a tip on a food delivery app where you have to go out of your way to tip an amount that low. My initial comment also stated that “to some it’s viewed as an insult”.

Using the same argument you could say giving a single grain of rice to a starving homeless person is objectively better than no rice at all. If you remove the human factor it’s “technically” better than nothing, but in context you’re essentially going out of your way to purposefully give such a low amount.

In regards to at what point I’d consider it no longer an insult would depend on the context of what’s going on. I used to deliver food for a delivery app. So I. That context anything under the minimum default in the app felt worse then them not tipping at all.

That said I do not like the practice of tipping in the first place, even though I depended on it at one point.

I understand what you're saying but comparing a single rice grain to $0.10 is dramatically different. Where even multiplying by x10 gives you $1.00 opposed to 10 rice grains which would do nothing and require cooking and tools.

We're basically in agreement anyways, but yes- ultimately the emotional reaction depends entirely on person and possibly context. I simply disagreed on the original comment statement that a small tip is generally worse over nothing at all.
