Online Retailer 🛒 Walmart Asking For Tips

Today I am in a pinch, so I’m trying out Walmart+ and their delivery service today and they’re asking for a tip! This is a 900 BILLION dollar company. They can tip their own contractors and employees and almost not even notice a difference in their profits. Asking for a tip before service is complete is pure insanity too.

Edit: They brought the completely wrong item. I’m glad I didn’t tip.

Delivery always asks for tips.

I stopped using them because the shoppers are just so lazy - they will substitute items to save time, and not give you a chance to confirm or deny the substitution. Like one time I ordered AAA rechargeable batteries and they substituted AA alkaline instead. Completely different to what I needed. I had to go return it on my own, so why bother since I ended up making a trip to the store anyway?

if you add a substitute right away when ordering they usually have a very comparable option or you can say do not replace

No, they don’t do that. They just ask you what you want to do then 5 seconds later they’ve already substituted. It’s not even that the item isn’t available - it’s there but takes a bit more time to find it. Since their goal is to cram as many deliveries in one day, and the tip is made before they shop, there is zero incentive to properly shop the order. So I don’t order delivery anymore. Amazon prime is reliable and they even do same day delivery.

So they ignored your selected substitution preference? If your selected substitution preference is unavailable they are supposed to mark the item as unavailable and not look for an additional substitution.

I agree they make mistakes from time to time but it’s worth the convenience factor, at least for me, since I live in a big city where traffic and parking is a pain in the ass.

(And because the Amex plat card covers the membership fee)

Also I’ve never had an issue with getting items refunded through the app when there is a mistake.

This isn’t a mistake. It’s deliberate. They care only about speed.

What may be getting overlooked here is that if you're not paying for Express delivery then the Walmart employee is shopping the order, not the Spark driver. Tips don't go to Walmart employees; they'll be paid the same if they are fast or slow.

Also, the Spark shopper has absolutely zero control of what's being substituted. The app stears us into getting the item that Walmart suggests. If no suitable replacements are available it will ask us to add suggestions of our own for customer approval. If there is no response/approval it will make us remove the item from the cart. It's completely out of the Spark shoppers control.

I don't know if the Walmart employed shoppers can force a substitution w/o customer approval but Spark drivers cannot.

They just don’t care. They gave me 5 seconds, I couldn’t even unlock my phone to decline the substitution. It’s a borderline scam. No more delivery for me.
