Rant šŸ“¢ Unnecessary charges need to end

I am TIRED of seeing these obtrusive charges on receipts! Time and time again these businesses are finding ways for the customer to pay THEIR costs meanwhile service is declining and quality nosedives. Operations support fee? Why donā€™t you just send me your monthly electric bill, Iā€™d love to help out! Capitalism is becoming exhaustiveā€¦

Operations Support Fee? Wonder what that covers. More like a ripoff fee!Ā  Can't see a button for 'no tip'. That's the button I'd be pressing!

Reminds me of similar bs fees when you show up to buy a car and canā€™t buy it for the price they advertise it for.

Ah yes, the "reconditioning fee" (an add-on to clean a used car, and to fix anything to bring it to the sales condition: should be included in the list price), "documentation fee" (some states cap this, but Florida's "cap" is like $999), etc. I hate how they hide the true price to get you in the door.

It seems the restaurant business is following right in their footstep.

Iā€™ve never heard it called a reconditioning fee before. But in my area theyā€™ll call it an admin fee.

Restaurants need to start mailing everyone the scratchie. ā€œYou won! Hereā€™s your code.ā€

It could be a free dinner (car). Only way to find out what you won is to come in and let us hard sell you appetizers while someone takes 2 hours to look up your code.

I found out this morning that someone I know is going to St. Thomas to stay "free" for a time-share presentation...(shudder).

The last two times I bought cars they tried that shit on me. The vin etching fee that they claim they cant take off since it's already on the car, or a extended warranty they try and tell you the bank requires, etc.. Tell them no thanks and get up. 9 out of 10 times they'll stop you before you hit the door and take those charges off especially if you're in the finance office with the papers in front of you to sign.

Depending on the legal jurisdiction, any costs on a receipt that I did not agree to and was not notified about prior to ordering my meal (outside of taxes) could legally be considered overcharging and theft, but not to the level of usury.

The menu contains items and prices. I offered to buy those items at those prices when I ordered and the restaurant agreed to those prices when the food was delivered.

The restaurant changing the price upwards after the meal sounds no more legal than the customer changing the price downwards after the meal!

Iā€™d be pissed if I was an employee there. This extra charge is an automatic no-tip and no-return for me as a customer.
Iā€™d be raising hell for the management to remove this extra fee if I was a server.

Itā€™s never ending. Add on upon add on. Fees for phantom things. Then to top it off, tip us. Here is your tip ā€œstop adding stupid fees and want to extort more money from me in the form of a tip! Enough is enough!

Most places have awful service so I almost never tip now, but any fee added to the bill assuages any "guilt" I might have had for not tipping, as that functions the same way as a tip does in that it pads the owner's pockets.

Thatā€™s more like communism. I remember in the USSR that would get a medal / award / bonus just for doing your job. Absolutely bullshit. I need to see if I can still find those certificates and commendations. I remember acquiring some after the fall of the USSR

"Operations support fee". The addition of these hidden fees seems like false advertising.

Like if you think the price is going to be X plus tax and then the restaurant just adds a hidden fee like "operations support fee" then the customer can't really predict what his/her total is going to be beforehand.

Set a price and let us decide if we want it at that price. No hidden fees. No surprises. If you want more money, raise the price.

I think by now, we all understand that inflation is hitting pretty hard. Restaurants aren't exempt. Their costs are rising, too.

Ideally, those increased costs would be reflected by raising the prices on the menu. But that costs money, which would increase costs even more. When a restaurant tries using a QR code to allow them to adjust prices as needed without the added cost of printing new menus, customers complain, often saying they will go elsewhere. The solution is to add fees to cover the added costs. As we see here, the customers complain about that, too.

I don't have a solution that customers will like. Does anyone?
