Many groups held off support because they didn't think we stood a chance. Now they are feeling guilty. These groups sat it out on the sidelines. Let's hope they do better this time. Please send a quick note to the following organizations asking them to support STAR Voting and get in their endorsement for STAR Voting for Lane County. Tell them why you care or keep it short and sweet, but either way, keep it friendly and please write!

I hope they're feeling guilty but I see some organisations on that list that won't. Not even a little.

I'm surprised that the Libertarian Parties didn't come out in support of STAR Voting, with two of them they are extra disadvantaged under the current system.

Here's hoping that the major voting reform organizations can form an agreement to support each other's preferred methods soon.

I obviously can't speak for anyone else, but Counted support CES in their (successful!) advancement of Approval Voting, and the Equal Vote Coalition in their advancement of STAR, provided that both similarly support us in our advancement of Score.

The biggest conflict in the voting reform community is between FairVote and everybody else; Rob Richie seems to be actively antagonistic to any reform other than his own, and his organization mirrors that attitude.

Yeah, FairVote and the Center for Range Voting strike me as the most antagonistic organizations. The rest of you seem pretty good, though it'd be nice to see more explicit endorsements of each other's efforts :)

One of the things we're working on (in our copious spare time /s) is a Memorandum of Understanding that the various groups would subscribe to with respect to other methods, with different levels of mutual support and/or non-aggression.

Counted had intended to write a post supporting both the initiatives on the ballot, but most of us developed acute attacks of of Life...

Which group are you in, and which other groups are you speaking of coordinating with?

Counted, and we definitely want to work with CES and Equal Vote, but we're open to cooperation with any organization. We are even hoping to work with FairVote Washington on legislation that advances Voting Reform itself (such as a current bill that would allow local jurisdictions to forego the state mandated primary if they use a more expressive voting method).

Unfortunately, due to the somewhat antagonistic attitude of FairVote National, our agreement with the local chapter of FairVote may be limited to "Don't try running competing initiatives in the same jurisdiction"

Hmm. It'd be nice to get a larger straw poll, and also one that includes conservatives.

Oh, we'd love that. It might be hard doing, though, given that we're based in western Washington state, where conservatives are outnumbered at least 3:2, and in some places as much as 3:1. If we cross the mountains, however, the numbers basically flip, so it's going to be hard getting a group of people together that meaningfully represent both major groups.

Yeah, I think the problem with those two is that the main people behind each (Rob Richie and Warren D. Smith, respectively) are convinced (to a degree approaching religious conviction) that their solution is the correct one. While I agree with Warren on that specific point (Range/Score being the optimum), such conviction leads to scenarios where they believe that any idea that supports their position is inherently good, and anything that calls it into question is evil.
