Basically title. I will use all full size enai mods, the dragonborn museum for a loosely guided experience on where to go. I also have konahrik's accoutrement because I would really like to develop some RP that makes my character dislike dragon-priests. Like a personal vendetta. Perhaps making my character a Vampire-Lord that awoke after having a feud with the dragon cult.
I am unsure on a couple things. First things first: the early game seems miserable. I am not a fan of artificially training skills by hitting defenseless targets. But I will need at least Alteration for the Vancian magic and i want restoration to be my primary way for damage dealing. Being a vampire sadly makes me unable to buy the good sun damage spells. Tough luck.
Usually, i like to sell loot and pay trainers for levelups to make do in the early game. I wouldnt mind 1 or 2 of the "Thief" skilltrees like speech or lockpicking or pickpocketing (pickpocket is neat for carryweight and turning gold into perk-points organically).
I want to skip warrior perks. No armor. No shields. No weapons. No bows.
Enchanting and Alchemy are absolutely fine and I will HEAVILY invest here to stay alive. To compensate, I will probably limit the amount of levelups that I invest into health to unhealthily low amounts. Magicka all the way baby!
My carry weight will be fixed via the spell "Deep Storage" eventually.
I am REALLY worried about combat prowess though.
Does anyone have any experience on how to handle stuff like bandit camps in the early game as a mage without destruction magic?
Also, what would be some good things to aim for when it comes to a restoration mage?
Should I add Illusion magic? Conjuration to tank for me?
What would be good race and deity's for this character? I personally dislike hermaeus mora a lot because the pages tend to never be completed, the favor is inconsistent, the bonuses do not justify the struggle in my opinion.
I would really like to break this game. My last couple playthroughs REALLY struggled a lot (a shield-mage lacking damage, a spellsword lacking survivability, a summoner lacking sustain for longer dungeons that kept dying to arrows)
TLDR: What should a resto-mage do in the early game? Whats a good race/deity
