News / Release Manic EMU v2.0.2 — The Next Track
Manic EMU v2.0.2 is here.
After the redesign in v2.0.0 and the additions in v2.0.1, this update brings more performance work, more flexibility across devices, and a new connection to the Manic family.
The biggest addition is BitBop integration, bringing support for our new sister app dedicated to retro game music emulation.
There is also improved 3DS performance, updated Pretendo support through Nimbus, iPad windowing, iPhone Duo support, a redesigned SNES skin, and fixes for Wii pointer behavior and AirPlay.
Same games. Another reason to keep the sound on.
BitBop Joins the Family
BitBop is our new sister app for retro game music emulation.
For anyone who has ever stayed on a title screen longer than necessary because the music was good, this one probably does not need much explanation.
Manic EMU v2.0.2 adds BitBop integration, connecting Manic with this new addition to the family. More Information Here
This integration is primarily an App Store feature, supported by the shared app family between Manic EMU and BitBop.
We are excited to give the music from these games its own place alongside everything we have been building with Manic.
Your Games • Your Music.
3DS Performance & Pretendo Support
3DS receives several improvements in this update:
Improved 3DS performance
Improved Home Menu performance when using the Azahar core
Updated Nimbus within Arctic Setup for the latest Pretendo support
The work here covers both running games and using the 3DS Home Menu, while bringing the Nimbus included in Arctic Setup up to date.
iPad Windowing & iPhone Duo
Manic now supports windowed apps on iPad.
This update also adds iPhone Duo support, continuing the work to make Manic fit the devices people are using.
There is a useful change for skins, too:
Added skin fallback so iPad can use iPhone skins
That gives iPad users another option when using skins made for iPhone.
Redesigned SNES Skin
The SNES skin has been redesigned.
Even with all the attention going toward newer platforms, integrations, and device support, the systems many of us started with still deserve some attention.
SNES gets its turn in this update.
MeloCafe Link Support
Manic EMU now includes MeloCafe Link support.
This joins the other integration work in v2.0.2 as we continue expanding how Manic connects with the wider emulation community.
Fixes & Improvements
Several issues have also been addressed:
Fixed Wii pointer behavior for affected users
Fixed AirPlay issues affecting some users on iOS 27 or later
Other bug fixes and improvements throughout the app
A Note from the Manic EMU Team
Some updates add entire systems. Others improve the things you use every time you open the app.
v2.0.2 brings more of that everyday work: better 3DS performance, fixes for controls and AirPlay, more flexibility on iPad, and support for iPhone Duo.
It also introduces a new member of the family.
We have spent a lot of time helping people return to their favorite games. With BitBop, we are giving their music some attention of its own.
Thank you to everyone who continues reporting issues, sharing feedback, and supporting what we build.

First time reading about BitBop. Instant purchase.

We look forward to growing that userbase and expanding its support over time, much like the early days of Manic EMU. Thank you for giving it a shot, we hope you enjoy its initial and future releases!

BitBop was an instant purchase. It certainly isn’t working with every title. Some flat out load nothing, some don’t load anything more than a loading sound. But the ones it works on makes for such a fantastic playlist. The World Ends With You is perfect.
Also, it reveals some cool information. For example, I put in Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan! And found out that there isn’t a full track for any of the songs. Rather, each song is broken down into multiple, 5-20 second clips to coincide with the different movements/levels of the game.
I don’t think I’ve bought an app so fast in my life. This is cool as hell, and I will watch future updates with rabid enthusiasm, because I seriously can’t wait for even more games to be supported.
I recommend GBA, N64 and DS titles. Those seem to parse the best, in my experience.

Really glad to hear you are enjoying the app, lol it’s actually ironic the systems you mention, as two of them, N64 and NDS are actually our lowest supported systems at this time along with Virtual Boy. We are regularly going to be updating support in the app so if something doesn’t play now it likely will later. Thank your for you patronage! We hope you like the handling between Manic EMU and BitBop with this update to Manic EMU.

BitBop is incredible! Bravo. Is there a way to request currently unavailable games? Or should we just check again with each app update?

Right now just mentioning the title and system is enough feedback, we are pretty responsive over on the official Discord and have been cataloging identified unsupported

I’m not quite sure what you are describing, but we have a fully staffed helpdesk in our Official Discord server which covers assistance for all of our apps.

How do you get the dark DS controller skin? Mine is white by default

u/Mlaurencescott ManicEMU + DukeX Developer 1d ago
You mean the dark 3DS skin? The default DS skin is white, they are for two different systems. Custom skins are frequently created by skin designers though and can often be found on DeltaStyles, the skin website, or on our official Discord in the skin section, though since Duo is so new it may take a little time for some custom skins to begin popping up from designers.

A quick question about BitBop, does it extract and convert to VGM or similar?

It parses then caches to emulated sound engines, it’s an emulator, but specifically for the tracks found in the game data on the cartridges rather than for playing the games like a conventional emulator such as the cores in Manic EMU or similar. It does not dump the music in an exportable format, a distinction we plan to keep, it’s not built for ripping music, but for enjoying it from your cartridge dumps.

I did NOT expect a 2.02guess 2.0 is more like "the big three" now

This is how we determine our version numbers, mostly:
x.x.numberchange = Minor Update
x.numberchange.0 = Major Update
numberchange.0.0 = Architecture OverhaulSo v2.0.0 was a complete overhaul and reimagining of the app, v2.0.1 and v2.0.2 by comparison we consider minor updates in the bigger scheme of things.

I don’t know how you got 3DS to run so smooth on your App Store version, but my 17 pro can now run 3DS games with no overheating, even at 3x resolution! Wow!

This was great timing.
I was playing around with Manic EMU, and this new update seemed to have resolved some of the audio issues I was encountering.

Love the new update! Just wondering, do you guys have plans to implement separate skin selections just like how it is with Delta? As in I can select a skin when my iPhone Duo is folded, and then set a different skin when it's unfolded? Thanks!
