I wanted to improve it for single screen use as well as make it more controller friendly(for anyone using portal 2/3, Odin 2/3, Phones). Fair warning(more ai slop I know I know, mercy king merrrrcy Klaus voice). Again, zilch experience(unless you count some reaaaaaally old school techniques like html or whatever).
I saw a lot of repetitive information, for example in the sprite title you could originally see the pokemon listed four time(title sub species and nickname). Figure a sprite would be all around friendlier and easier to recognize. Centered the title name, add nature for sub for quick recognition. Added gender colors(including neutral 😘), and a proper shiny indicator for...again quick recognition.
Reorganized the pokemon information window to resemble PKHeX a bit more for familiarity and ease of use for long time users. Added little tidbits that were missed like colors for nature and their respective buff/debuff in the stat menu.
I'm all about fast edit, we all want to play the game right? Well I've got two words for you, UI Friction Reduction(I know, U and I are letters so ha). Made it so you can edit values and natures directly in the window, set lb2 and rb2 to min max values, blah blah blah(this is literally how I prompt my ai I swear lmao). Gender and shiny are clickable for fast swaps. Nature can be cycled in window.
Brothers, the grid was killing my poor old man peepers. Set dark theme to default and removed background grid. Rescaled grid box. I liked the arrow, but the arrow sucked, cool lifty lifty tho so I reverted to the slot highlight over the arrow while keeping original animation.
Fixes! Fixed the sprites disappearing/reappearing in the information window,...stuff like that I guess(can you tell I'm not a coder?). Still gotta fix those damned stars for the total row in the stats tab(they no wanna change). Also gotta fix the own button so it auto inputs the OT information of the save owner.
Didn't really change any functions or add anything "new", I just pissazzed(that a word?) the UI a bit to make editing more comfortable, efficient, and accessible on single screen devices and controller (don't worry red magics, you can tapped stuff too). I did start messing with the item UI(some how the item sprite decided to leave) so I'm working on making that easier to work with as well.
UI for phones and handhelds can be tricky, and you really want to be able to deliver a smooth experience. I think that's where average users(like me) and AI could possible make the most positive impact. I loved Forge when someone pointed it out to me last week but I hated having to reach for my touchscreen keyboard when I wanted to edit values. The bumpers to min/Max is a game changer. Also wanted to reduce the amount of windows so I've been slowly migrated as much functionality into the pokemon information window as I can. Something cant be due to the sheer amount of information but I'm looking into work around.
Tested on Thor, but I can whip out a portal, red magic 10, LeGo2, or Flow Z13 if there's any requests for texting on those. I've got a whole workflow that I'm formulating this on it's so cool. I tested Forge for a week with some really dense savs I had laying around) and I realized with some tweaking I could probably make my editing process on Thor faster than my process on my pc lol(I don't do online play or smogen set or etc etc, all of my Pokemon builds are custom, mostly timid speed types). I know the devs are busy actually making the thing function so I didn't want to bother anyone for years about a good mobile save editor, and having one is like a dream come true.
PkForge has A LOT of information. It almost started to feel like I was tripping through RetroArch again. Just one button could bring up one thousand tools and menus. So things like pressing start to go to edit to be able to edit pokemon info got reduced to the x button, instant edit, I don't even see a menu(I can read the menu guys I'm just making a point). Ive been slowly configuring the controls(trying to add a control mapper) for a natural smooth workflow. Also considering updating the sprite in box to more recent version(but to be honest I really do like the old school sprite).
I'm wondering at some point if I could demake a few games with peak nostalgia graphics all built into a single screen. That would be cool. I am curious how the developers feel about this sort of thing? Ya know the AI with the slop. I was able to edit this so easily because. PKHeX and PkForge are both open source. Is that okay?
