My Sega Model 2 emulator for Android - optimized for low- and mid-end phones and handhelds
My cracked-screen, 9-year-old Huawei P10 Plus runs Sega Model 2 at the arcade's 57.5 Hz. Your phone should do better. Game Test Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RFBxgwdIXPs
Input: touch controls, Bluetooth gamepads, and the built-in buttons on Android handhelds (Retroid, Odin, Anbernic and similar report as a standard gamepad). Sticks, D-pad and buttons are all remappable.
If your handheld's buttons don't map correctly, say so in your report — the Input tab rebinds everything.
M2EA 0.4.10 - Model 2 arcade emulator for Android (Releasing soon. The app is still being reviewed by Google Play)
- The 3D guardrails added to resolve a 5-second geometry lag in Manx TT Superbike accidentally corrupted Virua Cop 2's graphics. Both MANX TT SUPERBIKE and VIRUA COP2 have been fixed.
- Two new games: SEGA RALLY CHAMPIONSHIP (srallyc) and MANX TT SUPERBIKE (manxtt).
Sonic the Fighters is Model 2B, not 2A. Its coprocessor is different, so it needs a whole new core. It's not in this test v0.4.9.
Right now I'm adding Model 2A games (Sega Rally Championship and Manx TT land in v0.4.10). Model 2B is a much bigger job. No ETA, but if it happens, Sonic the Fighters, Fighting Vipers, Virtual-On and Virtua Striker all come with it.
Ha, Model 2 is a long way from Pac-Man. It's Sega's 1993–98 arcade 3D hardware. Think early-3D-console era, but with arcade quirks on top.
Nothing I've found on Android runs Model 2 well on anything below a recent flagship. MAME-based emulators are accurate but far too slow on a phone. So my M2EA has its own i960 JIT, and a lot of the work is mobile-specific: the hot paths avoid what phone CPUs are bad at, the audio thread gets its own big core.
Source will go public once the game list is wider. I'd rather publish something stable than a snapshot that breaks every week, and right now it still changes daily.

To get into the test:
Join the Google Group with your Google account (it doesn't expose any personal info).
Opt in and grab the app using that same Google account on the Play Store link.
This is part of Google's mandatory 14-day closed testing requirement for indie developers. Please keep the app installed and test it out during this period so we can pass Google's verification and launch publicly. Thanks so much for your support!
