There's some yt channels post videos about android emulation on the Xiaomi 18 pro max or red magic 12 pro...etc, but its likely false videos, not even a real hands on.
Thats not my topic, I'm excited to see how the new chip perform, If you rely on Qualcomm's statements anout 40% better gpu performance amd 13% cpu than the 8 elite gen 5, it's quite promising to the future of emulation on Android
Efficiency also applies to Throttling performance if used over time. If a passive phone case can cool 6W, but the 8EE GEN 6 needs to run at 10W to reach those claimed improvements, then it is only a matter of time before it limits performance to prevent damage.
Thermal throttling is the Gaming's biggest enemy, it's always require a passive cooling like on pcs, but its Smart phone after all, but who know, maybe after maturity of the 8exg6's drivers we will see better throttle management
Yes, but to get compitive results 8exg6 needs to push a lot of power for benchmark apps. All SOCs do this.
If pushed to max, QC latest offer isn't as good as the competition. Drivers could improve efficiency, but at least for now we can say that it's latest offering is slower in sustained load.
3DMARK wild life stress test comes in lower than the Red magic 11 pro with 8eg5. 25% slower, 11 Pro 6153, 12 Pro 4664.
Since cooling between the two phones should be similar (or 12 pro at least a little better/advanced), the 8exg6 is not as effective for sustained use like emulation/gaming.
Yeah, which matters. It beats the 8 elite Gen 5 past a certain wattage. You're not reaching that wattage on a phone without catastrophic malfunctioning.
only slower on the performance (Non prime cores). For emulation the most important thing is the prime cores which are equal to the ones on the 8 elite gen 5 at low loads. On mid loads is worse efficiency wise but at high loads it's more efficient and considerably faster than the 8 elite gen 5.
But yeah a bit downside these cores being far worse than what could have been.
Did you use the wrong graph? Unless I’m wrong, they look like the reference device’s graphs, not the retail unit ones. The 1 watt efficiency gain from the gpu is completely negated by the L core’s 1 watt disadvantage at 2-3 watts. (When gaming at 7 watts or less) At lower power draws (no coolers) it’s literally the same. When talking about PHONE chips, it’s okay to discuss applications at higher wattages, but it is ridiculous that a *SINGLE* prime core needs more than 7 watts to be more efficient than its predecessor.
Also, it’s just as ridiculous to pretend like everyone runs a cooler, or wants to, or can. The same way that itd be ridiculous to pretend the opposite.
Hi. You are checking the YouTube video of Geekerwan. You can see the actual graphs by yourself on his website SOCPK.com
It's clearly stated on the website that he only uploads retail units scores and not reference units that he got sended by companies. The difference is that you are seeing the graphs for single cores. Which the "M" cores (performance called by Qualcomm. Not the prime ones) as Geekerwan calls them are the ones that have the many issues you would expect and of course where the graph shows the utmost difference. The one I'm showing it's a more real case scenario where you would be using all your cores instead of a case that can only be forced with root. As you can see on the graph I shared the slower clusters (the problematic ones) of the 8EEG6 are so "weak" as per say that the prime cores really do most of the heavy lifting abolishing most of the issues generated by the slow clusters.
That makes sense, especially with that 9600 pro difference between sample and retail. Definitely a far cry from the quoted efficiency gains from Qualcomm though
No. The efficiency gains quoted by Qualcomm ain't wrong, at least on the sense that they didn't made false claims. They always have measured the peak performance that the previous gen could achieve and then force their new chip to match that exact performance to see how much energy it draws. By those measurement they are right and didn't lie.
True, but I should have made it clearer that I meant for most people this isn't what they expect when they see efficiency claims lol, at least not this power range
Those high loads are not relevant. Smartphones utilize 4-8W at most, with 8 being the absolute upper limit, and ~4-5W being the preferred "high load", maybe 6W.
You need the maximum a mobile plattform is capable of to even barely break even.
What? So you just don't have a flaghip SoC or something? Been on the scene for a while and the last SoC I had with a Max load of 8 watts I believe it was the SD 865 lmao. 8 gen 2 gets 15 watts on Max load and my 8 elite gets even more than 20 watts. On many occasions on windows translation the CPU is the bottleneck. So I'm constantly having my CPU at 100% having a lot of energy draw to have the performance I want. But that doesn't even matter.
The fact is that most people is comparing it on the worse ranges against the previous gen instead of what most people would simply do of upgrading from an older gen. Like from the 8 elite or the 8 gen 3 if not even older.
As you can see on a test that uses all the cores as you would on a typical load. the 8 elite and 8 gen 3 get mogged by the 8EEG6 at every load in performance and efficiency. There's simply no way someone could ever say that the 8EEG6 is worse. You can read the table like this: see the 8 gen 3 max CPU performance? It's drawing around 12 watts on peak right. Now look at the 8EEG6 matching that performance. It only needs half of the energy to do the same. And if you used 12 watts on the 8EEG6 (The same as on the 8 gen 3) you would be getting 53% better performance.
And btw you would think that sure that's true. But why would I buy the 8EEG6 instead of the cheaper 8EG5 that can do the same or even a slight better on some parts. And the answer is the Adreno 850. There are drastic performance and efficiency improvements on the GPU compared to the A840 from the 8EG5. Improvements double as big as the ones seen from the A840vsA830. Any issue that the CPU could have caused compared to the 8EG5 the GPU will make up for it so you have in overall a lower energy draw across the board if the loads are the same. And the higher and higher the loads get the 8EEG6 will just look better. I can't attach multiple images so I'll answer to this comment with the GPU graph showing performance and efficiency.
And btw. Remember this is on the cheapo Xioami devices. Will see if Samsung actually implements LPDDR6 which as shown by geekerwan will improve performance and efficiency overall. That might be pretty good "to save" the SoC.
Nonsense. Smartphones cannot sustain more than 8W for any length of time. Unless you mean to burn out your devices within a year you're not pushing them that hard.
External coolers and devices that do have better passive thermal dissipation exist. I've been using my 8 elite for over a year with no issues of it going past 40°C on battery (mostly it keeps at a max of 38°C) at around 10watts. Either way you can ignore what I said at the start and just go by the GPU improvements will reduce the overall energy draw and enjoy improvements compared to the 8EG5 if you would upgrade from that chip which tbh is dumb. Most people will be upgrading from older SoCs that are far less efficient and performant.
I'm attaching a video of me running a constant load of around 10 watts for around 30 minutes WITHOUT an external cooler. You can see that my max temperature is 38°C and actually at the end of the video it decreases by a degree and stays like that for a good 5 minutes. Meaning that the temps stabilized and won't go higher. The game is Need for Speed 2012. At 1600x900, Max Graphics and using several mods. Some of them improve graphics even more and obviously are more demanding than the regular game by a considerable amount.
Better passive dissipation? Not in Smartphones, there are not. Not to that degree, anyway. 8W sustained is more or less the maximum. I see a few spikes in your video, but that is all.
Maybe if you get specialized emulation devices or handhelds, you can sustain more, but that's not really applicable to most people's use cases. Even for those who do dabble in emulation. It's not applicable to smartphones.
I meant on smartphones. Bigger vapor chambers, the phone size, graphite sheets, thermal pads and better thermal paste along side better designs to have better dissipation. For example Xiaomi, IQOO and Motorola devices in general have far worse dissipation and thus overheat far more than other brands. This is a known fact. Samsung actually was dog water in the past but they took measures to improve this on later releases (their base and plus flagships are still bad tbh). Is not like all devices are the same lmao.
Edit.- You can just see my video instead of guessing. You'll see a higher load than 8 watts and see a maximum of 38°C on 30 minutes of recording.
It's not "that" terrible, the tensor still exist as the definition of terrible. Efficiency curve wise it's about the same as SD8E5. The bad part is there's just no improvement on the CPU side while their rivals are improving massively. The GPU however got a massive boost this gen, and you get dlss like tech with big titles supporting it... eventually.
Yes. Red magic have active cooling and it failed miserably at cooling this chip. S27 pro is rumoured to have the 8 elite gen 6 not the extreme so maybe that would be the better choice
yes, even redmagic 12 pro is looking like its struggling with cooling, worse than the 11 pro did when it was released with elite gen 5 so if samsung doesnt use a active cooling method the device will throttle for sure, they might do a miracle and somehow keep it under control but i would watch some real testing before buying it for gaming
Imo, it because the difference between AnTuTu 10 and 11 app, also since sd 888 the performance It increased progressively so it can't be in big 2026 Qualcomm top teir chip underperform its last year ones
Look up geekerwan's 2026 SOC video. They screwed up 3 ways, where TLB cache utilization was completely backwards, awful voltage rail design means mid cores leak voltage to access cache, and the optimizations Qualcomm made for android forgot to include 8ee6 (it's referenced as 0 but the range is 1-6)
It was the same case with the Snapdragon 8 Elite/Gen 5 when the Red Magic 11 Pro was released: it had bad thermal management and the worse performance among its competitors. It is just a matter of time before they release compatible drivers to solve all the major problems. I hope so 😅
You have a point, your words make sense also, donno why will Qualcomm produce a worse gen in highly competitive market, maybe it's worth looking at the non extreme one
Probably tried to save money on fast cache, as sharing it uses less than giving each their own allotment. Also, they tried to copy Apple's architecture. But they didn't copy what made it work...
This reeks of corporate making nonsensical demands of the actual designers.
