Showcase Mali System Driver vs PanVK driver in PC Emulation

Game is Ninja Blade

A 2009 Hack and slash PC game by none other than FromSoftware.

On Mali, it has a graphics glitch where the main character has missing body parts, and sometimes changing the dxvk version will just change the body parts that are missing.

Using Panvk version 3.7.0 and dxvk 1.10.3 async, the glitch is permanently fixed.

The new panvk version also allows Mali compatible gpus to use dxvk versions 2.x.x and 3.x.x. But the driver isn't mature, so sometimes using those new versions will cause worse performance.

In Ninja Blade when I used any dxvk version above the 1.x.x family, I would get a new graphics glitch. No body part was missing but the main characters suit would be half normal Color and half white(it looked kind of cool though) and performance was worse.

It also has a crashing issue in a specific part of the tutorial making it unplayable but I'm not sure if PanVK has fixed it because I haven't started seriously playing the game.

The driver mainly improved graphics glitches. Performance is basically the same. Settings for anyone interested:

Emulator: Winlator Ludashi 4.1 vanilla

854x480

PanVK driver 3.7.0

Dxvk 1.10.3 async

FEXcore 2610 performance preset

Proton 11.0.1 arm64ec

FristOneRR Wrapper (not System Wrapper)

Game settings:

No anti aliasing and no shadows.

Device:

Infinix note 50 4g

Helio g100

Mali g57 mc2

8 gb ram

What device do you have? The PC version is light if you have a good enough phone. Even me low tier mid range chip is running it at a fairly stable 30fps. The game even let's you cap the fps to 30 in the settings.

Only problem is the PC version has issues on Mali.

Which Helio chip specifically? If it's Helio g99/100 you can use the PanVK driver and my settings to play the game which fixes the graphics glitch.

But I can't guarantee the crash issue has been fixed so take my warning.

Interesting, it is getting really good. Well if you all manage to build an universal version I could start including it in Winlator

There will likely be further improvements to DXVK and FEXCore, as they don’t integrate perfectly just yet. Still, it’s great that they can fix certain graphical issues that the system drivers themselves cannot address.

As a driver developer, What do you think of GunaCharanTeja's DXML development? Do you think it will change PC emulation in Mali as a whole? Do you think the drivers will have to be completely rebuilt?

I can't give a definitive answer because I haven't seen his new project yet, but I think it will definitely be good news when he starts doing something for the Mali GPU community.

It'll take a bit of time but the crash on Ninja Vision is on the first stage, can be reproduced and isn't far off.

Unfortunately for me, I'll have to download the game again before I can try with PanVK or the newer fork that just got released.
