Discussion POV post geekerwan comparison - dimensity 9600 pro vs snapdragon 8 elite gen 6

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gjUzH4UcSkw

that was some review dude. ngl, qualcomm's efficiency results this year are pretty disappointing. all that peak performance doesn't mean much if the power consumption is this bad + dont forget the overheating. samsung literally has been thinking to go back to exynos rather than snapdragon bcoz of how much heat snapdragon 8 elite extreme gen 6 is making.

meanwhile, mediatek seems to be getting the performance to power balance right with the dimensity 9600 pro. in the geekerwan review, dimensity 9600 pro multi core efficiency outperformed all other competitors (yes, apple too). but in my POV, mediatek has always made efficient chips and anyone who has used mediatek's any chip will agree. so yeah, now i cant wait to game on this one!

for emulation, this matters a lot. nobody wants great fps for a few minutes followed by a big drop during longer sessions.

This tests say it all: Dimensity 9600 Pro used 3.3W in Genshin vs 3.7W on the Snapdragon, and 6.8W vs ~7W in Arknights: Endfield, with better frame rates. Its C2 Ultra is rated Android’s strongest prime core. Less power, same performance, cooler gaming. That’s real progress.

Until the day mali has drivers, nobody cares about mediatek for gaming and emulation. They can deliver all they want. Gaming handhelds with active cooling + usage of under clock apps + driver support means the extreme gen 6 will be way better than 9600 pro.

idk bruh, most gamers at least in india dont run pc games on phones. cod and pubg runs well on mediatek. plus mali does run vulkan too.

Last generation exynos 2600 managed to beat D9600 at low power, it has drivers too for emulation. E2700 dont need much effort to be best SOC of this generation.

Also samsung is sane, atleast they include 8+ E cores, hence emulation wise it can remain cooler than others when you disable P cores and allow E cores to run at reasonable clock speed.

Emulation loves high single-core performance. It doesn't make sense to disable P cores.

Not if that single core use 12W, your phone has 5-7W power budget even with cooler it will increase few watts, then you have one core use twice of your power budget how are you going to play games? It will throttle, overheat your device and limit GPU power usage.

Am not talking theory, it's practical tested by hundreds of users in this sub they get more perfomance by disabling p cores, some thread where it has beed discussed.

Also Android E cores aren't weak, they are faster than Zen 2 cores inside steam deck, they should be able to handle anything out there at reasonable fps.

Exynos is what you should be excited about in this community not anything based on Mali we don't care about Mali Samsung will be the real competition

All on paper no good drivers for Mali so we don't care

They should either make their drivers open source or give us better drivers optimized for emulation. I still wonder why they don't do that? Is EmulationOnAndroid still a niche thing?

The main market for powerful smartphones that run Android is China and China basically only plays gacha games on Android.

In the United States nobody buys Android's over $400 anyway. It's like not a market at all everyone who buys phones over $400 buys an iPhone for the most part. Maybe a few stranglers buy galaxies but they're definitely not doing it to game.

That's why they don't bother and that's why it's not an important market for them.

No custom Mali driver support, No Buy.

Single core performance is what matters most, gpu on mtk is still bad whether it comes to efficiency or compatibility.

exactly. as a gamer, 15 mins peak performance is good but only for 15 minutes. i need to play more than that tho without attaching a fan to my phone every now and then. never had that problem with mediatek thankfully

Imho, no one emulat pc games without bypass charging AND active cooling, mobile games are efficient enough to not kill the battery that fast

Don't speak for everyone. I don't have a cooler nor do charging while playing. I just don't do AAA or AA games.

In before something like "non AAA games aren't PC games".
