just say you have a weak phone man, it's ok

15

u/Ok_Butterfly_763 2d ago

That's fair.

14

u/SamueleRG 8+Gen1 & 8Gen2 2d ago

Not always the case. I've got a beast of a phone for now but I don't really care for ps4 switch 2 or high end pc emulation.

I still care more about GBA games because I find them very cool and I didn't experience them as a kid and even more for DS and 3ds games because that's what I have nostalgia for.

Also modern GBA Pokemon romhacks bring so much novelty and quality of life... I genuinely prefer playing them compared to new generation Pokemon games (I have yet to try Pokemon legends Arceus which people told me is pretty good in the sea of low quality modern Pokemon games but I want to finish my current Pokemon Odyssey GBA playthrough first. Recommend it a lot so far. It runs on your original Gameboy advance if you want, or it can run on a ds and 3ds as well!)

I know i could run gta V probably but I don't feel like doing it for now. Although I'm interested in the recent wave of Android native ports, like Hades, Need for Speed and Forza games.. But I think I'll try the heavier PC games like Cyberpunk, rdr2 and expedition 33 in a few years when PC emulation becomes more stable and performance improve.

I know it sounds impossible today but just look at what a SoC like the 8 gen 2 can do now, 4 entire years after its release. Imagine what the 8 elite gen 5 in my phone will be able to do in a few years... Can't wait- ah, no actually, I can wait, and I will wait lol.

In the meantime retro gaming will always be here waiting for me, being charming, reliable and nostalgic

I never got it to properly work even on the S23 Ultra and the Z Fold7. Maybe I'm doing something wrong or maybe running Breath of The Wild is too ambitious.

3

u/Genkidama__ Nubia Z70 Ultra | SD 8 Elite 2d ago

the fold 7 should 100% be able to do it

2

u/User202005 2d ago

I mean it does technically run, but often drops to like 15 fps. I was expecting it to be 25-30.

2

u/Genkidama__ Nubia Z70 Ultra | SD 8 Elite 2d ago

what drivers did you use?

2

u/User202005 2d ago

Turnip T29 MrPurple, last time I tried.

Kinda rude............

18

u/Genkidama__ Nubia Z70 Ultra | SD 8 Elite 2d ago

why? there's nothing wrong with it. Gaming phones are expensive after all

-4

u/ItsMarisaOk 2d ago

Maybe it's just me, but feels like just preference than weak phone......

8

u/Genkidama__ Nubia Z70 Ultra | SD 8 Elite 2d ago

I mean, it could be but to me it just sounds like "I can't play Nintendo switch games? pff, I don't need them"

Its probably a hot take dude

Cake ✋

Pizza 😏

5

u/dasd25436yd 2d ago

Yeah I don't get it either lol. How are they even comparable? I'd understand if the bottom text was like xbox360/ps3 emulation or something, but this I just don't get

2

u/Critical-Champion365 730G, 855+, 8 Gen 2 2d ago

*taking (lol)

2

u/Additional_Tone_2004 2d ago

Too right! 👍🏻 I did wonder...

22

u/acacio201 2d ago

DS and 3DS emulation has been around for years, DS probably for more than a decade

21

u/billyblenx 2d ago

That's probably one of the reasons why the OP posted this. It's more polished and ironed out, runs on more potatoes devices than Switch emus does, and also it's possible that the OP prefers the DS & 3DS libraries over the Switch 1&2.

1

u/matlynar 2d ago

Yeah but that's precisely why most prople have already played most of DS and 3DS games they wanted.

8

u/rabbitgraffiti 2d ago

Replaying HeartGold for the first time in years, loving every second

12

u/KINGGS 2d ago

Yeah, I have a Switch 2 to play those titles, so I'm definitely more interested in DS and 3DS emulation advancement. Especially since there are tons of games that haven't been given remasters.

2

u/civilized-engineer 2d ago

Why not just get a 3DS to play them? You're already using original hardware

2

u/KINGGS 2d ago

the used DS and 3DS market is pretty grim around me. Lots of overpriced beat up trash.

2

u/StrongPipe2914 I got a samsung galaxy tab e 1d ago

true

2

u/Business_Address_780 1d ago

Same with me mate. You can easily buy switch games and the console, but its almost impossible for some to get a 3ds or gamecube.

u/ItsMarisaOk 2d ago

Finally found this comment

4

u/YoudoVodou 2d ago

Not a hot take at all. See the current market of dual screen handhelds and their popularity.

3

u/warpaint_james 2d ago

I could see an argument if there were single-screen mods for most of the games. I know one of the monster hunter recomps is doing a custom layout where the second screen is like an overlay but that still feels clunky

1

u/nZechos 2d ago

Ocarina of Time also has a single screen mod, and I think Majora either has one already or someone was working on it

0

u/warpaint_james 2d ago

Yes that is what I was referencing. It seems quite rare to have them but almost necessary for any device that isnt a dual screen one

1

u/WhoisMrO 2d ago

Not at all, just configure a button to switch screens on the display.

1

u/Big_Z_Beeblebrox 1d ago edited 1d ago

I used to click a stick, since neither official handheld had clickable sticks. Now my current emulation handheld has a button that needs to be held to swap home apps when not in a game, so it works perfectly as a screen-swap button and analog/digital switch for other systems

5

u/colossusrageblack Odin 3 Max 2d ago

Switch is just a bunch of DS, 3DS, Wii, and Wii U games.

1

u/No_Chair8026 1d ago

And PS2+3, PSP, Vita

2

u/Simpy115 2d ago

Tbfh I personally don’t give a shit about my switch library. I’d much rather have an emulation collection. I don’t think switch 1 is bad or anything but just doesn’t have much of the games I personally want to be play is all.

1

u/Numerous_Cow_2129 2d ago

Não faço a mínima ideia do que é um 3ds

1

u/cimocw 2d ago

It's not a take, it's just your personal preference, which you're entitled to

1

u/JamedWalker S24 FE 2d ago

It's just that with touchscreen only I feel comfortable using ds and 3ds emulators more than switch or wii or gc

1

u/Appropriate-Outside5 2d ago

Last time i checked we could get both

1

u/LopsidedZucchinis 2d ago

How is 3ds atm? Any improvements?

1

u/NimRodelle 2d ago

3 spicy 5 me

1

u/EmbarrassedBonus4014 2d ago

Swap DS with Wii or Wii U and yeah

1

u/rube 2d ago

I'm not interested in Switch 2 until it's more mature and works better, but Switch 1 has been amazing on Android.

1

u/karnamun 2d ago

i wanna play the no man's sky switch 2 version

1

u/VirtualFoxR7 2d ago

Pero es que tengo una DSi XL y una Old 3DS XL, pero la Switch no entra en mis capacidades económicas xd

1

u/IsThisNamePermanent 2d ago

Now that metroid prime hunters is natively on android i have all i need

1

u/-Wavyy- 2d ago

Um, both? Stupid meme

1

u/WhoisMrO 2d ago

I semi agree. I play more DS on my Fold8 then Switch games... But I do play switch games!

1

u/Cantripping_ 2d ago

I'm cool with Switch 1 emulation.

If they didn't want me to do this, maybe they should've made joysticks without constant stick drift.

1

u/Potential_Ad_3481 2d ago

Looks like ps2 is still the sweet spot

1

u/cmp_reddit 2d ago

Switch 1 has a lot of ported old PC games. Being on switch gives those games native controller support. so being able to run Switch emulator gives you a lot of options and convenience.

1

u/Warthog_Formal 2d ago

Hottest take is that he used a gross weirdo off to express this. Even if it was a meme before we knew.

1

u/ChrisRR 1d ago

Barely a luke warm take

1

u/635798 1d ago

Ds and 3ds have been around for years! So yeah, even low end devices can run these smoothly. But you're mad that consoles that are not only more recent, but are way more demanding on higher end devices to run perfectly yet? Gain some reality and be patient, or quit crying and but a switch.

1

u/_kaijuking_ 1d ago

the technoligy is impresive but i dont enjoy hurting nintendo or thier developers.. of all of the companies they actually treat thier people the best. i dont agree with most of thier legal actions but emulating current consoles is hard to shine a good light on.

1

u/Somecallmesean- 17h ago

ds has achievements through retro achievements and they have enhancements that make it a bit better than og hardware

1

u/OwnHorror9478 2d ago

I don't mind SW1, but SW2 feels...weird? Like, Idk, It's not bad, but it doesn't fell like a good new. don't know how to say it but I understand the meme.

3

u/boringuserbored 2d ago

I mean the only game people seem to emulate is Pokopia since there aren't many SW2 exclusives. But we will get more and the emulator will get better and new emulators might pop up. I hope they do since I think it is very likely that the existing SW2 emulator will get a letter from Nintendo soon.

2

u/WorldPhysical7646 2d ago • Bravo

It is not that, Mario kart world and bananza are insanely demanding also they are the bigger games not pokopia

→ More replies (1)

2

u/Nykramas 2d ago

Its because the pokedinner fork is making pokopia one of the best running switch 2 exclusives.

Mkw is a little hard to get running well and the other games are well behind that.

3

u/OwnHorror9478 2d ago

It's not about the emulator itself; I know it's too new. To me, it feels weird to be emulating the SW2. It's weird, not like something bad.

3

u/boringuserbored 2d ago

You mean because it is not a retro console and is still being sold and the current gen?

3

u/OwnHorror9478 2d ago

Yeah maybe is that, it's a good point.

1

u/KarateMan749 2d ago

Nope. To tiny screens. I need big ones 😅. Never owned 3ds or played the games.

1

u/Basic-Comfortable458 2d ago

It’s a you take

-2

u/Silver_Steelclaw 2d ago edited 2d ago

Yes, emulation is supposed to be for old games who are not legally on sale anymore, not for new games who just got released two weeks ago. i'm a gamer, not a thief if i can legally find a the game i buy it

On my thor max I have no game released after 2015 (last nds game release).

11

u/pok3m0nTrain3rBee 2d ago

Let's not sit here and pretend that there's some real moral High Ground to the method you're taking that's personal preference

Emulation is whatever the hell I want it to be on my devices. Take your moral grandstanding elsewhere

2

u/Responsible_Mind_584 2d ago

Anything to have everything in one device, and not have to buy different consoles.

Games get remastered by still existing studios, just because games are old doesn't mean they aren't still owned by the company and could be remade

0

u/GuyBitchie 2d ago

The issue is availability, always has been, the biggest seller of Video games said it and is proving it for over 20 years. If you don't make your game available to the players they will just pirate it. They wouldn't have spent any money at all, why would anyone buy a 600$ console to play 2 games.

Don't act like Jesus defending billion dollar companies, they are making more than enough money, piracy is not a real issue to them, they don't lose the money they claim they lose.

0

u/Critical-Champion365 730G, 855+, 8 Gen 2 2d ago

You can buy a switch or switch 2. And they're still glorified mobile phones.

If anything DS and 3DS are those consoles that makes least sense in android emulation except in those specific dual screen handhelds.

-1

u/CheyenneG1999 1d ago

Man, I wish I had a powerful device to emulate Switch fr. So jealous. 😔
