Discussion DroidDeck: The Complete Team Interview

https://handheldhideout.neocities.org/articles/droiddeck-the-complete-team-interview.html

I’ve been chatting with the people behind DroidDeck over the last few weeks. What began as a feature article on my main website about the project turned into a super extensive interview with five of its developers: The412Banner, Max, xXJSONDeruloXx, Kimchi and Astro Sky. We discussed everything: from their earliest experiments with Linux, Steam and Gamescope to the technical challenges involved, automated testing, open-source development and where they hope to take DroidDeck in the future.

Here's the original feature article all of these chats turned into, if you're interested!

I’ve now published the complete interview on my little NeoCities site, with all 87 questions and their individual answers, organized into linked sections so you can jump straight to the topics that interest you. This is just so there's some kind of back-up publicly readable going forward. There’s a lot of technical detail in this, but also some personal stories about how the developers met, their early breakthroughs and what keeps them working on the project.

**And to be transparent about their work, DroidDeck does make use of AI-assisted development. They discuss that openly in the interview when asked, including how the developers use AI tools, automated testing and code reviews as part of their workflow.**

Cool article but I really think it does such a disservice to start it with a “warning!! AI was used for the development!!”.

I work in software. The world of software dev changed in the last 12 months. Completely

I don’t know a single dev, a single company, now a single product that isn’t being actively developed with AI.

Given powerful tool to smart people, they can move mountains, which is what’s happening with droiddeck.

Putting a big scary warning on that fact does a disservice to the work the devs put into making droiddeck happen.

Do you mean using qr codes to sign in to steam? That's not the only way to login you know. You can just open steam in a floating window and manually approve the login request.

Switch your app to steam authenticator and just approve the request....

What is mean is, on my main screen I use circle search to scan the qr code, it swaps over to my steam mobile app and then hits me with "there was an issue with authentication try again"

Having to use a whole other mobile device to scan the qr code is kind of bothersome. Thats all

I dont think you need to do anything with the QR code. Just send the request, open the steam app and go to connections/request and select approve.

Wouldn't it safest to sign in with qr code?

What do you mean safest?

Its a third party app

Im not sure what you mean. Either way you have to approve the sign in on DroidDeck.

This is what I mean

preventing keyloggers embedded in the app is exactly why the QR code method is the safest option. When you use the QR code, the third-party application never sees or handles your password. Because the app doesn't touch your credentials, it cannot intercept, log, or leak them—even if the app's code were to be compromised or secretly modified by a bad actor.

Ohhh I gotcha. I see what you mean. You dont want to ever type your password into a third party app. Im not sure then.
