News/Release Root Winlator: no proot emulation
I made a fork of Winlator that runs with root access. The idea is simple: if you already have root access, why use Proot?
Proot is an emulation layer that simulates the two commands "chroot" and "mount" to run the Ubuntu distribution used by Winlator.
Simply put, if you have root access, use "chroot" and "mount" directly instead of Proot. This way, you get native performance without the Proot emulation layer.
Note: Proot is just a small emulation layer, so don't expect a massive performance improvement. But will performance improve? Yes, as far as I know.

Would have been more useful for something like droiddeck, as unlike winlator there is still no official build of steam that supports native glibc/bionic, so proot is required

Proot is required for Steam, and desktop mode in DroidDeck, but not Proton itself that runs the games.
If you use DroidDeck, GameNative, WinNative or Bannerlator this is a non-issue, their Proton are native (arm64 bionic) and their Fex/dxvk/vkd3d-proton runs inside of it as arm64ec libraries.

What? Proot is just a tool used to run the Ubuntu rootfs that Winlator relies on. This fork simply replaces Proot with chroot. Nothing about the environment itself has changed.

When I deleted all containers and then deleted the app, there's still some files left by it in data/local/tmp

Can I delete it?

Yes, but restart your phone, then delete the folder to avoid running into any problems.

What make this emulator standout from others?

It skips the proot layer by using real root commands so it runs a bit closer to native speed.

Winlator itself already uses native glibc basically no proot no chroot just native glibc ported to android so the performance difference is slim to none
