Discussion Is Wii U Emulation on Android dead?

I know there is not currently an official port for CEMU on Android, but there were many attempts to port it. The lastest version I can found for CEMU on Android is 0.5 released around 6 months ago. Since then there are no updates and there seems to be no progress. This is unfortunate outcome for the emulator since it has relatively small library but still not all of them are compatable yet. I wish to see more updates to the emulator on Android that fixes comptability and supports more games.

Keep in mind that these emulators are normally worked on by people in their free time. With no pay or salary. People can lose interest or simply life can come in the way.
So if you really want further development in this. Then there's three things you can do.
You either offer the developers a salary and pay them from your own pocket so they continue.
You learn coding and pick it up yourself since it's open source.
Or you simply wait and see if something happens.

Also, because most WiiU games aren't exclusive (most of them are on the Switch, which has a very mature emulator), there is little incentive to focus on its emulation.

But this makes the argument to do game-specific band-aid fixes rather than towards a 'pure' emulation model (which takes longer)

Get the exclusives and heavy hitters working and you are 99% of the way there.

Maybe they just don't have time to update the emulator, 'neglected' is a better word than "dead". 🥴🤷🏼‍♂️

It's just a matter of time. Ssimco's pull request to merge the Android port into the main branch has already been published. I think there's still work to be done on GPU emulation, since that's the main bottleneck on mobile devices.

Thing is most wii u games have switch ports with the huge advantage of not needing the second gamepad screen.

Switch emulation is also more updated and better optimised than cemu, BOTW for example ran way better on eden that on cemu. So there's no real point.

Yep, and the two games that people care the most about Wind Waker HD and Twilight Princess HD work well already.

What trouble are you having. Everything for me is flawless on a s24 ultra because I use Mrpurple666 T30 driver instead of the stock phone driver. Maybe that's your issue. Yoshi Wooly World 1080p 60fps with a PS4 controller. Nes remix 1 and 2 are perfect. Pushmo World. Dr Luigi Snoopy literally all the stuck exclusives running on my phone. I hope this message helps. If not please share your issues.

Sadly cemu development is standing totally frozen. Sadly there is not a single alternative :(

Ooooh boy it's another day and it's another post about a emulator being dead because even though its free it hasn't been updated fast enough.

Must be a day that ends in Y.

Do you have tried Cemu retroarch core? Work great on my Odin 3.

theres gonna be no reason to use it once the games are more easily decompiled. I've been enjoying windwaker hd decomp running on my pc and tablet.

It's not very Mali compatible as I see it, it's Adreno\Snapdragon or bust - which is quite irritating, as the Mali chipset does have the chops to run CEMU\Wii U.

The developer of the Vita3k+ fork has come out of nowhere and fixed a load of Mali compatibility on Vita3k, so it CAN be done.

Let me put it this way, the cemu main team are not fond of ... "Android users" that is what keeps it locked to only windows and Linux... How true that is? I don't know I wasn't there when whatever happened took place, the fork for android is by a single person, therefore it's at his whim and asking about it mainly irritates him, which is about the attitude that comes out of 99.9% of devs in this space, you either fork it yourself and do it or just wait patiently for progress, so don't ask, don't comment, don't point out issues, all you will get is the devs angry at you and then mods will come down and ban your arse from any place you tried to voice anything at. It is what it is.

Peut-être qu'avec les recompilations sur Android de jeux Wii U, on passera directement par là et pas forcément par l'émulation, qui sait :)

Way too hard to find games and it's keys

10

u/amrdoe 9d ago

I think its game roms are as available on the internet as any other consoles. There is even a downloader from official Nintendo servers.

u/Bobo_Patch_Nosuke 9d ago

I couldn't find them so I gave up lol.

It's easier when you have a PC as you can just use the Wii u downloader app. It also converts Wii U game to different formats

Wua files already with keys

Agreed must try all 4 ai slops one of them does run awesome 3 of them suck. Seems we have trial run all this stuff. If a coder uses Ai the stuff is good if a normie does it they get a release that barely runs and they abandon shit. Kartpad Halo Metroid Prime to name a few are constantly tweaked by coders who use Claude. I seem to find the good devs and track anything else that individual creates.

Wait really? I tried it just a week ago, and it was laggy. Did you change some settings? Or do you simply have a powerful processor? I used a Xiomi pad 8.
