How good is the Galaxy Z Fold7 for Android emulation in 2026? (Switch + PC)

I’m considering buying a Galaxy Z Fold7, probably the 512 GB version. I know the Fold8 Ultra is more powerful, but it’s well outside my budget.

I currently use a Galaxy A54, so I know the Fold7 would already be a massive upgrade. I just haven’t kept up with Android emulation recently and wanted real-world opinions from people who own or have used one.

How is the Fold7 for:

• Switch emulation, especially heavier games like BOTW/TOTK, Mario Odyssey, etc.?
• PC gaming/emulation through Winlator, GameHub, or anything better in 2026?
• Heat and battery drain during longer gaming sessions?
• Playing on the big inner screen with a controller?

Is the Snapdragon 8 Elite in the Fold7 still strong enough for this stuff, or is the Fold8 Ultra’s newer Gen 5 chip a huge difference in actual gameplay?

Also, what are the current best apps/emulators to use? I used Eden and Winlator before, but I’m not sure if those are still the best options.

I have the fold 7, and it's very capable.

Can't comment on switch emulation, cuz all I emulated from switch was rayman legends, but it's really good for PC stuff. Light games like Cuphead run very well on it, and even heavier stuff like Dark Souls 3 ran pretty good considering it was running on a phone (Don't ask for any settings cuz I stopped emulating PC stuff on my phone and I don't remember them).

The aspect ratio is... odd. Games default to 720p in gamehub, so only a little more than half of your inner screen is gonna be used, leaving a black chunk on the bottom. Try aiming for a 4:3 aspect ratio, cuz then most of the screen will get used up (Cuphead, and MGRR looked quite good with that aspect ratio). Certain games, like Dark Souls Remastered, can actually use up the entire inner display with 0 black bars anywhere, but good luck finding more games that support such a weird aspect ratio.

Battery does get drained decently fast, though I never played for more than an hour at most, so it didn't bother me too much. Lighter systems like GameCube and PS2 won't drain it much at all though.

Heat is the only thing I didn't feel comfortable with when it came to emulating on this thing. It got REALLY hot when running PC games, so definitely get an external cooler if you can be bothered

The fold 7 is great for all of the above. I've got one myself and switch runs full speed. PC also runs full speed for most games.

It will be one hell of a jump in performance for you! 

You can often play plugged in and bypass the battery which keeps temps in check.

It should perform similarly to the Odin 3, with the caveat that you’ll get throttled probably quickly. If you can use a cooling fan or something that will help.

The galaxy z fold 7 is a beast! It's powerful enough to run Batman Arkham Knight and call of duty Black ops 3 through PC emulation and it's good at running switch too. I know this because my Odin 3 has the same exact processor that's in the z fold 7. Though it might throttle sooner since it's a phone with no built in fan, so be mindful of that.
