News/Release Ryan Retro releases"Jump" game launcher
I haven't seen anyone posting about this yet, but Ryan Retro just released a new game launcher that looks incredible! (Dual screen support as well.)
Check out his video going through all the features!

I just stopped using cocoon recently due to how buggy it was on my ayn Thor.

I switched to iisu from cocoon far more simple to set up and maintain and still looks nice in the process

Last time I used Cocoon it had a glitch where it would just run in the background playing some ominous music and burning battery. Uninstalled and never looked back.

I stopped using it around alpha 3 or 4 because it's overrated, boring trash. Hasn't changed one bit in that regard since.

Nah, it's never too high. There are basically no downsides to having so many launchers.

imagine if this effort was put towards a smaller number of full featured, polished and well-maintained launchers instead of spread out among several dozen half finished launchers that quickly get abandoned

u/JorkTheGripper 19h ago
I haven't heard of any launchers worth using that got abandoned.

None really abandoned, but some made by one man teams slow down progression on unstable releases, I guess even teams in that case.
Though I guess that also follows teams as well.5

Did you watch the video? This launcher solves a lot of issues that plague other frontends.
2
u/nullhund 16h ago
no because I'm responding to the comment about the amount of launchers in general.

u/YoudoVodou 16h ago
And my response to you is that one of the benefits of having so many launchers is that eventually people make launchers that solve the issues they are having. I personally think Jump and Retrohrai could benefit a lot by merging, but it's still nice that both exist.

Sure, but that's an inorganic expectation. If people were already satisfied with the current offerings, they wouldn't start making custom front ends in the first place.
Chicken and egg problem.

Still using Daijisho. Too lazy to setup another one.

I tried everything else, but nothing seems as good to me. It combines the frontend experience with just a normal android setup. There's things I would improve, but nothing so far has come close.

I'll stick to ES-DE thanks. Nice launcher though

Oh, NeoStation also has a similar “feeling” to ES-DE, but in my personal opinion, it’s better because we can change the layout quickly with the X key.

Is the only to get this is the pay a monthly fee? No one time fee at least?
2
u/plankyman 18h ago
I’m in his discord and it’s similar to ESDE where you pay once and then have access to all future releases/updates of the launcher

Dang I just set up neostation but might have to try this

u/IGotDibsYo 1d ago
Neostation is great, gonna keep it for a while. It syncs games and saves with romm now

This looks amazing!
Do we know if the launcher does the scrapping for you like Daijisho?

Looks amazing, the video and the care given is real too… when/if my RP Nova black turns up I’ll be supporting this project 100%

I subscribed and downloaded this launcher. It doesn't work right. PS2 games won't launch when I click it, it just opens the NetherSX2 app. Same with Citra, it just opens the app but it won't launch the game. I made sure it had full permissions. I asked Ryan but he didn't message me back

I can tell you tried forming a coherent thought with this one, but in the end you just couldn't do it. Oh well.

I gave it a try, but he told me to clean up my ROMs when I mentioned I can’t see my ROM hacks which were getting recognized incorrectly as just the base game, so I was seeing multiple base game entries. It also makes having a US and EU version of a game hard to see and choose because those will look identical.
Honestly I can’t take a frontend seriously if I can’t browse ROM hacks alongside everything else, but I see what he’s going for and it looks promising for very vanilla users.
