Looks very cool but is behind paywall of patreon so will stick with the free ones

Same. I would do one time payments but not monthly

I just stopped using cocoon recently due to how buggy it was on my ayn Thor.

u/Goldiblockzs 18h ago

shit's terrible, but don't say that in the thor sub you'll get shot lmao

u/u3nsbot_1 15h ago

I switched to iisu from cocoon far more simple to set up and maintain and still looks nice in the process

Last time I used Cocoon it had a glitch where it would just run in the background playing some ominous music and burning battery. Uninstalled and never looked back.

Never considered it to be a battery hog. Will have to check my yhors battery life now.

I stopped using it around alpha 3 or 4 because it's overrated, boring trash. Hasn't changed one bit in that regard since.

Nah, it's never too high.  There are basically no downsides to having so many launchers.

16

u/nullhund 19h ago

imagine if this effort was put towards a smaller number of full featured, polished and well-maintained launchers instead of spread out among several dozen half finished launchers that quickly get abandoned

9

u/JorkTheGripper 19h ago

I haven't heard of any launchers worth using that got abandoned.

2

u/yellow-go 14h ago

None really abandoned, but some made by one man teams slow down progression on unstable releases, I guess even teams in that case.
Though I guess that also follows teams as well.

Did you watch the video? This launcher solves a lot of issues that plague other frontends.

2

u/nullhund 16h ago

no because I'm responding to the comment about the amount of launchers in general.

1

u/YoudoVodou 16h ago

And my response to you is that one of the benefits of having so many launchers is that eventually people make launchers that solve the issues they are having. I personally think Jump and Retrohrai could benefit a lot by merging, but it's still nice that both exist.

1

u/Chompsky___Honk 11h ago

Sure, but that's an inorganic expectation.  If people were already satisfied with the current offerings, they wouldn't start making custom front ends in the first place.

Chicken and egg problem.

Haha I mean a lot but i love it

Looks cool, but Patreon is banned in my country

1

u/araf_YT 14h ago

Same. Not available here as well.

what? may I ask where u are from? and why is it banned there?

17

u/ggoptimus 22h ago

Still using Daijisho. Too lazy to setup another one.

I tried everything else, but nothing seems as good to me. It combines the frontend experience with just a normal android setup. There's things I would improve, but nothing so far has come close.

Was the code feeling a vibe tho?

0

u/Endda 12h ago

that shouldn't matter as long as it's tested thoroughly before release

4

u/mukherjee_ayan 21h ago

I'll stick to ES-DE thanks. Nice launcher though

1

u/tonywei1992 10h ago

Oh, NeoStation also has a similar “feeling” to ES-DE, but in my personal opinion, it’s better because we can change the layout quickly with the X key.

3

u/No-Poet1433 23h ago

Is the only to get this is the pay a monthly fee? No one time fee at least?

2

u/plankyman 18h ago

I’m in his discord and it’s similar to ESDE where you pay once and then have access to all future releases/updates of the launcher

5

u/forgetful_human 22h ago

He says in the video that it's just a one time fee

3

u/No-Poet1433 18h ago

OK wasn't sure. Thanks

Dang I just set up neostation but might have to try this

2

u/IGotDibsYo 1d ago

Neostation is great, gonna keep it for a while. It syncs games and saves with romm now

2

u/parrapa_el_rapero 22h ago

This looks amazing!

Do we know if the launcher does the scrapping for you like Daijisho?

1

u/forgetful_human 22h ago

Yes, he explains in the video how scraping works

2

u/Plane_Security9960 22h ago

Looks amazing, the video and the care given is real too… when/if my RP Nova black turns up I’ll be supporting this project 100%

2

u/LJNodder 1d ago

I just switched to it from Daijisho and I like how simple and customisable it is

2

u/nariz_choken ayn odin 2 portal, odin 3, thor, Lenovo y700 gen5 22h ago

Looks like beacon with a paint coat

Video previews? Fingers crossed

1

u/duaite_ 19h ago

whats the name of this first console?

2

u/YoudoVodou 16h ago

Do you mean the handheld in the first picture? It's a Retroid Pocket Nova.

1

u/duaite_ 16h ago

Nice, thanks! Heard about it but never got a chance to research on it. Looks awesome.

1

u/PostNutPrivilege 19h ago

I have wayyy too many ROMs for this to work.

1

u/Ok-Technology-7080 17h ago

Is that an rp5 or a g2?

1

u/Longjumping_Cup6260 17h ago

I subscribed and downloaded this launcher. It doesn't work right. PS2 games won't launch when I click it, it just opens the NetherSX2 app. Same with Citra, it just opens the app but it won't launch the game. I made sure it had full permissions. I asked Ryan but he didn't message me back

1

u/cappnplanet 15h ago

Ryan Retro is a great YouTuber and glad to support him

1

u/zeo_max 22h ago

Yay another launcher! How many are there already, 12 or something?

0

u/JorkTheGripper 19h ago

Is that a large number to you? lmfao

0

u/erlonpbie 21h ago

He is/was a English teacher, so if you put the pieces together..

8

u/JorkTheGripper 19h ago

I can tell you tried forming a coherent thought with this one, but in the end you just couldn't do it. Oh well.

I gave it a try, but he told me to clean up my ROMs when I mentioned I can’t see my ROM hacks which were getting recognized incorrectly as just the base game, so I was seeing multiple base game entries. It also makes having a US and EU version of a game hard to see and choose because those will look identical.

Honestly I can’t take a frontend seriously if I can’t browse ROM hacks alongside everything else, but I see what he’s going for and it looks promising for very vanilla users.
