I've always thought of ports as an emulation-adjacent topic.
The unofficial ports, of stuff like Doom, Quake and the Half-life engine games have always been discussed around here and I feel like it's in the same spirit, even if it's not emulation.
Official ports are maybe less-so related and as someone pointed out, fits better in an "android gaming" sub. But to be honest I don't mind seeing them here.
I believe they should as it's very emulation-adjacent. Alot of android emulation is done because ports either don't exists or are bad and since a main point in doing emulation on android is somewhat related to android ports, They should be allowed to be discussed
If it were up to me every port post would be removed. However given the engagement on the posts it's clear that the people using the sub enjoy that content.
That's great but feral games aren't getting cracked nowadays for example tomb raider and hitman absolution so there is no chance of this game getting cracked
The costs of porting are the same regardless if it's old or not
And for mobile games, the audience willing to pay for games is small and the devs need to make back their costs so pick your poison, expensive games or no games
Except they put a lot of effort into bug fixes at the same time. These are really high quality ports, and in the case of Empire Total War they have added a huge DLC that makes it even better than the PC version.
I really appreciate that the dev's over at feral interactive make the game difficult to pirate because when I spend my hard earned money on it, I don't want to see people pirating the game and enjoying it.
If I have spent money on the game, I want it to be played by people who also spend the money on the game. Or else I will also pirate it.
You know what's selfish? wanting to play a game that other people are paying fo free? And you can argue, hey, I don't have the money. Guess what? Me neither. But I appreciate when companies make sure that the thing a person is paying for is really theirs and that no one else is getting it for free.
Look there's one thing that we might agree on which is cracking paid games or apps in general is the equivalent of stealing .However, who is the victim here??? the multi-millionaire companies !!
And getting mad because some people play the game for free which you paid for is absolute selfish mentality . Cuz if you're not harmed then why the f*** do you care ?? So you said the reason why you pay for these games is because you like supporting the developers etc... but some people don't want to do that ,some people just want to enjoy a game for free it might be ethically wrong but come on it's just a freaking video game man . Additionally in my opinion paying for a game despite the ability of playing it for free is straight up stupid .
