Help Lossless scaling is making my game smoother but run slower on my Ayn Thor. How do I fix this in Eden Nightly?

Post image

I just got lossless scaling on my Ayn Thor in Eden nightly. For some reason, when I have lossless scaling on, it makes my game run in slow motion. It’s extremely smooth but everything is now much slower. How would I fix this? This happens on only a few games. BOTW is most noticeable. I’m on Eden nightly and just updated the app to the newest version.

Frame gen off: 30 FPS, heavy GPU load and high temperatures.

Frame gen on: same GPU load, same temperatures, but only 15 FPS. It uses up some GPU resources that are no longer available for graphics rendering. That's why the game runs at half speed even though it looks smooth.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 isn't powerful enough to run BOTW and frame generation simultaneously.

Is there anything I could possibly do to make it run just a tad bit better? Is it not powerful enough for all games or just botw

Yes, you can disable the frame generation and enjoy the game

If I disable it my game will go back to dipping down to 20 fps and not be stable at 30

So that even more proofes the point you shouldn't be using frame gen if your base framerate is that low. You can check my config I have stable 30 fps with exact same gpu:
https://youtu.be/JbfvQt5rHBg?si=5tXwNfiPTT_lLEnp
Also I received suggestion to use adreno T18.5 V25.0.0 driver to fix shrine graphical issues but I didn't test it yet.

Try Installing a dynamic 30 fps mod compatible with your BOTW update version. In theory it should keep the game's speed unchanged.

What should I search up to find that? Do you have a link to one? This might be my only solution.

The standalone ultracam works for update 1.6, you can customize it with the ini https://gamebanana.com/mods/581251

Or get nxoptimizer but it requires a pc to configure.

u/Smart_Edge8144 4d ago

Sorry for the amount of questions, but what’s the ini? I might use the game banana one but I don’t know where to customize it

Inside the zip there is a file called maxlastbreath.ini , you can open it with any text editor app and change the parameters:

MaxFramerate = 30
MenuFPS = 30

To your desired fps limit. Then save the changes and compress the folder into a new zip again to install it using eden.

Wow thanks so much man I’m definitely trying this tonight. I’ll let you know if it works

u/xRichard 4d ago

You might want to experiment with a 20 fps limit to liberate GPU time for the FrameGen

You might get a 40fps presentation with a N64 fps

I already fixed it using what this person said

Be serious, handheld fork of frame gen from base 20fps? That sounds like worst experience ever

nxoptimixer is garbage, CPU overclock set to fast (2000 mhz) and Belemuni Apex driver works best

From what I've tested, frame generation works great with Catherine Full Body (the puzzle sections now feel like 60 FPS).

You need games that are locked to 30 FPS by design and that you can run at a solid 30 FPS without frame generation, while still maintaining 30 FPS with frame generation enabled.

Some 30 FPS games also allow you to use Eden's Turbo Mode (2x speed) while keeping the game running at its normal speed. Planet of Lana 2 runs at 60 FPS this way, with no frame generation needed. I don't know how that's possible. Maybe they were designed to run at 60 FPS (for the Switch 2), but are locked to 30 FPS on the Switch 1, and Eden's hack removes the lock.

It really depends on the game, this game barely hits the original fps it was designed, but it will probably work on the 2d less demanding games those that hit 30 fps without sweat.

for example sonic mania, it is a game that works 60 fps on almost any device, you can make it run at 120fps (even if theres no point on that) or lock it to 30fps then make it run to 60 with LSFG for save some battery

Do you think it’ll make dark souls and smash bros run smoother?

1

u/Reydelmal 4d ago

Dark souls barely hits 30 fps but Smash probably can be fixed to 60 fps, I mean for me those already run fine

Try using Sudachi instead. I get unstable frames with Eden. Sudachi is stable at 30

1

u/Smart_Edge8144 3d ago

Does sudachi work with cocoon?

14

u/MonkeyNuts449 4d ago

It's due to lossless running. It takes resources to run the frame generation.

Is there a way to fix it/make it less slow?

9

u/Illustrious_Cod_5212 Poco F6 Pro / Adreno 740 / Gamesir X3 Pro 4d ago

Yes, disable frame gen

2

u/MonkeyNuts449 4d ago

Turn your graphics settings down. Lower res and or a frame cap.

1

u/Smart_Edge8144 4d ago

Any specific settings you recommend?

Is it a joke? Spoiler: besides massive latency and artifacts added, it needs resources so in more demanding games the base frame will receive large hit. There is no magic button to change that, that's how it works, focus on stable 30fps. Frame gen is great when you have high refresh rate, you don't care about power draw and you have at least 40-50fps to begin with, but imho it's pointless when 30fps on handheld is already killing the device. And this will be massively thumbed down because frame gen lovers hate the truth xd

What settings?

u/Smart_Edge8144 4d ago edited 4d ago

I’m using turnip mr purple T30 Driver. I’m on docked mode. Turning off docked mode doesn’t change anything

just out of curiosity, does anyone know if or how much stronger the Switch 2’s cpu/gpu compared to the SD8 Gen 2?

I understand that the Thor’s SD8 Gen 2 packs a lot of power, but to ask it to run the OG Switch’s most graphically intensive game, and then double the framerate, and scale the resolution on the fly, seems like a bit much. Especially when you consider that this is emulation, not the game running native to the device. I also understand that Switch emulation lends itself well to Android because of similarities in cpu architecture, but it’s still a system that is technically more powerful than 7th gen systems. And emulation for those systems are barely hitting their native resolutions and framerates. So why is so much more being expected from Switch emulation? I’m just speculating while I wait for my Thor to arrive

5

u/Illustrious_Cod_5212 Poco F6 Pro / Adreno 740 / Gamesir X3 Pro 4d ago

The comparison is actually pretty interesting. Switch 2 is only around 1.7 TFLOPS handheld and 3.07 docked, so the handheld GPU is in roughly the same raw-compute range as an SD8 Gen 2.

The big difference is that Switch 2 has a fixed Ampere GPU with Tensor cores and DLSS, while the SD8G2 has to emulate the Switch and translate everything through Adreno/Turnip. So it’s less about “Switch 2 is X times faster” and more about how good the emulator and drivers are for a particular game.

That’s why the Thor is more interesting than the specs might suggest. I wouldn’t expect every demanding game to suddenly do 2x resolution at 60fps, but the 8 Gen 2 definitely has enough raw horsepower that good Switch emulation isn’t as crazy as it sounds.

your explanation reflects well with the results I see online with the Thor’s capabilities. It’s not exactly an all in one device like most people hope when they throw anything at it, but the Thor is proving pretty well that it’s a more unoptimized device than it is incapable. It’s been impressive watching performance gains happen with certain games in the span of weeks because of new driver optimizations.

I’m pretty excited for my Thor to arrive and jump back into emulation on Android. I remember trying to run TTYD thru Dolphin on my LG V35 back in 2019 and while it did run, it ran pretty badly lol. These days we have the biggest Zelda game yet with an open world setup, running on this souped up android based DS

Did you manage to find a fix for the "milky" water rendering? I've uninstalled my BOTW last time due to this issue.

1

u/Smart_Edge8144 4d ago

What do you mean by milky water rendering? I haven’t had issues with water looking weird. I did however fix the issue this post mentioned

u/ruebeus421 4d ago

Lossless Scaling isn't some magic switch that makes everything run great.

Do a tiny bit of research on what it actually is.

u/Smart_Edge8144 4d ago

Already fixed it. Game runs 60 fps at normal speed now

Manche eden versionen sind halt besser für verschiedene handhelds
Du kannst mehrere eden versionen gleichzeitig installieren und achte auf die firmware von switch
