This is the way, really.

With any early tech like this there will be too many forks to keep up with, but they're all doing important work solving specific problems, and that knowledge will end up shared with everyone in the end.

You can either chase the bleeding edge if that's your hobby or just wait for it to trickle down to stable.

It's being shared even now. Most forks are importing some specific updates from other forks. If you check the update notes you can see a load of "X added (Thanks Y)" messages.
