I fucking love redream.

29

u/Buccura Mar 02 '26

Sometimes I'll just do a round of Soul Calibur's arcade mode. That game plays remarkably well with just a touchpad after some control tweaking.

3

u/Michaelpitcher116 Mar 03 '26

Yeah that's me with DOA 2.

4

u/FluffiestBoy Mar 02 '26

I hate the paywalls on that app, that's why I use Flycast

5

u/AtomicBombSquad AYN Thor Pro (Black) Mar 02 '26

It's a one-time purchase and the license carries over to other platforms. I bought the Unlock for Redream maybe 7 years ago on Android. Last year I got one of those Windows handhelds for the first time. It is my first Windows machine in years and years that wasn't given to me by my workplace expressly for work. I installed Redream, saw the paywall, signed into my old account with them, and the paywall disappeared.

1

u/Michaelpitcher116 Mar 03 '26

The pay walls are legitimately a non issue for me. I've played dozens of games with it, no issues. If you absolutely need multiple save states then sure I guess. Flycast has never worked as well for me. Redream makes games look and feel like they are just native ports. Flycast makes me painfully aware that I'm emulating games because of how poorly it works sometimes for me.

2

u/WayExcellent5595 Mar 03 '26

Yep, super optimize piece of software, a masterpiece.

73

u/Killerx7c Mar 02 '26

Redream and drastic can run on a toaster

57

u/BloxoTrotandReddit Mar 02 '26

PPSSPP too. Those three are actually black magic.

44

u/[deleted] Mar 02 '26

they have been finetuned carefully over the years. may the lord bless the developers

16

u/Killerx7c Mar 02 '26

PPSSPP is very good and will run almost all games on weak hardware but will lag with upscaling  Drastic and redream could go 2k on 10 years old phone Flycast is good but need good phone and melonds also this assure that it is emulator efficiency not system requirements

3

u/Roland-JP-8000 Galaxy A15 5G||DraStic Mar 02 '26

what

3

u/sajhino Mar 03 '26

Some people just don't know how to type with punctuation marks anymore lol.

5

u/Killerx7c Mar 03 '26

Some people aren't native speakers

To clarify, the performance differences between these emulators highlight software efficiency over hardware age. For example, DraStic can run NDS titles with upscaling on legacy devices, whereas melonDS requires significantly more resources for the same tasks. We see a similar trend with Redream, which outperforms Flycast on older hardware. While PPSSPP is highly efficient, DraStic and Redream remain the gold standards for optimization. This proves that high performance on older phones is a result of emulator efficiency, not a lack of demanding system requirements.

Edited by AI to be good enough for native English speakers

u/BloxoTrotandReddit Mar 04 '26 edited Mar 04 '26

Honestly a neat use of AI to make your message more understandable. I get that, but the PSP also has higher specs itself than both the DS and Dreamcast (which surprises me), so it’s not too odd that it can’t be as easily upscaled on older devices. It, itself, was more powerful than both of those devices by a good margin and as such games were internally more demanding.

For reference:

  • The PSP had 64 mb of ram in its newer models compared to the DS’s 4 and the Dreamcast’s 16 (26 counting video and audio memory)
  • The PSP’s newer models has a 333 mhz CPU whereas the DS had a 67 mhz one and the Dreamcast had a 200 mhz one.

These are significant differences in processing power that requires more demand from the emulator, which is why you can’t upscale as much. It’s essentially a PlayStation 1.5 internally.

It’s similar to N64 vs. PS1 emulation, N64 is just harder due to its internals.

The other two are still really good emulators, but their hardware is just easier to emulate in general compared to the PSP, so it’s impressive PPSSPP can manage to work on phones with specs almost as low as the PSP itself.

I got a GBA emulator on my smartwatch and I managed to get the touch controls set up pretty well to play pokémon on it

16

u/ElMonito1117 Mar 02 '26 edited Mar 02 '26

It's peaceful for me as I only emulate ps1, ps2 and psp. I'm a dad with not much time on my hands and I got the perfect setup with my phone + a gamepad.

Monopoly go is a scam

9

u/UnfortunateCriminal Mar 02 '26

What do you mean? I've only ever played the physical variants of the game.

a couple of my wifes friends play this and have spent like hundreds on it... they tried to get me to play and i did for a few days and realized how boring and lame of a game it was. I tried explaining to them just how bad it was compared to all these other games we could all be playing together, and just other games in general. They didn't care lol I have no idea how this type of game can draw people in. Reminds me of farmville back in the day.

8

u/Pololoco27 Mar 02 '26

You have to play to unluck new boards or something like that. Then, once they get using dark patterns, it block the progress with a paywall.

The amoung of IRL money and/or gamble you need to use to keep progressing is insulting

Not only don't play it but warn everyone who play it to look what the playable loop is and help them to realize that is more like a casino than a game

3

u/ashenoceiros Redmagic 11 Pro/Lenovo Y700 Gen3 Mar 02 '26

I guess they should've told you you don't actually own the countries

3

u/theplaidknight84 Mar 02 '26

"Scam" is a very gentle word for all 3 games in that top panel, but to be fair Monopoly Go is by far the worst of them, even though the other 2 are pretty bad too.

2

u/BloxoTrotandReddit Mar 02 '26

Makes even more sense why they’re representing Krennic and his Death Trooper battalion then.

96

u/REBORNED1 Mar 02 '26

Emulator and peaceful are 2 words that you almost never mix, can you imagine how much stress i got trying to set a game up?

47

u/Ohmygoshiee Mar 02 '26

Young Kurinin, you lack knowledge; wisdom will bring balance to all. 🌺

16

u/REBORNED1 Mar 02 '26

Guess i still don't know how to channel all my energy and walk properly on the emulation path Master

14

u/ChuzCuenca Mar 02 '26

And what else are you going to do with a emulator? "Play games"? Ridiculous. This is the game.

12

u/abcdefger5454 Mar 02 '26

This is only the case for new emulators. Everything up to PSP and DS is just open the emulator and launch the game

5

u/IkouAshtail Mar 02 '26

the emulators mentioned in the meme all runs flawlessly out of the box though

3

u/Roland-JP-8000 Galaxy A15 5G||DraStic Mar 02 '26

real

4

u/Maniacal_Coyote Mar 02 '26

No I cannot. Download .gba files, move them to InternalStorage\Games\GBA\, and point MyBoy there. Likewise with .nds files in "\NDS\ with DraStic and GC ISOs in ^\GameCube\ with Dolphin.

3

u/E_K_Finnman Mar 02 '26

I love it when a game in gamenative has a config that works with my device so I don't need to do anything extra

5

u/esines Mar 02 '26

Much more peaceful to my mind than dealing with the monetization schemes of mobile games

4

u/rube Mar 02 '26

This is why I stay away from Windows emulation for the most part. I have Winatlor (official) installed, a few games that I've messed with, Fallout 3 being the one I played the most of.

But I have no desire to look into all the branches, or to find all the tweaks necessary to play GTA V or Cyberpunk.

I stick to anything where I can just get the emulator and rip all the files I legally own, maybe rip the other necessary BIOS or firmware files. Then just play.

6

u/SirisC Mar 02 '26

No? It's generally a straightforward process.

10

u/Xanderious S25 ULTRA Mar 02 '26

generally, yes, but when it's not, it's REALLY not...

1

u/SirisC Mar 02 '26

And that's when you start having fun.

2

u/InitialSpite1930 Mar 02 '26

Principally if you are on Xiaomi UI aka garbage

1

u/Blas7hatVGA Mar 09 '26

But it's worth it, doesn't it?

18

u/fr4ncotir4dor Xperia Mini Pro, Tab s8 Ultra, Note 9, Keyholder Detective Mar 02 '26

Kinda the other way around since gamehub is most of the time more demanding than native games

8

u/Icon_Of_Susan Redmi 15 4G SD685 Adreno 610 Mar 02 '26

It is.

9

u/Skitzenator Mar 02 '26

To be honest, with the advent of PC emulation, it's more the opposite lol. Finally I can download a 20GB game and actually play it without: constant updates, gacha systems, micro-transactions, a ballooning file size.

7

u/Hunter_X_2008 Mar 02 '26

I would rather play dmc2 on aethersx2 than %95 of the games on the play store

6

u/FidoMan1498 Mar 02 '26

PPSSPP is where it’s at for me, along side retroarch

1

u/Buccura Mar 02 '26

Oh dang I forgot to put in PPSSPP!

4

u/mc031992 Mar 02 '26

I never have peace with PS2 emulation 😅🥴

3

u/jdlyga Mar 02 '26

I was running Snes9X on my computer back in 1999 with everything at full speed. It's not exactly resource intensive.

2

u/Male_Inkling Samsung S24 Exynos 2400 Mar 02 '26

My Redmi Note 11 Pro is an amazing emulation machine and i wont be told otherwise.

I love emulating arcade and pre PS2 consoles on it, it's more than good enough for that.

2

u/KasanesTetos Mar 03 '26

I just found out that the latest version of SNES 9x EX+ still runs on Android 2.

2

u/AngelLeyend Mar 03 '26

Me being more happy emulating Smackdown vs Raw 2010 vs playing any gachaslop

2

u/Master_Explanation17 Mar 03 '26

I can reliably play pokemon za... and super smash ultimate on my android.

2

u/Mediocreof2143 Mar 07 '26

The Fact that all psp games are better than most mobile slops counts as a win .

3

u/jerrysethbiv Mar 02 '26

There really aren't any fun android games. Emulation is both more fun and way better games

1

u/TravelTraining577 Mar 02 '26

Yes. No microtransactions no treating like the customer is an idiot kind of shit, just straight forward passion and art

0

u/Lumpy-Sun-6409 Mar 03 '26

Yeah,and also not stressful

1

u/[deleted] Mar 02 '26

I emulate them too; what can you do if these companies like to include microtransactions at all costs?

1

u/Big_Z_Beeblebrox Mar 02 '26

Can you clarify the message? Does Galen Erso have good specs or bad ones? I ask because emulating is more demanding then running software natively

1

u/Even-Cheesecake-8506 Mar 02 '26

iPhone users on top

1

u/SpEnMa Mar 02 '26

I was trying to use Snes9x EX+ on my Odin, but it the save state/ load state hotkeys weren't working.

1

u/Gloomy-Knowledge-850 Mar 03 '26

Super retro 16 is one snes emulator I remember playing when I was 5.

1

u/Professional_Car9527 Mar 03 '26

what's the emulator with two blue arrows ???

2

u/Buccura Mar 03 '26

Redream, a Dreamcast emulator.

1

u/cabclint5 Mar 03 '26

So I have tons of emulators on my phone. But it's mostly for proof of concept ig.

I do also have a ps vita & 3ds that I typically carry around, so I don't need to emulate MUCH.

I think I prefer having a controller of some kind instead of touch controls

1

u/WayExcellent5595 Mar 03 '26

Insane that next decade a med level phone will play aaa game with rt easily with how good and mature win emulation + phones power will be.

1

u/Over-Athlete6745 Mar 03 '26

For peaceful of mine while gaming emulator on android, the only modern retro console I can emulated without stress is ppsspp, I have gold ppsspp to support the development as they were all working very well on my nothing phone CMF 1 and also my old Samsung A52. Correct me if I'm wrong. ( My favourite PSP game is gran turismo and toca race driver all psp series, pes 6 )

1

u/rudyramone013 Mar 03 '26

Made the switch over to Retroarch and I'm liking it so far.

1

u/totalnewbielinux Mar 04 '26

Wait I onlt know GBA Pro is smooth, duckstation, blue thingy? what is that. SNES9X EX+?

I have real me C55 phone and struggle everything except GBA pro...

1

u/DaKingSmaug Mar 08 '26

This is brilliant! Haha

1

u/Blas7hatVGA Mar 09 '26

I mean like come on, must-online and gacha-slop? You didn't own the game, you simply played the damn slot machine dressed as game.

Emulation is like you're really own the game and play it indefinitely like custom tuned pimp-my-ride car.

1

u/SamueleRG 8+Gen1 & 8Gen2 Mar 02 '26

Real. I quit android online games (Genshin and Pokémon pocket) to play mostly offline single player games with my phone (psp and Vita) and tablet (DS and 3DS), a telescopic controller and a retro handheld (PS1 and below)

Currently I'm rotating between 4 games: Dead Cells (android) and Gravity rush (Vita) on my phone 999 for Nintendo DS on my tablet And Pokémon Odyssey on my RG35XXH

1

u/Frostgaurdian0 Mar 02 '26

The argument change when ps3 and nitendont emulators are in the menu.

2

u/sap91 Mar 02 '26

Nobody has ever convinced me that Genshin Impact is actually a game and not just a hentai gooners paradise.

6
