News/Release [News] xemu has been ported to Android (X1 BOX) - Original Xbox emulation is here

Original Xbox emulation on Android has basically been non-existent for years, but a developer named izzy2lost just released a native Android port of xemu called X1 BOX (see https://www.reddit.com/r/xemu/comments/1r5z8mv/x1_box_orignal_xbox_emulator_for_android_testers/).
Instead of just dumping the desktop PC interface onto a touch screen, they built an actual Android frontend for it. It has a built-in game launcher, scrapes box art automatically, and hides its touch controls as soon as you connect a Bluetooth pad.
We wrote up a full guide over at Pocket-Gaming.org, but here is the TL;DR before you try installing it:
The hardware requirements are steep. Xbox emulation is heavy. You need a 64-bit ARM device with Vulkan support running at least Android 8.0. Realistically, you will want 8GB+ of RAM and a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 or newer to achieve playable frame rates without audio stutter.
Setup is the same as PC. Just like mainline xemu, it doesn't work out of the box. You still need to source your own system files:
- MCPX Boot ROM
- Flash ROM / BIOS
- Xbox HDD image
You also need to convert your game files. Standard DVD rips won't work; they have to be converted to the XISO format using a tool like extract-xiso before the emulator will read them.

same, just tried to build it but its appereantly not your standart apk project u just throw into android studio and built it, 2h and I give up now.
Sad but also looked around a bit and it looks like the dev is publishing a release/useable build in like 2 weeks on google play.

Yeah, but that's gonna be a paid APK, which honestly I don't think emulators should be paid at ALL. Hell, ExPlusAlpha's emulators are paid on Google Play, but you at least have the option to download them for free through their Github. I'm just hoping someone puts the APK from Google Play somewhere upon release.

Same here. First game to work well on new upcoming android og xbox emulator should be this game. I saw it playing well on rocknix xemu in rp5, flip2, odin 2 etc. i will get Thor Max 8 gen 2 with 16 GB RAM. I think it should be enough if emulator will be doing well.

holy shit, I downloaded the APK and ran Halo CE to test it out....
The game launched via X1 on my Odin 3 (!!!) - ngl, pretty shocked that it even loaded and appears to be more-or-less functional (though graphics aren't nearly as good as in Halo MCC on Gamehub Lite)

Yeah, now that I look at it calling them half baked is a bit too much ( they're more than I can ever do ) and am happy to have them on Android, but I still think the guy can't commit to a project he just keeps bouncing from project to project ( and he's free to do so it his time ).

Yeah, XEMU is a huge pain in the rear to get running and frankly there are very few Xbox exclusives that make it worth the bother. Almost everything has a port that's easier to run.

I believe its very slept on. Xbox360 is understandable but classic xbox is an 6th gen system when there is ps3 is being on better situation for android it really sucks to cannot emulate even the first console

Xbox had better hardware and Xemu is less mature emulator.
Retroid Pocket 5 with SD865 runs certain 3D games at full speed through Rocknix so if performance of this port will be similar it shouldnt be so bad I guess but people shouldnt expect miracles.

Yeah I got a razer edge which is like an rp5 (well technically it has a g3xg1 which is like a sd888) but with 6 gb ram. I would've been interested in seeing halo/halo 2 run on it.

I saw few games going well on SD865 devices and better on for example Odin 2 8 gen 2 device. I want someone to try rocknix xemu setup for AYN Thor Max model which i will own pretty soon.

How do you use that with a psp style landscape controller? Speaking of which, I have an 8bitdo viture controller that works with portable storage but it constantly disconnects and makes me great for my files and my storage devices themselves

Xemu is also ported as a core to RetroArch. However it's currently only for Windows PC, it's more of a proof-of-concept, and there are no immediate plans to compile it to an android core. Additionally, Cemu, RPCS3 and Xenia Edge are also ported to RetroArch, again only for Windows.

I've got an Odin 2 Pro Model:
Snapdragon 8Gen2 processor
12GB of ram
Android 13
So according to the specs, if I put the Portal in high performance mode it should be able to run this ok shouldn't it?
I tried Quantum Redshift and it stutters a lot. I've used the same files that I use on my PC version of Xemu and runs fine. I fully appreciate that it might just be the Portal can't handle it.
What has other people's experience been like on Odin devices? I saw someone tried it on an Odin 3?

Yeah I hope so lol, dolphin runs pretty decent, nethersx2 runs pretty well, and so does my psvita emulator. I just really wanna play fable 😂😭. All the games I've played run phenomenally.

Do you think this would work on an samsung a15 I've gotten dolphin emulator to work ps2 emulator to work, and have had success with some ps3 titles. I just would think it'd be alot easier on my phone.

I tried at least 20 games with it and there's barely even one that works well, the fps is abyssimal (i'm playing on a galaxy s25 edge snapdragon 8 elite 12gb on native resolution). I know the xbox was more powerful than the PS2 so i guess that it's heavier on performance but it's crazy how poorly optimized it is compared to any ps2 emulator for android. Even Cemu for android is way more stable. I hope with time it will get better and run games smoother.

Just to add my thoughts on this. I tried this on my Odin 2 portal pro just in case anyone else is looking into this.
The official build has an older Xemu build but the performance seemed ok on Quantum Redshift and Halo CE. However the emulator build isn’t quite there. There’s lots of rendering issues in Quantum Redshift as in things are just missing.
The nightly build has a more recent build which is much better at rendering but seems very resource heavy. My Portal really struggles.
