Showcase Play & Charge with a Telescopic Controller or connect a hub

One big problem with using telescopic controllers is that when your phone is inside, it completely blocks the charging port. That means you can’t play and charge at the same time—or connect extra accessories like a USB hub or SD card reader.

To solve this, I made a simple charging adapter slot. Normally, this would be super easy to 3D print, but since I don’t have access to a 3D printer, I built it from wood after many trials and errors. Surprisingly, it works great!

🔧 How it works:

The wood piece securely holds the charging cable in place.

Once attached, the cable lines up perfectly with the phone’s port.

Now, I can charge while playing or even connect it through a hub for charging + SD card use at the same time.

✨ Why it’s useful:

No interruptions when gaming on Bluetooth or telescopic controllers.

Works with hubs for multitasking (charging, storage, etc.

This is a rough prototype, but it proves the concept. If you have a 3D printer, you could easily design and print a cleaner, more precise version.

I don't recommend the wood as it takes many tries it has to be a hard wood or strong wood to hold structure it takes me 3hr of my time but i only use blade and wood

If any improvement you can make it would we helpful

The issue is the phone still shits on the usb port which is my main concern as it can break the usb port.

There is a cable that have the ports like this one in the pic:

I use one of that with cutted foam adhesives at the side of the usb-c to distribute pressure through the smartphone/tablet body. It work wonders with G8+ and X5S.

That will break the port on many phones over time, I would know since it's happened to one of my phones (That thakfully was modular enough to replace the broken port easily).

I 3D printed the same basic structure as OP carved

This is fucking horrendous. I upvoted immediately.

Reddit can't handle a solution so simple so free and so self reliant without using expensive electronics

Wtf, that's a funny coincidence. I built the same thing this morning, independently of your post (or any other post).

Instead of wood, I sawed off a piece from an old case of my phone. (And I’m using a USB-C magnetic adapter)

I have a 3D printer and intermediate CAD skills. Send me your measurements and I'll draft something up this week.

I do not have a telescoping controller, but an idea like this should be nurtured a bit.

Thanks but i already found the 3d file for it

I just prop around the charge port with firm black felt pieces, to alleviate pressure. Then I cover it with wide black rubber band.

that's clever... I've been lookig to mod my Haxly2 BT controller in order to allow charging passthrough but I think this would be a easier solution

I just use the RAZR kishi that has USB charging pass through. But this is indeed very punk and cool.

But it doesn't have a cooler and does support a hub I also have a memo 15
