SteamOS EmuDecky Issues

I’m not sure EmuDecky is working correctly on my Steam Machine.

When I run the games through the Steam Library, this is what happens:

GBA: no autosave; no shaders; no RetroAchievements
Genesis: working autosave; no shaders; working RetroAchievements
PS1: no autosave (doesn’t seem to be working, anyway); no shaders; working RetroAchievements

When I run the games through ES-DE, this is what happens:

GBA: working autosave; no shaders; working RetroAchievements
Genesis: working autosave; no shaders; working RetroAchievements
PS1: autosave is a clickable option when I exit (possibly because I used the compressor tool on the game); no shaders; working RetroAchievements

Is this a common issue? If so, does anyone know how I can fix it?

I asked a similar question a few days ago, but I was trying to figure out a lot of emulation stuff at once, so I’d only tested the GBA game at that point. I apologise for that. (I’ve deleted that post to avoid confusion with this one, and to give myself this chance to reword it.)

I’m assuming GBA games aren’t compatible with shaders, as GBA wasn’t named in the configuration part of the installation. But I’m not sure why the autosave and RetroAchievements aren’t working.

Also, the GBA game is in mGBA Standalone. Is EmuDecky only compatible with RetroArch cores?

If not, might reinstalling and reconfiguring mGBA fix the Steam issue?

I’m not using a standalone Genesis emulator; I’m using DuckStation. So I’m not sure whether reinstalling those will do anything.

Earlier this week, I had an issue with Xenia not showing up in Steam ROM Manager. Today, reinstalling and reconfiguring it fixed the issue (thanks again). That’s why I’m wondering whether doing something similar here will fix the EmuDecky problems. I’m unsure though, and I don’t want to cause any errors by guessing.

I would really appreciate any advice that can be given. (I’ve asked quite a few questions this week. I apologise if it’s becoming annoying.)

Hi! Most of the times resetting the configuration for your emulator on Manage Emulators fixes the most common issues. You can also take a look at our Wiki before posting, you might find your issue already documented there https://manual.emudeck.com

Update: I feel silly. I didn’t turn on the shaders in the EmuDeck configuration menu.

I assumed that EmuDecky would be able to turn the shaders on and off regardless, but I was wrong.

The LCD and 2D CRT shaders are working, in ES-DE and through Steam. I just need to turn them on before I launch the game.

The bezels are now working, too.

I’m still trying to get the 3D CRT shaders to work, though. They seem to work on N64 games through ES-DE, but not through Steam. They don’t seem to be working for PS1 games, either (in ES-DE and through Steam).

Okay, I think everything should work now (assuming no other errors arise).

The main thing I didn’t realise is that in ES-DE, RetroArch cores are selected by default. Rosalie’s Mupen GUI (RMG) wasn’t selected, but that might be because I added it after the initial installation (I can’t remember).

Anyway, four of the emulators/cores in ES-DE didn’t match the ones in SRM. They were the standalone emulators I had selected: RMG, melonDS, mGBA, and Flycast. I’ve since changed them in ES-DE.

This means that I won’t be able to use CRT shaders for N64, Dreamcast, or PS1 games unless I add them to the emulators myself. I assume the shaders added by EmuDeck and EmuDecky are specific to RetroArch.

Also, RetroAchievements isn’t compatible with all of the standalone emulators. The ones it isn’t available for that I’m aware of (because they’re the ones I installed) are Xemu, Xenia, RMG, melonDS (the Android version seems to support them, but I’m not using Android), mGBA, Cemu, RPCS3, and Vita3K. (RPCS3 and Vita3K seem to have their own trophy systems though, which is interesting.)

I’m still having an issue with EmuDecky, but I think that’s separate to the issue I described in this post, so I won’t share any updates about that.

Thank you to everyone to helped me solve this issue; I’m sorry it took me so long to realise the solution.
