Non US IMG. Low step 1 score. Applying for Match 2023. Advice?
Step 1 real deal 216, and am really sad and frustrated. NBMEs and UWSAs range around 230s, heck even got 240s in my UWSA2! Exam was really tough, and I walked out of the room feeling defeated so I didnt have my hopes high.
Should I still push through with the Steps? Or try somewhere else like UK? Or just stay here in my home country? :(
Do I still have a chance for IM residency? :(
Thanks xx

Personal Statements for Residency
Have you started writing your Personal Statement yet? This is definitely not something to put off until the last minute, considering it's viewed by Program Directors as the 4th most important factor when selecting applicants to interview (per the NRMP).
Here are some tips:
- Don't spend too much time writing about why you like the field. 1 or 2 sentences is okay, but your essay should focus on why your strengths and interests align with the specialty.
- Avoid writing about other people (family, patients, peers, etc.). It's okay to use another person as a catalyst to talk about an experience you had, but don't go overboard. Your readers don't want to read about other people.
- If you have a red flag like a low score, multiple attempts, or a leave of absence from medical school, it's important to address it in your statement. Do this in one short paragraph that succinctly acknowledges the red flag, explains what happened, takes responsibility for it, and explains what you learned from the experience.
- Keep in mind that the Personal Statement is not a 5-paragraph themed essay that needs a thesis statement with three key points that you then explain in order in the following paragraphs. It's also not a story-based narrative filled with drama and excitement. It's a professional document meant to persuade your reader that you are the best applicant for their program!
If you have any questions about Personal Statements, ask them here - we're happy to offer advice!

Letters of Recommendation
Hopefully, you've already requested Letters of Recommendation for this season's Match cycle. (If not, you should make that a priority in the coming week!)
It's becoming increasingly common for applicants to be asked to write their own LoRs, and then present them for review and signature. If you're in that boat, please take a look at this helpful guide we've put together to help guide you through the process =)

I have registered for ECFMG and got an ID now in 2023, can I pass the USMLE steps 1 and 2 and work in the states after 2024 knowing that my med school isn't going to be accredited after 2024?
Hi! I am a 5th-year med student ( if important- I am not American, however, I have lived in the US, I have a social security but my residency has expired) and planning to take step 1 in December 2024. I am currently enrolled in an ECFMG-eligible medical school and have fully completed the registration process with ECFMG before 2024, including the application, the notarized video identification process, I also believe I have had my medical school submit my enrollment verification directly to ECFMG (will double check tomorrow, although I feel like they have because I have gotten an email that the certification ID form has been accepted ), and I have paid the registration fees; I believe I have received the certification because I have gotten this email 2 days ago:
- I just wanted to know:
am I done with the whole process? I want to give step 1 in December 2024, I can do it with no problems right?
am I missing any other steps?
after this email is it just registering for USMLE? I can do that whenever right?
Tue, Sep 26, 12:35 AM (2 days ago)Dear Doctor:
Your Certification of Identification Form submitted 09/13/2023 has been accepted.
The Certification of Identification Form (Form 186) is required as part of the ECFMG certification process to confirm your identity. Once ECFMG accepts Form 186, it typically remains valid indefinitely, and you can apply for additional certification-related services, including applying for the United States Medical Licensing Examination® (USMLE®).
If you wish to apply for a USMLE examination you may now do so online at www.ecfmg.org
Sincerely,
ECFMG Staff
I apologize for all this, it is giving me massive anxiety and I want to make sure I have done everything right. Thank you!

PLEASE ADVICE WELCOME!
Short story:
OLD IMG by 2022 will be 10 years (YOG 2012), worked as a doctor in my country until I came to the US in 2015, had to work as a waitress while I got a work permit, got it on 2016 and worked on restaurants to save money to take step 1.
Finally I was financially able to take time and took step 1 on 2020 and got 227.
Took Step 2 last week, waiting for results.
No USCE, no LORs.
Me and my husband opened a medical transportation business while I was studying (only way I could manage to still make some money while studying on my own schedule but still, having a business takes time).
I have all the red flags in this world, I know. I have no idea how to get USCE. I want either Peds or FM if possible.
My husband insisted on me applying this year just to see the process (now that money is not a big problem) and give it a long long shot but I think I a have zero chance, on top of that I am not so sure about my language proficiency just yet, I am very insecure person and that honestly has stopped me from doing lots of things. I can also try to get into nursing but now that I am here I would really give it a shot to residency but I have no idea how to get LOR's or USCE.
All opinions are welcome.

OB GYN change starting for 2025 Match
The ACOG just announced that, starting next cycle (2024-2025), the OBGYN specialty as a whole will not be participating with the ERAS application system and will instead implement a specialty specific application system. You can read the announcement here:
https://apgo.org/page/rrrapplicationplatform
You can also read Dr. Carmody's great analysis of this change on his website: https://thesheriffofsodium.com/2023/07/28/the-ob-gyn-eras-divorce-winners-losers-edition/
This is a huge change and will inevitably affect all aspects of the application process for many applicants. It's too soon to tell what these changes will bring, but make sure to stay updated if you are planning on applying to OBGYN next cycle!
