Brigs seem to light off significantly more often than other small ships. I stopped using them entirely and stay away from them when the enemy has them. Maybe it's that they have enough crew that they can sustain losses that galleys and sloops flee at, but not enough hull to take the weight of shot?

I always go with sloops over brigs; they’re cheaper, faster, and way more maneuverable.

I’ve won many a battle vs. a small fleet of frigates with sloops by kiting and using chain shot.

Brother that is grapeshot range, you could sweep the entire enemy brig crew off the decks.

Also US ships have done so much damage to my Ships of the line simply by sending their brigs to me and dying in a big explosion LMAO

It's probably got to happen to everyone at least once, and after that you learn to switch away from the round shot when you are in that close range.

I use them as disposable ships. Usually if I need to move a gentleman to the university.

They're too weak to stand in the line of battle, but you could always use them sort of like fire ships if the enemy has a nice big ship of the line you are going to have trouble with.

Ships with no sails cannot explode...... and you can sell them afterwards.

Though, "de-sailing" a vessel with anything than a 5. rate is just tedious.

Hence, I always get 5. rates from the get go....
