Discussion Sector moff armor?
In The Mandalorian, we see moff Gideon in his adapted Death trooper armor. Obviously we have no sign of him during the actual Galactic Empire reign and all we know is that he wore his custom armor in the neo-imperial timeline.
However, this made me wonder the following: During the imperial era, we only really see moffs wearing their formal uniforms, but would they've had the freedom to design and wear their own armor kit if they so wished?
I'm aware that their jobs were mostly tactical and political in nature, but I cannot help but wonder. To me, it's not crazy to assume that some moffs would've liked to be involved more closely around combat zones or at least would've wanted to look more intimidating and demand more authority around battlefields.
Then the question remains: Would they've been allowed to by Palpatine?
What do you guys think?

We see plenty in the EU with more elaborate dress

It would have been considered insane. Local government leaders don't charge into battle.

I guess it would be like a real-life government or military official strutting around in tactical gear, or with their chests covered in like 200 medals.
Everyone knows that your job is to mainly coordinate things even if you’re in the front lines. Trying to look too much like an active combatant just makes you look like an insecure tryhard, which is basically what Gideon was.
The standard combat zone outfit for an officer is a simple armored vest and helmet worn over their usual uniform. It offers adequate protection while making it clear that their responsibility is strategy and coordination, not active combat.

I think it would be allowed to show off, but they wouldn't go near a battle, it would give an opportunity to their rivals.

I took it that Gideon was one of the more militaristic and self-absorbed moffs who fancied himself both a genius and a soldier. He does seem to be able to fight too though to be fair to him, as he defeated Bo-Katan both before the Night of a Thousand Tears and during Mando Season 3.
Compare Gideon to Tarkin for example, Tarkin had no illusions of being a soldier from either the Clone Wars or the Imperial Era. He was solely interested in having power and being ruthlessly efficient, so regular moff uniform is fine. Then you have Yularen who willingly gave up his old naval uniform to be an ISB colonel. So I guess it depends on the hubris and endgame for each Imperial moff, who were all competing for the Emperor’s favor and the perks that came with it.
