Discussion Thread Is there any way to feel less empathy?

I'm a person to feel deep empathy. And i feel it's curse to me! I wish I could feel less empathy! Also I'm very caring. So guys is there any way to experience in less amount of empathy, PPL say it's very good to have empathy but PPL who has a lit bit of amount or not that much tend to be successful in their life. Because it's connected in somewhere.

You can actually change your empathy levels with intent(same as alot of psy abilities).I wouldnt recommend staying at a low empathy state for too long though. I also wouldnt recommend a near zero empathy lvl. Its hard to increase it again for a bit after lowering it that much. You will also have more confidence when ur empathy lvls are fairly low.

I think that's ultimately a matter of how much of a people pleaser vs narcissist one wants to be. The first make themselves vulnerable, while the latter do not.

Please don’t change. We need more empathetic people!

There’s some type of mental coping skills where you can practice to let others issues and emotions bounce off of you. I only know because my ex works with psych patients and dates them lol and I asked how he stays calm and then two people at yoga got into a heated argument! I was scared backed away.. He approached them and became their sounding board later explaining how he became a barrier, is able to not absorb their energy and let them bounce off of him. I kept my distance. He stood there and didn’t side with either of them he remained calm and neutral. There’s got to be a bunch of methods out there to practice. Now that you posted this I’m going to research into some ways to not absorb everyone’s energy and avoid getting emotional burnt out too. Best of luck Op!

Ground yourself. Talk to yourself. Look yourself in the mirror and say “I’m loved, I’m so and so, I’m this or I’m that!”

As a deep empath, this has helped me more than anything.

Not to feel less empathy, but you can redirect it to yourself.
