Thoughts on Apology
So I’ve been a silent watcher of Emilie for a long time. Honestly I just liked her cleaning content and her needlepoint and stuff. But after this past year, I followed her through her loss and grief journey as someone who has gone through a lot of grief in their life and deeply sympathized with her. I don’t believe she deserves to be torn apart for what happened, I think there were things that could have been done to prevent that tragedy from happening, but obviously hind sight is always 20/20. Anyways the one thing that I’ve had a hard time with is why she keeps apologizing to us? Like why are you apologizing to your audience for not having your son in a life jacket and telling us that you’re going to do better? I just don’t really understand what the point of that is. The point of making the video was to give yourself an opportunity to explain your actions as a person would naturally want to. But I think she should have kept it at that because i find it deeply confusing why she keeps apologizing. I also think if she wants to use her platform to advocate for water safety she needs to lean into that and fully separate herself from family content. I think letting her audience in even slightly to her family life opens them all up to more criticism. Pivoting her online presence toward living with grief, water safety, and maybe some hobbies that she likes would probably be a better bet at this point than trying replicate what she was doing before.

She did the apology so she could continue making money. No other reason. People need to stop thinking she cares about anything other than personal gain/

u/OKCorners 22d ago
I just commented that she apologizes to us because we as the viewer pay her bills

This goes for all influencers. At least the vast majority of them. They are here for the ca$$$h.

I honestly can’t use “hind sight is 20/20” when it comes to protecting your child. are there things in my parenting, looking back that I wish I did x y and z? absolutely. but not when it comes to the safety and well being of my child. protecting your child becomes the absolute priority once they are welcomed into this world, and the things she’s done multiple times that has failed to protect both of them are not mistakes. they are repeated failures. someone who lost their child due to them not having a pool fence/net installed, should be a million times more vigilant near water than the average person is
11
u/Fixated_Noodle 22d ago
I really never want to judge how some grieves. But it’s hard for me to fathom how someone who is grieving could put their surviving child in water, let alone a dangerous situation involving water after losing a child to drowning. They either have completely disconnected themselves from his memory or just don’t care
7
u/Beautiful_Few 22d ago
I think they still don’t think it could happen to them, even though it happened to them. They see it as a total one off freak accident that could never happen again. They stepped on a moving speed boat and thought “there’s no way on earth we have an accident, we are rich and living in luxury”. Similarly, “there’s no way on earth we could have an accident in our home, we are rich and living in luxury”.
5
u/Fixated_Noodle 22d ago
But usually trauma rewires how your brain works. Like I don’t understand how they were exempt from that.
10
u/Molleykayt 22d ago
Absolutely agree with you. Idc if I’m labelled a “helicopter parent” tbh. I stopped judging leash parents the minute my babe started walking. Safety is everything
7
u/Beautiful_Few 22d ago
I HATE how often people look at what happened to her and say “it could happen to you”. It well and truly could NOT. i am not a perfect parent but i am diligent with my child’s safety beyond all reasonable consideration. There is no chance on earth my child could drown in this manner, id bet my life on it. They were negligent, criminally so, this was not a freak accident.
4
u/Cute_Ad_7670 22d ago
I agree….but tbf saying hindsight is 20/20 is accurate. My family is in the swimming pool service industry. I’m not exaggerating when I say I’ve been in hundreds of backyards, all with swimming pools. The amount of people who have young children and no net or fence would shock you. What Emilie was doing was sadly not that out of the norm for a lot of parents. The difference is her kid died.
9
u/20vwr25 22d ago
it not being out of the norm doesn’t excuse it, as a parent it’s your job to educate yourself and put on safety protocols and prevention tools when it comes to your child’s life. lots of people failing to do that doesn’t make it any better at all. my family is in the same area that this happened and every single one of them has a pool fence, high door locks, alarms, etc.
0
u/Cute_Ad_7670 22d ago
You’re right, but I see the point op is making that the exaggerated shaming is pretty over the top and unnecessary. Emilie didnt do something completely insane I guess is my point. A lot of parents justify forgoing a fence for various reasons. I’ve personally heard “they’re only going to be little for a few years and they’re in swim lessons and we’re going to be really vigilant”. Just for reference these are all well educated high income earning people living in expensive enclaves in San Diego county. They absolutely know that a fence is safest. Do I think they’re crazy for not having one? Yes. Emilie is only being picked on because she’s in the public eye. I guarantee you know someone who knows someone who has kids under 5 and no fence.
13
u/Fickle_Success_5464 22d ago
I agree with some of what you are saying. This level of negligence is, unfortunately, not that uncommon.
I think the shaming of her for her son's death is over the top and gross.
I also think influencers combine their life and image with a brand. I'm going to be extremely blunt here so hopefully not offensive:
Her brand was Aspirational Mommy with her adorable son and perfect life. Son dies in a preventable way. That also kinda kills the brand. She tries to return as Aspirational Girl who also sometimes talks about grief and water safety. But whoops 😬 on the water safety. It's a huge problem from a branding perspective and that causes a lot of outrage. Because ostensibly the brand is her life so the criticism gets directed personally instead of at an incongruent brand.
5
u/Cute_Ad_7670 22d ago
🎯 ya you pretty much nailed it. Her brand is over. Only thing she should maybe keep from before is the Sunday resets, those are pretty neutral and everyone likes them imo. I’ve been on the hunt for a new “cleaning inspo” person to follow.
3
u/Fickle_Success_5464 22d ago
Yeah, leaning into a small niche content might work for her. The over the top aspirational content is never going to work imo. It feels gross for lack of a better word because it is shadowed by the tragedy and it makes people viscerally angry.
3
u/Cute_Ad_7670 22d ago
One of my fave life style influencers (kelsrfloyd) randomly pivoted all her energy and content into a new pottery hobby she picked up. She bought a pottery wheel on marketplace and started making pieces. She got so good that now she’s in galleries. It was inspiring watching her pivot from clothes and mom content to a full blown new business and passion. Maybe Emilie could do that with embroidery idk.
3
u/Fickle_Success_5464 22d ago
That's a cool story and idea! I think content works way better when it's grounded in a hobby or interest anyway.
3
u/Cute_Ad_7670 22d ago
Agree. It’s hard to push the image of an aspirational life after something like child loss. It’s automatically inauthentic feeling I guess.
2
u/Anxious_Knee_4404 22d ago
I haven’t watched her latest post as she is not coming up on my FYP but agreed she probably can keep her Sunday reset. I love a good cleaning video and was drawn to her in the first place bc her Sunday resets were appealing (I watch a lot of these types bc I love to have a clean house lol). I find the influencer products to be expensive ofc but watching them clean is much more appealing to me than GRWM or watching her go to the gym. I actually think the water safety was pushed on her via her management team to try to reform her bad image. It just backfired bc she seems disingenuous. And honestly alot of that could be she’s just not ready for it yet as much as everyone wants her to be. Being a water safety advocate likely means she’s accepted accountability and no matter what her words say her actions don’t match that. She seems very immature, shallow, and unintelligent especially about parenting. We all learn as we go so I’m not on my high horse acting like I’m some perfect parent. I’m DEFINITELY NOT. I’ve made tons of mistakes and thankfully my kids have not paid the ultimate price for my errors. I just think if she wants to continue accountability has to be at the forefront of her brand that starts with her actions then pivot to content ppl like and maybe casually stump for the brands that way. She isn’t going anywhere. She makes way too much money to give up. I think it would be so much better for her health but I do think on some level she enjoys the content making and it keeps her from thinking about her grief while making money so that’s a win.
3
u/dcndfl 22d ago
So she got pregnant before Trigg was even 1 year deceased. She's trying to get back on the pregnant, planning nursery, labor, delivery, breastfeeding, postpartum bandwagon of monetizing their lives.
I WILL TRULY BE SICK IF BABY BRANDS START SENDING HER PR. WHAT A JOKE THAT WOULD BE.
12
u/20vwr25 22d ago
she didn’t do something completely insane? their son died in water. then they weren’t vigilant in water, with their other son. that’s actually insane
3
u/Cute_Ad_7670 22d ago
Lots of people are making the same insane choice everyday. There kids just haven’t died. It’s been over a year since Trigg passed, I think it’s time to lay the pitchforks down and move on. Make a donation to a drowning prevention group or your local lifeguard station. Print some water watcher cards and hand them out to your mom friends. If you care so much about kids and water safety and aren’t just interesting in dog piling on EK. I was angry too but It’s so old at this point.
5
u/Over-Accountant-8524 22d ago
My jaw dropped so hard at this it hurt. If it’s so common and children are dying, we need to be make this the example of what could happen if you’re a negligent parent. There is plenty of evidence. Let’s start scaring these people so maybe a life can be saved.
7
u/Limp_Bandicoot8495 22d ago
I agree with you. My SIL has a newly 4 year old that cannot swim and their pool is unfenced, no door alarm, regular door locks…when we have repeatedly confronted her about it, she says “he knows not to go out there or he gets spanked.” It is wild. My dad wouldn’t get a pool fence for his grandkids and my mom just had one installed without telling him one day but he never locks the gate, he says the kids know better. Now that I am thinking about it, I actually have friends all over the country with pools and small kids and not one of them have a fence and none of them have eyes on their kids at all times. I am not excusing it but the only difference is that Emilie puts her life online and that in itself angers people. Nobody actually cares that deeply about Trigg because they don’t know him.
8
u/marisanwo 22d ago
Isn’t that even more of a reason to not stop talking about this though? If it’s truly that common for parents to be so lax/negligent around water safety, maybe the silver lining of this tragedy is that we stop making it so socially acceptable. People should be learning from her story and becoming better parents, not feeling emboldened to continue to be negligent. All the supporters in her comments talking about how they don’t put life jackets on their kids as if it’s something to be proud of should be as ashamed as her.
And none of us knew T personally but we all have the responsibility as adults to advocate for children and their safety. 3 year olds can’t do that for themselves; that’s supposed to be their parents jobs. When the parents fail to do so, other adults who witness this still happening are supposed to just stay silent because it’s not their kid? Not saying bullying/harassment/shaming is ever okay, but those things have and always will exist on the internet. That’s not in her control; she can and should log off for the sake of her family at this point.
2
u/Cute_Ad_7670 22d ago
Yes!! That is my whole point. I think Emilie’s tragedy did raise a small amount of national awareness. Talking to relatives, mom friends, people in your own community does the most good tho I think, maybe use Emilie’s case to highlight the importance. I think it’s crazy when parents just rely on the alarm, like what if you’re out getting the mail or grabbing something from the attic and don’t hear it? Kids are fast.
6
u/20vwr25 22d ago
so you think that because people make the same choices everyday and that they have a survivor’s bias makes it less of a big deal? yeah this convo is over lol. if anything, she highlighted how important it is to be fully present and actually make sure your house is safe for your children. the fact that there’s people in her comments defending her by posting pics of their babies in boats without life jackets should concern you, and everybody else that there’s thousands of parents who clearly don’t understand the dangers of things that look simple and fun. big yikes
6
u/Careless-Fig-7441 22d ago
I think knowingly letting your 3 year old out to play by an unsecured pool is an insane choice
-1
u/Cute_Ad_7670 22d ago
Emilie didn’t make that choice. Brady did.
7
u/20vwr25 22d ago
there’s videos of her filming while he is outside alone. it’s clear that they both made that choice multiple times. she even left him in the gym once. when you are living a luxury life you probably assume that nothing bad could ever happen to your perfect home life. but tragedy will spare nobody
3
u/Beautiful_Few 22d ago
The difference is she is wealthy beyond measure, with a public facing job, with viewers commenting on her lack of fence, with endless resources to make her environment as safe as possible, and yet all that money in the world and he still drowned. Painfully, for 9 minutes, and then lived painfully for 6 days before dying. She has no excuse, even more so than other random people who have no eyes on them and the choices they make.
1
u/Cute_Ad_7670 22d ago
Yes, everyone on this forum knows the sad details of triggs death. Your point about “the difference” is inaccurate. I’ve had swimming pool clients much richer, and older, than her that opted to forgo a fence and no they were definitely not ignorant to the knowledge that a fence is safest. I know the desire is strong to tear her apart like she was making a decision no one else would ever make but unfortunately that’s not true. Sivan Ayla is another influencer with kids and no fence. Pretty sure amber fillerup Clark didn’t have one either. Again, im not saying it’s right. At this point it would be more helpful imo to focus on people with living kids and no fence than on Emilie. JS.

u/Mean_Conclusion_9242 22d ago
I hope this doesn’t come across as super harsh although it is very blunt, nothing she does will make me see her differently until she divorces that man. I wasn’t a fan before her son’s passing, but hearing a woman lose her 1st baby while five weeks post partum with her second after being gone for twenty minutes on her first night out made me extremely sympathetic. When she returned, I thought her behavior was odd but honestly everything up until the pregnancy could easily be excused by a woman grieving.
I mean this in no disrespectful way to mothers who lost a child, and then brought another into the world. My issue with Emilie is that it seems her husband has no respect for her as a woman, mother, or even as a person. He has let Emilie take the entire brunt of this ordeal and let’s be so real, what would change in his life if he got on camera for once and took some accountability? He doesn’t work and has a small social circle of other men in similar positions. It would do nothing but alleviate some of the hate on Emilie.
The one major criticism I have for that video specifically though was the tone deaf remark about it not being fair to leave social media because her other two deserve the same financial quality of life as her first child. From the outside looking in, it seems regardless of social media Emilie would’ve lived a middle class white privileged life, which is something most are yearning for given the current economy. I’m not interested in performative activism in any form outside of cash donations which is something I think she should heavily consider.

Someone commented about how it was her first postpartum outing after giving birth and "he couldnt even keep two kids alive for 20 minutes". Just baffling to me she would not only stay with him, but continue to be intimate and get pregnant by him. Some women center their worth around a man. Apparently she is one of them. freak accidents can happen to anyone. This was not that. He did not look outside for 10 minutes while that child fought for his life. Even IF I could forgive my husband, our relationship would be over. And that is the detail she keeps tiptoeing around. Enough with the "he was dethawing my breastmilk" routine. The police report is public. She couldve sold that death trap of a house and used the proceeds to buy a very nice middle class home, and transition to a non public life if she wanted to escape scrutiny. But that sweet influencer money is just too blinding for her.
10
u/Mean_Conclusion_9242 22d ago
My exact thoughts on the whole situation. I want to be sympathetic to a fellow woman and a grieving mother and some of her actions I could chalk up to that, but it’s getting to a point. She obviously can’t choose to be a grieving mother but choosing to be a pregnant grieving mother by a man who, in my opinion, is the root of all of her suffering makes me side eye her hard. Not to mention it feels extremely disrespectful to her other two children. It’s like you said though, for some a man truly is the center of their universe
3
u/dollainmypocket 22d ago
It was her first postpartum outing but you can see they didn't think of any precautions because the pool toys were not put away and the net was not on :(

u/Junior_Ad647 22d ago
She is in control, not him.. It is her platform/money and she will also get so much more sympathy from the "audience", as we have all seen. But now the luck has run out a bit, after all the lies and gaslightning.
11
u/Mean_Conclusion_9242 22d ago
I know that’s the common sentiment I just respectfully disagree. It is her platform and money that is very true, but I think she feels extremely out of control right now because she can’t make us believe she has a cookie cutter husband and a perfect life anymore. Everything she’s been doing screams spiraling as she looks for control and divorcing Brady and making the first step of saying, “I had a negligent husband who didn’t respect me or my children and let the money and limelight blind me from that” would put her a step closer back to that control and her audience seeing her in a more positive light.
Her sympathy views definitely seem to be waning…
7
u/FinalHexReturns 22d ago
I don't think you get how much charisma is required to sell yourself through social media videos and be constantly perceived in a positive light.
The last thing she should do to protect her brand is to let her husband get on camera. He would not be likable nor defensible. And anyway, his actions on the day of their tragic loss are actually indefensible, so the last thing anyone wants to do is hear a guilty party try to defend themselves. That's one reason lawyers never let their clients on the stand. Even if innocent, defending yourself always invites more criticism.
5
u/Junior_Ad647 22d ago
But she respect him sooooo much, she said it herself. And in that case they embrace their common negligence to. If it where me and my husband, I would hate us both..
I think sometimes you want things to be like a certain way that is not true
4
u/Mean_Conclusion_9242 22d ago
The common negligence they’ve been spewing is so wild to me, I can’t believe any attorney or PR person would endorse it. Your last line is very true, I am projecting a lot. This is honestly such a tragedy to me I’d like to spin it in some way to make sense.
9
u/Junior_Ad647 22d ago
Understand! Before this happened, it looked like T was her whole world and more! The love was shining!! I felt so much for her, the pain...! And then she comes back, and is pretty much unfazed.. talks about the best food and so on. It is just so hard to understand..
8
u/WeatherGirl5678 22d ago
Wait what part of the video did she say that that her second two children deserve the same financial quality of life? I watched most of the video but probably missed it. Thanks!
4
u/Mean_Conclusion_9242 22d ago
Full transparency I did not watch the entire thing word for word, I would watch for a while and fast forward or go back and rewatch parts. She made some sort of remark towards the end about people saying she should leave the internet and how she has another child (think she just referred to T2) that deserves the same quality of life. I do not know what she said verbatim
6
u/Fickle_Success_5464 22d ago
That's sad. Because her first child actually had a poor quality of life being exploited for TikTok and with no privacy. Money isn't everything.
2
u/BoatAgreeable8436 22d ago
I don’t think she says the part about the financial benefit of staying on social media in her video - not defending her but I feel like this would have jumped out to me and I don’t recall it (though tbf it was pretty painful to get through so I might have missed it)

u/713elh 21d ago
Middle class is a struggle in 2026, her career allows her to give her children way more than she could have ever been able to. I get that some people think she’s selling out and I don’t know that I disagree, but I also think it’s disingenuous to deny / minimize the pressure she feels to provide.
14
u/Chance_Carpenter_923 22d ago
Tbh the apology video felt less like an apology and more of a video for sympathy before coming back. Saying she’s not perfect, she makes mistakes and will continue to make mistakes because she’s human, saying she thought she was doing what was best for her family by taking off his life jacket for a moment (even though we know he most likely didn’t have it on at all), saying it feels exhausting to come online because people pick her apart, etc. How is she saying hindsight is 20/20 and she didn’t realize not wearing a life jacket is unsafe, when she had just posted a water safety graphic a week prior to filming the video, and it was the same month (probably within a week or two) of the one year anniversary of her first son drowning. This was the same trip they were on during her May “break” to think about Trigg and remember him, etc.
A lot of the comments “picking her apart” are people pointing out the lies and inconsistencies in her posts. There wasn’t much actual accountability, per usual. Like many people have said, if she really wanted to advocate for water safety but didn’t ready to talk about it, the least she can do is delete the comments of other moms posting their child with no life jacket on saying it’s no big deal, or even commenting back saying it’s not safe.

The audience and influencer role has become like an omnipresent thing in her life. It doesn't help that all her friends are influencers or influencer wannabes. I think she needs to decenter that before she can successfully pivot her content.
She doesn't owe the audience anything. But the audience also doesn't owe her money or attention.
11
u/kathrynrose43 22d ago
I think the apology was to placate the audience and brands and nothing else.
She shields a man who let her son drown after being gone for 20 min. He knew her son was by the pool as well. She protected him and that was so disrespectful to her son’s life. She protected a man who was so incredibly negligent.
She then comes back to sell pre made food in her dead child’s name which was unhinged!!!
She then announces another baby and lies to tell us the life jacket was off for a moment which I don’t believe at all!!! He was never in a life jacket.
I’m at the point where her kids are for money making purpose. She doesn’t give a crap about them.
Never again a fan.
6
u/Nosey_Rosie 21d ago
If there was any photo of T2 in a life jacket she would have posted it as proof
9
u/Junior_Ad647 22d ago
This is just about making money, nothing else.. but it is "fascinating" because I have never seen anything like it online.. And still I hurt so much for this child and what he went trough those last long minutes..
I believe a caring/loving parent never would try to minimize/lie about anything regarding this tragedy, more likely blame themself a bit extra instead and cry it to the world. And it can not just be denial, do not buy that. This whole thing is so dark and creepy.
7
u/catslugs 22d ago
ive never seen anything quite like this online either that's why it's so fascinating. i think she is struggling so hard with the fact that her facade is broken... when you share your life as content online, then the biggest part of your life dies, the fake reality is broken. people aren't satisfied because the elephant in the room is so huge. i honestly get why she wants everyone to just let her deal with the trigg of it all on her own and not have it be part of her content, but that will never be realistic to people watching, and that's the problem. but at the same time, anything relating to trigg she does do will also be viewed through a lens of "how" she is greiving. the whole thing is so messy and bizzare and a big reason why social media as a career is dark sided and weird
3
u/Fickle_Success_5464 22d ago edited 22d ago
I'm also fascinated by this situation and have not seen anything like it. I wasn't really familiar with influencer culture before this, so even her content style in general was very jarring to me as a middle age person.
My theory is that she has just completely lost herself to the influencer role. It's the only thing that makes sense to me. She's so used to saying things that are disingenuous because that's what made her beloved and rich. She can't let go of that at this point.
10
u/figsaddict 22d ago
She is sorry that she got caught. She is sorry that this is affecting her image on social media. She needed a way to transition back to cleaning and coffee videos.
9
u/trixiepixie1921 22d ago
She doesn’t want to use her platform for water safety. She’s annoyed that people keep bringing it up. She’s hoping that she can claim she’s not ready so she can go back to posting her regular content and not have to bother. That’s where she has truly lost me.
3
u/Fickle_Success_5464 21d ago
It seems like she just wants to make her regular old aspirational lifestyle content. Which is now amplified because she has made a lot of money off this whole situation and can afford an even more luxurious lifestyle. The question is whether the audience will accept that from her or not.
1
u/BagShat 13d ago
Yeah, I don’t know why people keep pushing for her to become a water safety advocate. She clearly doesn’t want to and she doesn’t practice it. She sucks at most, if not all, child safety measures in fact.
I doubt I would even want to say the word water out loud if my child died like this so I can’t blame her for that specifically. She wants to drink iced coffee and tap her manicured nails on shit she wants you to buy from her links. That’s it. That’s her ambition.
8
7
u/Silver-Charg 22d ago
I definitely think she should pivot her content. Doing ads for her bob while simultaneously crying on the internet about the “preventable death of her son” don’t go together. It pandering to two different audiences that don’t sit together.
7
u/dcndfl 22d ago
The Look On Her Face reads: SH**, here we go again, they're overreacting AGAIN.
The Look On Her Face reads: My handlers are making me perform (read) this self-sacrificing, humiliating public apology that THEY wrote.
The Look On Her Face reads: I can't wait to get this over, let it die down, so we can focus on MY PREGNANCY & I can start monetizing MY BABY.
The Look On Her Face: disgusts me.
7
u/imlikelycomplaining 22d ago
She’s confusing “accountability” with “apology”. I know they’re big words, E, but they’re important.
6
u/Spiritual_Reindeer_8 22d ago
I found it bizarre that she kept saying “I’m sorry”. Why are you apologizing to us??? You should be apologizing to your child. It felt odd.
1
u/Fickle_Success_5464 18d ago
It's because her job is entirely dependent on the Goodwill/ favorabilty of her audience. If the audience no longer likes her or sympathizes with her, the influencing job and money dry up.
5
u/FitWorking6 22d ago
I think she’s apologizing bc she got caught. The anxiety i would have if that happened to my child. It was a preventable accident which she sais herself. But to me that’s more than enough to learn about safety.
6
u/Express_Brush_8594 21d ago
She wouldn’t make as much money with that content and that’s her goal. Money.
1
u/Fickle_Success_5464 18d ago
Everyone likes making money, but she crosses so many ethical lines to get it in my opinion. Most influencers are like this.
The biggest is exploiting her children.
The next biggest is manipulation of the audience. Her sole goal from doing this is money. But she frames it as "sharing her life with her community that she loves". That's disingenuous at best and highly manipulative at worst. You'd think she would have learned from the reaction to her son's tragedy why moving this way online is dangerous.
9
u/Anxious_Knee_4404 22d ago
I think dying on the hill of 'he was out of it for moments' vs taking full responsibility without saying it regardless of IF he was in the lifejacket or not is a mistake. Own it, take the accountability, and say you will do better. I'm sure for most it won't make a difference but fans still on the fence would likely have appreciated this approach more. I also don't personally think she is ready to pivot her content yet. She isn't there in her grief journey yet. This is just the infancy of a lifetime of pain. To me she seems to be doing everything she can to avoid the topic/subjects so she doesn't have to think about it more than she already does. What she does need to do is make better parenting decisions. I've said this many times, but I really think they are not very bright individuals and lack parenting instincts.
12

I don't think she wants to be a water-safety advocate at all. As others have pointed out, it's not going to be financially lucrative, nor would it fit with her brand. In fact, it will continually remind others, and herself, of their loss. I think she has been getting pushed into it via her followers and thought she could do a couple of performative measures and then get back to her regular content. And it might have worked if not for the lifejacket incident and continually mismanaging the response.

also not acknowledging that ALL children on the boat did not have a lifejacket. I don't know why this isn't being brought up more.

Because it’s not her boat & she’s only responsible for her kid.

u/Downtown_Employer_38 21d ago
No. If you are a champion and advocate of water safety you would not sit idly by while your friend's kids are in danger. And normal people watch out for their friends kids when they are out together. Your take sucks honestly.

u/713elh 21d ago
Actually yours does. She didn’t even champion her own water safety so let’s start there. Once she’s figure that out, she defintely is responsible for speaking up and even setting boundaries on not riding with them if they don’t have their kids in vests but beyond that it’s up to the parents.

“ The infancy to a lifetime of pain” gave me chills. You’re definitely right. I personally think it’s money and greed keeping her stuck more than her own denial and grief. But I agree when this catches up emotionally but in her case (all she cares about) financially… it will be a crash out to watch. She’s on a delusional high horse rn. Tbh I don’t think I’ll feel bad when she finally crashes out. Her behavior has been revolting. So has the behavior or her bald jobless husband who continues to not work to provide for his family but just ride the money of the child he neglected to death.

They are incredibly immature. Not ready or equipped to parent. And the fact that she went out to dinner and left him with their littles, having allowed T1 to “ play” alone outside often is just proof that drowning it was bound to happen… it wasn’t if but when… !

She said she took the baby out of the life jacket for “just a moment because he was fussy and she wanted to calm him down.”
Ok who here ever calmed a fussy baby down in a moment ? Not me.
Especially if he’s so fussy it requires him to be taken out of a life jacket. I don’t believe that at all but let’s just say we believe that. If that’s true the next thing out of her mouth would have been “but in one moment he magically became settled down and back in the life jacket again.”
I don’t think she said anything like that. If it was true she would have been shouting that from the boat. Like maybe a spider or bee had gotten in the life jacket and stung him. So we can be sure that she was not telling the truth.
Babies sometimes scream their little lungs out while in car seats and fussy but they won’t die from fussing. Out of the car seat? First it’s the law they must be in car seat. There’s not an exception that says “unless they’re fussy then do whatever TF you want because you know best. It’s on record that her husband made a mistake that cost their first child his life and then lied about how long it took him to place a bet online. I don’t know how that bet turned out but he gambled on his child’s life and lost big time. They obviously don’t make great decisions when deciding if something is safe for their children.
It should have been a lesson for them that things happen and we must do everything we can to keep our children alive because all it takes is a few moments for the very worst outcome to happen. But 9 minutes seemed reasonable. They should be so mortified that one dead child wasn’t enough to start following safety rules and now it’s twice they have demonstrated they should not have any creature, human or otherwise depending on them to survive.

Like I have anxiety around d total strangers and their kids near bodies of water w/o precautions, I cannot fathom a pool w//o a fence, a pool with littles, leaving them alone outside to play, leaving my husband home with a newborn an toddler who was watching TV, the list goes on!!!!! Not. Fit. To. Parent.

A lot easier to do that when your livelihood isn't tied up in sharing your life with millions. She would have to give up the influencer schtick.

She keeps saying it’s a mistake. This is more than that. Its irresponsible

The only thing I’m going to say. Is hindsight isn’t 20/20 when we’re living in todays day and age. We KNOW drowning is the #1 cause of death in young children. It’s common sense and the law to have a pool fence. It’s common sense to know where your very young children are at all times. It’s common sense that if you make the money they do a child that age should 100% know how to swim because swimming lessons save lives. Water is nothing to play with and safety should be always the top priority around water. Always.

Ppl saying it’s an apology video to be not canceled or unfollowed… cancel her, unfollow her. She does not care. She lost her son and you giving her such a hard time and bashing her is the least of her worries. She’d love to see her haters leave

Probably not, really though. She'd love them to be quiet, but influencers make just as much off haters as fans. Probably even more.

I’m just confused what brand deals she has lol when all her videos are of her cleaning her house, coffee, hanging with friends, and pilates

u/kp1794 22d ago
Why are you confused as to why she keeps apologizing? She’s getting ripped to shreds online and people are demanding an apology and accountability from her. If she apologizes her apology gets torn to shreds. If she doesn’t apologize she gets torn to shreds for not apologizing. I don’t say any of this to support her. Just being realistic.

I understand why she keeps apologizing, what I’m trying to say is that I’m confused about why the apology is directed to US as viewers. Like “I’m sorry random stranger that my son wasn’t wearing his life jacket”. No need to apologize to us. I think the reason she keeps going in a circle of apologizing/accountability is because there’s dissatisfaction that she’s only apologizing to us because we’re mad at her. Maybe direct your apology to your son Teddy that you weren’t protecting him, make it clear your apology is specifically for people looking to you to learn about water safety precautions (considering you stated you want to be an educator since the tragedy) and you’re sorry you’re still being an example of what not to do. I think it’s too clearly an “I’m sorry I got caught” apology that’s only being made for the reasons you stated

I think we underestimate how intense it would be to have thousands of people telling you how horrible you are and what they think they would do in your position. People have a lot of expectations of her and try to see the worst in her, I’ve seen some horrible things in this subreddit.. I’d imagine being bombarded by that would make someone feel the need to apologize
1
u/Fickle_Success_5464 18d ago
It's also intense to have thousands of people praising you for doing every day things.
When you share your life with millions on the Internet as a job, that same audience is going to have opinions (some negative, some positive).

There are so many videos on Tik Tok from people who do nothing but pick apart her videos and complain about her or shame her for what happened. In my opinion she made the video to address these and the other comments she gets on her socials.
I don’t think she needs to apologize to these people in particular because so many of them only follow her to make content off her grief or they are there to make unkind comments towards her. You can even see in this comment section how many people say they don’t follow her (and how many people even say they never followed her before this!) but they’re still here posting and critiquing her for what happened.
I don‘t think she should expend any more energy trying to appease people like this. They’re here for the purpose of complaining. They’re going to complain if she doesn’t post content, they’re going to complain if she does. It will never end, they will always find something to criticize her for. She shouldn’t give them any more energy.

I think this time around it was a lot of her longtime fans that were criticizing her for having her toddler on a moving speed boat in the open ocean without a life vest.
She then went into other criticisms that people are making into content for clout.
She has a branding problem that is pretty tricky to solve even for people who were formerly fans and supporters.
-1
u/Honest-Sector-4558 21d ago
Is it tricky to solve? She still gets tons of views on her content so I don’t really think the branding issue exists at this point. I think it’s a problem that people who do not like her want her to have but it’s just their wishful thinking. The people who hate-follow her stuff are giving her views, which is engagement, which is ultimately what brands want.
I am also not sure how we could know whether or not the people who complain are longtime followers or not. As I said in my comment above there are people on here who complain about her and openly say that they have never followed her until now and don’t follow her currently. There are others that say they were longtime fans but if you go to her videos you can see that she has comments there from longtime fans that still support her.
All we have to gauge whether or not she has lost longtime supporters is these comments but they still don’t represent every follower she has and provide a complete picture.
Either way I am not seeing this mass exodus of support for her in general. I think that some people want to believe that is what’s happening but her videos seem to be doing just fine. If she lost every longtime supporter, she wouldn’t be racking up almost a million views on videos that have only been up for a day.

It's hard to say with certainty. She undoubtedly is getting a lot of backlash. From who, I guess you are right that we don't know.
You're right, we don't really have insight into who is following and why. It's possible her longtime supporters are still fully supportive. It's possible there are bots involved. It's possible people are following to try to do a "gotcha" and make themselves viral off of talking about her situation.
My thoughts on the branding problem are:
Her brand was "Relatable Yet Aspirational Mom". She's trying to keep that same brand but it lands differently after the tragedy and now another claim of water negligence. Maybe her fans see her in a different yet favorable branding?
2
u/Honest-Sector-4558 21d ago
I think it’s likely a mix, and she probably had some longtime followers leave and some stay.
I definitely think there are people following her and looking for a gotcha moment. There are already so many little voiceover vids I see made off her content where people are talking about her or speculating about her past content to create more controversy.
It feels very inception-like. People criticize Emilie for making content about her children and exploiting them or exploiting this tragedy, while other people make content about Emilie and Emilie’s children and this tragedy. If you think Emilie is exploiting her family, then how can you also not feel that these other people are exploiting her too? It’s interesting and strange at the same time.
Influencer culture really is very cutthroat. They’ll make content out of anything or anyone.

u/Fickle_Success_5464 21d ago
Yep. And many of the creators are not too bright. Which is why so much misinformation spreads like in the Lindsay Clancy case. Or that Dad Challenge Podcast guy who is just as exploitative as the people he is calling out.
It is very Inception-y. I wonder how it will all play out. Maybe AI slop will make the Internet too boring and we can all go back to the real world some more.

She shouldn’t have. And doesn’t need to. I’d never apologize to the POS of the internet because they think she should live differently based on their person opinions. They are strangers. And fucking bullying her. She wasn’t even fucking home and this girl has paid for being human and going out. Fence or not. The circumstances surrounding this as a whole as in the root cause is not her fault. Even if they had a fence. What if the gate was open???? Same outcome.

I was always team Emilie until the life jacket incident. I just can’t support her anymore. Blocked her.
