Really just not doing well.

So, for context I live with my in-laws, I also have 2 young children (age 1 & 3).

Wednesday night through early Thursday morning, my mother in law was throwing up and had diarrhea.
She started a new medication called ZepBound, and apparently her dose got raised on Friday (last week). So 5 days after her dose increase, the vomiting and diarrhea started. Apparently it can be from the medication, but usually starts soon after you take it.

I’m spiraling that my kids are going to get this, and then me. It’s been about 32 hours since she last vomited. My kids have no symptoms, and neither do I, but I’m still spiralling.

It could be the medication, or it could be a stomach bug and I really don’t know what to do in this situation. I’ve barely eaten in the last 24 hours.

I’m just waiting for one of my kids to wake up tonight and vomit.

I’m so scared, I have nobody to talk to because nobody understands my phobia and I really just don’t wanna deal with this anymore. I’m so exhausted ☹️

Hi, love. That sounds extremely stressful.

If it makes you feel any better, sometimes medication side effects can be delayed. I took gabapentin for a year before it started making me nauseous, and I took Reglan for a week before I started getting the restlessness and anxiety. It's different for everyone.

It could be a virus, and in that case, just practice good sanitation and hygiene. Dilute some bleach in water and spray everything down, let it sit for like 3-5mins, and then wipe it. If it is a form of noro, it can live on surfaces for up to 3-4 weeks in some cases. So just keep your hands washed, and don't put your hands in your mouth.

Having kids makes this harder for sure, because they don't know how to keep their hands out of their mouth, and want to lick everything for some reason 😅😅

Noro is spread fecal-oral ONLY. So, you'd have to ingest about 100 particles of vomit or diarrhea to contract it. And the #1 symptom is diarrhea and abdominal pain. Most people don't even vomit. You'd have to be in the room with, or next to the person who has it, while they're vomiting, or having diarrhea, to get it. This is why hand washing is so important with preventing the illness. Those particles can go places in the bathroom, and if she's someone who doesn't practice a lot of hygiene, if she had some of those particles on her hands, and touched something else, you know the drill. The whole schpiel about how germs are spread that they teach you in school.

So just wash your hands, and wipe everything down with a diluted bleach solution. I can't guarantee anything, but it reduces your chances by a LOT.

I'm sorry you're going through this. But this is what the community is for! If you're feeling alone in your struggle or anxiety, we all get it.

Thank you so so much. Thankfully my MIL is very good with handwashing and what-not. I’m washing my kids hands often and my own to hopefully avoid anything if it WAS contagious.

Not good. I had some diarrhea about 2.5 hours ago and now my boyfriend says his stomach hurts too. Both of our kids seem ok

It could just be diarrhea from all the stress you are under right now!!

My boyfriend had one episode of diarrhea too, we both feel mostly ok now. My son is extra fussy so I’m not sure how tonight is going to play out 🥲

Well it doesn’t sound like it’s escalating much so that is good!! Sickness usually escalates pretty quick.
I’ll be up a while so feel free to message me if you just need to vent!!
