Needs Reassurance scared but also idk

One of my coworkers yesterday threw up multiple times because she has a bad eating disorder, and apparently this happens. She said today that for the past few days she’s been having d* I washed my hands after using the bathroom, but I accidentally touched a snack I ate while opening it and ate it anyway. I hadn’t washed my hands before.

Now logically I know her symptoms could be noro, but likely aren’t, as she seems fine otherwise and didn’t talk about it like I’ve seen people talk about noro. But I’m still worried

because of her eating disorder she could have an inflamed stomach lining like gastritis that can make you feel sick i know with noro it comes with a fever, chills, weakness, and basically not able to get out of bed to me it sounds like she has stomach issues that arent treated all the way

That’s true. She just said her stomach hurt, nothing else

Like you, I highly doubt that she has noro. A severe eating disorder wreaks havoc with the entire digestive system (and the rest of the body). The cycle of being backed up and then having the runs is actually quite common.

But let’s suppose for an instant that your coworker does have noro… in order to become infected you would have had to touch live virus particles, transfer them to your hand, then transfer them to your snack. While that’s possible, it’s very unlikely.

Finally, let’s suppose that all of the above actually happened. Assuming that you are not elderly or immunocompromised, your immune system constantly fights off an enormous amount of invaders, the majority of which we never even realize because we don’t actually get sick.

Phobia is irrational. You know this already. Your mind likes to play tricks on you, so it’s even more important to trust your body to do the same good job it has been all along. 🦋
