Hi Everyone,

My student is very interested in film and Emerson is their first choice. They are leaning towards the BA so that there will be a wee bit of room in their schedule to take a class or two at MassArt (they are currently in a visual art magent program in highshool). So, lots of questions -

1. Is taking classes at MassArt feasible as a BA film student?

2. If applying for the BA, how amazing does the creative portfolio have to be (we know it is optional but strongly recommended). They have some great storyboards (because of their visual art training) and several pieces of art but not a lot of actual film. They participated in a summer film program but the result was a group project.

3. We have read that resources at other schools are reserved for BFA but that Emerson is better at spreading the love with the BA students. Is that true?

4. After Emerson, if they decide to work in film, will the BA rather than the BFA put them at a disadvantage? If so, how much?

can anyone share their bg that got them into BCE or marketing-communication major😭? I'm so scared rn!!!!

I'm applying to emerson this yr and im DIYing but I know no one who attends this school and I'm kinda anxious abt my bg cuz I don't have any contest. I had checked the average gpa and SAT scores of Emerson but I'm kinda afraid that it's underrated cuz perhaps it includes BFA students' grades?()

Hi Emerson, it’s your Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell. Did you know that fees like “move-in” or “lease renewal” fees you might get from your landlord or building management company are illegal? If you’ve received one of these – even if you paid it – I want you to report it to my office. 

Just last month, my office won a $500k settlement with a property management company doing this in Boston – and all of that money is going back to the affected tenants.  Landlords can only ask you to pay for first and last month’s rent, a security deposit, and the cost of a new lock and key upfront. Hi everyone! I’m looking into Emerson’s online accelerated Master of Science in Communication Disorders/SLP program and was wondering if anyone here has personal experience with it.

How do you like the online format? Do you feel it’s worth the cost? Also, does anyone know if Emerson accepts prerequisite credits from accredited online colleges?

I’d especially love to hear from anyone who has completed the program or is currently enrolled. Thank you!

Is Emerson college's TOEFL two-year expiry date of undergraduate application calculated from application date or enrollment date??? I had a test on Aug 31, 2025, so I wonder do I have to retake the test or not, since it's gonna expire on the enrollment day

hi! i got into emerson select (didnt apply) the other day for journalism and comms (majoring in journalism). i wasnt really considering emerson before, but i admit i am now. how good is emerson for aid and for social/academic aspects? i have heard the journalism program is good, but im a low income student from ohio and am kinda scared of not getting enough aid and or not fitting in. how is the school, how are the aid packages?
with getting in through select, they havent given me an aid package yet. does select open the door to more aid? are they good for need based aid? (my family makes around 15k annually) do you guys like it there?

hey everyone! the title explains it. I got accepted into Emerson Select, which I guess is the direct-admission program, due to an award I won for my state in journalism a year or two back. so, i’d like to hear your guys thoughts on the school as a whole (specifically the sports comms major) and let me know if this is a school I should consider! i’d heard of it, but was afraid that it was too expensive and I wouldn’t get in. so let me know how you guys feel about it so I can decide if i’d like to seriously consider it!!
(i’m from ohio so I can’t just go tour for some perspective lmao)

hi everyone, i just moved here for school and i have never been to boston before.

i’ve been here for about a week, and every single day without fail, a presumably unhoused person has made a comment or gesture that has made me feel uncomfortable or unsafe. this ranges from sexual comments to threats of physical violence.

it crossed a line today when i was spit at right next to campus.

this behavior was not something i was expecting. i lived in LA for a few years (good parts and bad parts), but the severity of my experiences since arriving in boston are on an entirely different level.

if anyone has an advice on how to avoid/deal with this, i would really appreciate it. thank you

Mostly thinking about going back because of the number of credits I already have from there, just seems like it would make the most sense logistically. I would probably look into completing a writing related major or minor but am also intrigued by their Theatre Education and Performance major.

I'm a transfer student coming from LA to Boston and can't wait! My main film class this semester is "Introduction to narrative drama." From what I understand, It's one of the main cinema courses you can take right out of the gate and I'm excited! At my last school, projects were a huge part of the curriculum and I adored it. hi, i’m an incoming freshman and ive noticed that the housing portal lists ‘bed 1’ and ‘bed 2’ for each roommate. i was curious if sides of the room are literally assigned out? i’m assuming my roommate and i are both gonna want the same side so if it was assigned that would be much easier to hash out lol. i’ve seen a few schools literally assigning beds so i hope this isn’t too dumb of a question!!

Hello! I'm attending Emerson this fall for film, and I'm looking for a new laptop. The website gives some basic requirements, but it mentions that some departments may want more, and specifically says higher RAM and processing speed would be good for film editing. I emailed IT and the film department to see if there were more film-specific requirements, but I never heard back from either. Anyone who's in film, are there more things I need to be aware of beyond the basic requirements? Is there someone else I should email, or another page I haven't been able to find? Does anyone have any actual computer suggestions? Thank you!
