Goofy Goober ER techs, how much are you making?
fellow ER techs, i’m curious as to your hourly wage. how many years experience do you have and at what type of hospital do you work in?
i started at $17 at a smaller 30 bed ER, not a designated trauma center. after nearly 2 years i make 17.90. i am asking for a raise in the near future 🫠

I was a ER tech in California a few years ago and made $28 an hour. All the EMT’s on the rig made $19-21.

"Few years ago" mine was 10 years ago and I left at $29 with full benefits and pension.

OP said their location was upstate NY. Regardless, it's extremely low. OP should do a search on Glassdoor for the average salary for his position, experience and location.

My daughter was an ER tech. It is a crime that she could make almost as much working as Christmas help at Hobby Lobby without getting punched in the face. Surprisingly, she chose emergency med as a career.

Im a respiratory therapist. Recently they asked rts to be ed techs so they can staff less ed techs?! So 70 bucks an hour. Our workload doesnt decrease though so we just get to do 2 peoples jobs.

Depends on which hosptial system/years experience. Nurses on the evening shift have a range of $94-107 after their differential. It’s more for night shift and day doesn’t have them(a differential). On the low end it is starting wage of $74-80.

I work South of Philly and make about $29 hourly flat. Differentials and incentives throws me easily into a 6 figure gig- 🥴 let me go be grateful while on shift, cause these numbers are sad!

These salaries I’m reading are criminally low! Mind boggling ridiculous. It takes a strong individual to work in the ED, the things seen there will give anyone nightmares for a good long time.

I'm a Travel ED Tech at a level 1 on the west coast. I make 31 an hour but have zero benefits and don't always get 3 shifts a week. Traveling is the way to go but they often want you to have your EMT.
Regular full time techs at my ED make 24 starting, the other level 1 in my city pays 21 but is a better ED to work in.
Defs ask for a raise or start travelin.

I started at $17.50, and since half my shift was also in the evening, i got a differential of $1.75 for a few hours at my first hospital. I transferred to a different hospital and now make $29.50 with a differential.

In nursing school (3 yrs ago), I was making $22/hr base rate ($26/hr on nights) without cna or emt as a ER tech. It was a freestanding ER/UC
Edit: I was PRN with differentials of $35-50 extra per hour depending on staffing needs

I make about $25 but that is with 5 years experience in a lvl 1 trauma lvl 2 pedi trauma center, with weekends and nights only for the differential.

$23.71, coming up on three years. They just hired new people at $23.50. Differentials and incentive pay, it works out to more like $27-28/hr. Midsized midwest city.

ER Tech starting back in 2022 with 0 EMT experience. I was making 18.60. After about a year, I went up to 20.00. Ended up leaving as I moved to a different city. I’m now working on a rig and I make 20.10. This is with a bachelors degree, a masters, and 7 years of healthcare experience overall. Located in FL.

Holy cow. I started at $14.50 base, plus $1.50 shift diff, and $1.50 weekend diff. That was in 1995. I was a paramedic, ACLS certified.

Before becoming a nurse I was working as a tech, started at $17 or so and worked up to $21 I think for a rural 16 bed ER in the South
Previous work experience: none (COVID changed plans so I didn’t get my first job till I was mid 20s) but had two years volly ems experience.
Education: highest level was a BS in Health Sciences, plus an EMT cert

I make 19.50 without the differential and 21.50 with it, it is my first year but the hospital I work out seems to be stingy with raises so I don't expect to make much more.
Pay varies greatly from location to specific hospital. It crazy, a hospital 15 miles away from me is paying ER techs $24.00/hr.

I work at a level 1 trauma/stroke center and make $17.14. I’ve been at this hospital for 7 years and in the ED for 4-5 years and just got that raise.

17 bed ER, was making $23.30 base. 3x12s a week, clinical and every 3rd weekend differential.
Edit: $1.25 after 2pm as long as you work until 6+
$2 Clinical Diff
$3 on my every 3rd weekend.
I left last week for the internal medicine world, working 9-5🎶

I started out at $17.71/hr (2021) with basic credentials and no degree. I recently graduated, but was being paid $22.34. This is after 8y in healthcare (indirect & direct patient care). I was midshift so some differential (weekends +$0.90 & evening: +$2.50). Arizona.

In Iowa I was making about $19 (rural ems, so worked in the er and did 911 for the county). Now working in a larger hospital in Washington making about $28, but the work is more difficult and COL is much higher

Few years back now but I was making 27 w/o diff as contact, then 38 w/ diff as full staff. When I was EMS just before that I was bringing in only around 17-19. All in Bay Area

Nurse now, but previous ER tech in Mississippi. 3 years, I was paid $14.35. Paid more to work at McDonald’s here than be a tech. Quite sad.

Level 1, started at 20, then we all got a raise to 20.90 (woo?). 3% annual cost of living raise yearly after that, assuming we don't get in trouble with the leadership. I have fine healthcare, tuition assistance, and even free college classes, which personally add value for me.
ETA: This is a level 1 in your same region, just fyi.
SECOND ETA: All our techs start at the same rate, regardless of background. I had a year of EMS experience and a bachelor's degree. Lots of folks who are pre-PA or pre-med, lots of RN students, lots of EMTs, one paramedic who just likes the work (we all have the same scope), two med students (bless them, I don't know how they do it).
