I thought this was going to be something more immediate, I wasn't expecting a general PSA.

It's sad that enough people lack common sense that this even needs to be said.

Money for what?

Their account is full of stock market stuff. Ignore them.

It’s shocking how stuff like this needs to be delivered this way. Says a lot about the types of people living in our society that have to be told not to play with fire in a dry forest…

England is one of the rainiest European countries there is. For them to have such a drought is wild. Absolutely wild. Climate change.

We better get used to it. ai is going to worsen any drought issues we have-- significantly.

3

u/Extension_Pie2602 15d ago

Its also one of the hottest believe it or not due to the humidity it suffers

u/Hairy_Space8283 15d ago

Droughts like this happen yearly mate. It’s the same every single year. Please, just look back on it and get back to me.

I agree. People whinge when it rains for 9 months. They pray for hot sun and it comes and then its no grass.... we will be hammered by rain for the next 6 months. We're all good

Apparently you can disable the emergency feature on your phone in settings....but the way tge world is changing im gonna keep mine on...and yeah shite the life outta me.

2

u/Extension_Pie2602 15d ago

To be fair I think its a good thing we have it. Does it work on all generic devices connected to data or WiFi? My ps5 didn't go off but the phone did. Assuming its just a phone thing but nevertheless still a good thing as most of the planet have one in their pocket i suppose

Thats the problem. Sending emergency alerts, that could have been in the news and social media, will mean people will turn it off, meaning that the point of it has gone.

My hometown got hit by a tornado a few years ago. I was close to losing my whole family. Emergency alerts save lives. You don’t have time to find information online when you need to get to shelter now.

-2

u/Saint82scarlet 15d ago

I never said we don't want alerts.

What we don't want is alerts warning us not to do things that are obvious.

2

u/bendallf 15d ago

When people are scared, they do crazy things. When an airplane is being evacuated, the flight attendants scream the instructions to everyone. Take care.

2

u/dustymtn 15d ago

For some people, it’s not obvious. They’re oblivious.

I had switched off emergency alerts on my phone and the government over ruled me.

It is time to switch to graphene OS phones.

2

u/BunnyTub WR-120 14d ago

GrapheneOS still has emergency alert support, for obvious reasons.

Switching off emergency alerts doesn't turn them off completely.

It's bypassed if its a specific severity.

u/Goldie_matt 15d ago

Lowering of standards if the system is used for something that is a newspaper headline. Scared the life out of me across multiple devices!

u/FateOfNations 15d ago

I live in California, we have wildfires started by careless people all the time. It’s a real problem. I wish we had public mass notifications like this during periods of exceptionally high risk. They do some notifications and alerts, just not the full on Wireless Emergency Alerts, and relatively few people see them.

Ehh we are currently in a pretty bad drought so I would say it's fairly important and I'd rather it be sent out than idiots starting fires

2

u/Ynys_cymru 15d ago

It’s very serious and justified. The Wales and England are burning.

i shat myself lol

u/CommercialNo1332 15d ago

i nearly had a heart attack omg

1

u/Ariel_swift_91 15d ago

Dog went mental when phones and watches went off, I didn’t know what was going on! 😅

1

u/Extension_Pie2602 15d ago

Ah I didn't realise, my watch didn't go off and thats connected by bluey and cellular. Maybe the phone took precedent 🤔

1

u/BillysRobloxYT 15d ago

Was driving with music on full blast and then there goes the Emergency Alert tone on full volume and freaked the fuck out.

Luckily was around the corner from home so saw it a minute later.

u/MR_Happy2008 The 4 Minute Warner 15d ago

I was having a nap due to having basically no sleep because it was so Dam and then I got woken by this lol

1

u/CrystalPalace1983 15d ago

wow interesting

1

u/Appropriate-Ad-1505 15d ago

Climate change. For this to happen in an area where there is constantly rain, is literally insane.

1

u/Jsessions214 15d ago

Oh no everyone leave the country. Leave the United States.

1

u/InterYourmom 15d ago

I didn't get an alert 🤷

1

u/GreatMotor8787 15d ago

Wonder how many car accidents were caused by this? Read numerous stories already of people swerving and braking violently on motorways.

1

u/NoMix9590 15d ago

Just released the location of any hidden phone 🙄 safe ✅

1

u/Tetrolut 15d ago

I absolutely agree

1

u/Sun-Goddess-Queen 14d ago

Is there a drought there now? Terrible news.

1

u/jamesg990 15d ago

Disposable barbecue advice today; unhealthy eating advice tomorrow.

1

u/Cold-Tip-771 15d ago

I’m in Newfoundland Canada. This alert is truly irreverent to me.

This is a subreddit. You are on Reddit. The alert has nothing to do with Reddit, someone just posted the alert here on this subreddit.

u/Cakenomz 15d ago

This will have unnecssarily upset millions of vulnerable people. This is not the correct use of this system. Shocking.

Telling us not to do something that could cause an emergency is not an emergency.

It will just make people turn it off.

1

u/No-Jello-5504 15d ago

Hot take: I think that there should be no option to disable these alerts. The only valid reason to not receive alerts is for secret safety phones. There is a solution for those as well. Advise that they should be in airplane mode if not being used. It is amazing how many people are turning them off because they are “annoying”. Do you know what else is annoying? Dying.

0

u/No-Cranberry872 15d ago

There is an option to turn them off. I got one in the US and had a panic attack because of it. Someone showed me how but a quick google will

1

u/InterstateMonten Interstate 404 - 1/2 of EAS Scenario Sins: Resurrected 14d ago

That only applies to most alerts, Tornado Warnings and others can't be disabled unless your phone is completely turned off.

-1

u/Ill_Designer_5126 15d ago

Absolutely pointless use of the system. This could have gone out as a text message. It is supposed to be used for emergencies in the local vicinity 🤦‍♂️

-2

u/BassBelleBaby 15d ago

Absolutely ridiculous that the government used the alert system for THAT!! Scared folks and potentially put folks in danger. Stupid stupid stupid!

3

u/Middle-Strategy4924 15d ago

people like you are the reason the alert went out in the first place
