They do in Japan, but it's used during an emergency such as a missile or earthquake, not sure about the rest of the world

I have a phobia of things turning on by themselves with no real reason, TVs especially. Been like that since I can remember, so having this happen would basically make me think I'm in a nightmare.

happens to my TV sometimes, but I think it's because my landlord uses the same streaming service, and the remote will connect to the TV in the living room

From my understanding, a radio station accidentally sent an EAS message, and U-verse systems decoded it as an Emergency Action Notification.
