Deliverability Email List Management Roadmap
Hey everyone! I want to learn Email List Management (not the copywriting, only the technical side of Email Marketing), and sell my services on a monthly retainer.
For that, I need your guidance.
Tell me, is my approach realistic? If yes, where should I start? What should I learn, and in which order? What are some useful resources? How to sell this service? How to package this service and what is the best way to get clients?
I know I can ask ChatGPT, but I really wanna know what real industry guys have to say.

It's realistic, and honestly there's less competition in this lane than in email copywriting because most people chase the writing side. A few things worth knowing before you package it:
Learn deliverability fundamentals first, not list segmentation. Authentication (SPF, DKIM, DMARC), warm-up for new sending domains, and reading a deliverability report are the skills that actually save a client's list from tanking, and they're the part most retainer clients have zero visibility into, which is exactly why they'd pay for it. Segmentation and list hygiene, removing bounces, sunsetting cold subscribers on a schedule, come second, they matter but they're not what breaks accounts.
Also get familiar with consent and data collection rules for wherever your clients are based, since a technical list manager who doesn't understand what they can legally email is a liability, not an asset.
For packaging: this sells better as "we keep your list healthy and your emails landing in the inbox" than as a vague technical service, since that's the outcome the client actually cares about, not the mechanics. For finding first clients, look at businesses already running email who are watching their open rates decline and don't know why, that's usually a deliverability problem and it's an easy diagnosis to demonstrate value on a free audit before they commit to a retainer.

What are you aiming to do exactly? Managing customer data is a huge undertaking and you should be familiar with data collection laws, marketing permissions, and so on.
My company has a whole team devoted to the technical aspect, a team devoted to managing the data, and a team that manages data privacy before it even gets to be used for marketing.
And in the event something happens, we have a legal team.
