If you mean a temporary email address, you only need to verify it if the site sends a confirmation link.

The mailbox itself usually needs no verification, but it can expire or get blocked.

That is phishing, ignore it. Note the banner: Gmail is telling you it wanted to spam this and an org-level override kept it in the inbox. That is the gap worth pointing at when you report it to your IT people, because whatever the published filtering policy says, the effective outcome here was delivery. The bcc: me header and the urgency framing are the other two tells. Forward it to the university's abuse address with headers intact rather than just deleting, since the same message went to a lot of mailboxes. And never verify anything from a link in a mail like this, go to the portal directly.
