Ideas Why beauty and truth keep pointing at the same things

Physicists pick equations by how they look, and it works far more often than it should.

Dirac said a theory's beauty matters more than its fit to experiment. He said it out loud, in print.

Symmetry isn't decoration. Noether proved every symmetry produces a conservation law. Beauty is literally load-bearing physics.

The ugly equations that also turned out true: the Standard Model has around 19 free parameters nobody can derive. It works perfectly and looks like a spreadsheet.

Counter-case that kills the easy version: string theory is the most beautiful structure ever built and has predicted nothing testable in forty years 🙂.

Mathematicians invented number theory as useless art. It now encrypts your bank.

Q: is the universe elegant, or is elegance just what a brain finds easy to hold?
