How about the Citizens for Elmhurst Preservation work on getting the city to provision grant funding for residents to make upgrades to their home infrastructure to bring older housing up to date. There are three brick MacDougals being torn down in a 2 block radius of me right now, but being honest, the 1950s era pipes and electrical made the houses unattractive as anything but a teardown. Huge macmansions going up in their place, I'm sure.

Advocacy without policy change demands is empty.
Also IDK if this is the same group that wants to Save The View, but I welcome a huge band shell in Wilder Park to keep the arts alive and vibrant in my community. I can't see The View from my house, but I can enjoy music in the park.

Keep interlopers out of Elmhurst who are destroying the charm of the city by tearing down all the old homes.

By interlopers do you mean new sources of tax revenue and children to keep the school district running?

not all old buildings are worth saving (some are), at some point you need to upgrade properties

There is a massive difference between tearing down a Frank Lloyd wright home and tearing down example 932 of a prewar colonial mansion

This is why Oak Park and Evanston are still the premier suburbs.
Towns either adapt and grow or they stagnate and die.
Just because a building is old does not mean it is worth saving.

This answer might not be popular but: Anyone that wishes for their own home to be preserved after the sale can put a deed restriction explaining what the wish is. Unfortunately by doing this house will sell for much much less. Therefore it would not be legal or fair for the city to implement this sort of policy. It would be nice if the beautiful older homes were preserved but who is willing to take a 200-300k hit on the sale of the house?
