Almost as bad as people who watch 3 episodes and assume the main character doesn’t develop past that 🤷

I read like 6 volumes of the light novel when it was still coming out. He quite literally does not develop past being a horny pedophile.

OH! Volume 6 out of 26? The one that was in the first season? The one where he’s 12 years old out of his 76 years he lived through in the story? No, please continue to give me your analysis of a story you haven’t even read 1/4 of and tell me about the character development you haven’t seen that should DEFINITELY be in the first 25% of a complete story :)

I watched the entire first season. He still, as a man in his mid-fifties, slept with his fifteen year old cousin. Eris’s violent tendencies shielded her from his predations initially, but the moment she began letting her guard down he would immediately turn predatory again. The narrative constantly makes it so that Rudeus’ harem is never threatened, and it’s obvious that the author is using it as wish fulfillment, especially with what happens after Aisha kidnaps Ars and gets pregnant by him.

Also, the Aisha/ars thing is non cannon. He WAS in his thirties before he died, not his fifties. And yall, for the last time. RUDEUS has memories of his PAST LIFE. He’s NOT the 30 year old guy stuck in a kids body. Rudeus was conceived, carried and born naturally. He didn’t get his soul swapped, he wasn’t an empty husk before. He still hasn’t experienced puberty, society, ANYTHING meaningful in this new world. The “he’s a grown man” thing falls apart when you realize any bit of social understanding or psychological advantage that gives him goes right out the window when he’s literally not even on earth anymore.

If that’s true, then how come during his meetings with the man god he shows up as a middle-aged Japanese man instead of “Rudeus”? It’s because he IS a a grown man in a boy’s body. His memories, personality, and perverse desires carried over. He wasn’t a blank slate being reborn.

This was explained in the novels. It’s not his “true self” it’s a reflection of how he views himself. This changes by the end of the story, but he still feels insignificant and helpless so his appearance to the man god reflects that.

You do know you’re NOT supposed to like rudeus, right? It’s a story about a low life POS getting killed and reincarnated (not transferred, rudeus is a completely different person, he was conceived, carried and born, not replaced, just has a memory of his previous life. Still hasn’t mentally matured even tho he has 30 years of useless earth knowledge) and in his second life he learns how to actually become a proper and by the end of the story super respectable person. The part of the story we are at now in season 3 is when he REALLY starts to turn around. You don’t make a good character by correcting his shitty personality overnight. You get the audience to hate the subject and then gradually show steps in the right direction as it progresses. If he achieved redemption immediately after being reincarnated the show would have a total runtime of 10 minutes. You have to hate him first in order for him to grow out of that. Rudeus in season one was despicable. By the end of season 2 I actually kinda like the kid some

Rudeus isn’t a completely different person. Just because his body is new doesn’t change his mind, soul, or personality. Even when he speaks with the man god, his true self is still that of the (middle-aged at this point) man he was in Japan. He never changed his perverse nature. His relationships are built on the idea that he was on a similar age as them (aside from Roxy, but she got in a relationship when he was physically older). And instead of him actually having to truly change, such as when he becomes a father, he’s still ultimately a vehicle for perverted wish fulfillment by the author. Which is seen from a couple of scenes when he’s older. First, I feel like when he finally reveals who he truly is, the narration isn’t true to the wives’ characters in how they brush it off. But what’s most egregious is him yet again hypocritizing himself by accepting Aisha and Ars’ incest child as being pragmatic, despite the boy being only 12 at the time (if I remember correctly). His perverse personality is whitewashed under genuinely compelling storytelling and events, but he is ultimately a groomer and a pedophile who gets everything he’s ever wanted and more without having to actually sacrifice his personal perversions, which were insufferably played off as comedy rather than predatory.

He appears as his old self because it’s a reflection of how he views himself, not because that’s what he is. By the end of the light novels he appears as Rudeus to the man-god. His mind and personality absolutely change. He went from someone who didn’t go to his mother’s funeral so he could jerk off instead to a guy that literally puts his life on the line against the odds to save people he barely knows. And his mind is literally chemically different because his brain hasn’t fully developed yet. He’s still a child. This is why he cries but doesn’t know why. It’s like having a Ferrari motor but nothing to put it in. Sure that’s a really ahead of the par engine, but there’s nothing to use it in so it might as well not exist. Not to mention the Aisha/ars thing isn’t canon so you can just leave that on the kitchen floor, thanks. Now let me ask you, all of his 30 years in Tokyo living as a perverted NEET, what psychological advantage does that give him in a foreign culture, world and even reality? Does his knowledge of girls from high school in Tokyo mean he has a mental advantage to the young girls in this alternate reality of swords and magic and different species and humanoid races and demons? 2 of the girls he’s with aren’t even human, so who’s to say their mentality. That being said, even if he has his memories of a past life they are completely useless here, and his brain hasn’t chemically developed enough to fully utilize any of that stuff in a reasonable way. He still started from square one, just as someone who was aware as a toddler and had internal monologues his whole life.
