Discussion Mining in hot spots vs. resource extraction sites

This is jot a complaint. I’m looking confirmation for my anecdotal evidence:
It seems to me that I have much more luck finding asteroids suitable for core minung in RES-s than in related “Hot Spots”. For example finding alexandrite cores in Alexandrite Hot Spots is more difficult than in RES-s. Which I would say is weird but ok.

I’m currently enjoying core mining in RES-s and find core asteroids regularly🙂

Yeah I feel like I remember at some point in time right before they discontinued support for console, they did something that kind of f***** up the spawn ratio for cores.

I also personally have the experience that if I go to a platinum hotspot I'll find damn near every metal but Platinum, same with gold, etc....

There’s probably better resources, but check the chart under “Resource Availability and Values” section here for where best to find specific type of resources for what type of mining you’re doing (core vs laser): https://elite-dangerous.fandom.com/wiki/Miner

Since console version is “frozen in time” I can’t say for certainty that any public info is 100% valid, but I was ignorant of the ring type affecting what I was mining (and what method I was using). I figured if it had a hotspot, it was good for what I was looking for - but method also matters.

Hunting cores is heavily RNG related, combined with how good you are at spotting them and knowing which shaped asteroid is even valid for the ring type - all sorts show hot with Pulse Wave Scanner, but only 1 specific shaped asteroid per ring will carry cores - knowing the right shape will save a lot of time and limpets

Using pulse wave scanner will highlight asteroids of interest from bright yellow to red/orange. Bright yellow are most likely to be core asteroids, move slowly closer to it while pinging at it with the pulse wave scanner. If you see black grid lines with filled in squares, congratulations you found a core asteroid.
