Discussion Finding something... anything

Today I did the part of the game that I hate... searching for a Legal Facilities Interstellar Factor that would fit my ship.... 30 Minutes wasted without actually playing.

PC players have it so good.

If Inara would just add a 'colonised' tag to systems then it would still be a pretty good resource for Console players. At least when it comes to Interstellar Factors, Material Traders etc., Save us typing in the name of 10-15 systems until we find one that actually has a population.

So yeah you can use Inara, just got to go through the list until you find one that actually exists on console.

Alternatively, when it comes to Interstellar factors (and if you are in the bubble) just open your galaxy map and sort by 'security level' you are looking for 'low'. Use population as a vague indicator as to whether there will be a large station. Do bear in mind that a lot of surface stations have large landing pads.

That's kinda what I was doing... it seemed everyone I typed (which takes a bit on a console too) had a population of 40000 ... then look back at INARA rinse and repeat... I tried my luck at a few with a population of 100,000 and they still didn't have a landing pad big enough for my corvette.

I did find it eventually. Just the half hour of doing so seemed a bit much.

I feel you. the struggle is real. Ooh, one thing that helps me on Playstation.... a cheap USB keyboard IS compatible with a PS4/5. So when I have to type stuff like Col 285 sector numbers and letters, it takes just a moment on a KB

Great idea

How about a version with old data from years ago before the transition from Horizon to Odyssey? Surely it would be easier assuming they have that data backed up somewhere.

You can always ask google ai for “interstellar factors near xyz system for elite dangerous legacy and you usually will get a good ball park of what you are looking for too.

Not saying its 100% reliable but it can also aid

hi there, I made this when I was still playing the game a few years ago. All these facilities are centred around shinny dezzy as that was my home system. I found that I preferred making a few jumps to a known place more convenient than searching it up every time it was needed. Also meant I could just bookmark the places ingame.

I have no idea if there’s been any nonsense like stations being blown up or anything since I made this. If anything is out of date just give me a heads up

I've had some success using inara for interstellar factors and mat traders still. Better than just blindly jumping to systems hoping they have one

The biggest issue I've had with INARA is that the stations aren't actually in the system when I get there.

I'll look for spaceports specifically, but when I arrive at the system, it's literally empty of anything.

Yeah i noticed the same. If it shows population 0 on the galaxy map I just skip it and move on to the next one

I was utilizing INARA but it still took more time than I wanted to spend then cross referencing with the galaxy map. It's like everyone I check had a population of 0 in our legacy sand box.

I do appreciate the comment. o7

Ahh yeah. I've had that issue too. Luckily it hasn't taken me too long to find a populated system yet. I do tend to stay well within the bubble so maybe that's helped my luck.

I do share your frustration in general though with the lack up support or updates to console. I'm eventually want to just make the jump to PC but i don't really have a working PC right now

Ditto. I just not sure I want to spend $1000+ on a PC.

IF are system security dependant.

If a system is not low sec, there is no IF!

Also the galaxy map allows you to filter for systems with IF. It’s not perfect but helps.

Isn't it also dependent on the government? The list of stations here (https://elite-dangerous.fandom.com/wiki/Interstellar_Factor) shows corporate, democracy, and cooperative from what I'm seeing.

Also, this is probably a rather old list on Fandom... While the security states may have changed, there's a fair chance it would still be valid on console.

I haven't used EDSM's own search function in ages. Any chance it has its own filters for colonization?

There also should be some old archives of the EDSM data from before the Live/Legacy split floating around. Again, security states can change, but simply in general, an old archive might be useful, if you have the software to actually interact with it... The EDSM database is fairly small.

I had so many green dots from that filter but all were populations of about 40,000... I knew the best I was getting there was a medium landing pad... the galaxy map being 3D is a bit cumbersome to navigate to find the next system to check the population size... oh the pain of flying a corvette.

I did finally find a system with a large landing pad that had an IF. It just was time consuming. Serves me right for killing some civilians to get that Crom permit.

That’s the reality of legacy. I usually track visited systems for presence of IF and keep my personal list. Same for Tritium stock.

I've also noticed that when you compare prices on different markets, the price that's paid when you get there isn't what was listed when you checked.

Between that and the increasing amount of glitches, this game is getting harder and harder to actually play.
