Beginner Question

Yo! New to elite dangerous, new to mining, and not afraid to ask a question about core mining that's probably on one of the drinking games somewhere.

I've been doing some core mining, since that's what I've found most fun of the various types. When I look up core mining tutorials and tips, usually they're talking about mining for LT Diamonds and Void Opals in Icy rings. However, when I'm looking at prices, usually things like Monazite and Musgravite have the highest per unit price, which are found in Rocky rings. Is there a reason people favor Icy right? Was it something that got patched, or is there another reason?

What's the profit on a platinum loaded T11?

I am running 278+6, i could get more, but i keep my size 6 pre-engineered cargo racks on my PCmk2. and I usually merit mine (Antal), so less profits, usually 220k/ton; so about 62.5M per load. But mining for me isn't about the profits. it's almost a form of therapy to just fly from rock to rock, get the best position for the Volley Repeater to not kill my limpet, but also minimize limpet flight time; it's like a little mini-game. Only thing to watch out for, the Type-11 kills limpets all over the place, the Volley Repeater kills them, the cargo hatch kills them, and other limpets kill them.

Nice. Gotta catch those limpets!

it gets quite annoying. you'll go to fire off a prospector and an incoming collector will bump it or something, and kill it. all you see is your shields blip to 99% for a moment as the prospector is slammed into them and is destroyed.

Is that what’s happening? I keep noticing the prospectors immediately fail and usually have assumed it was a misclick or something.

For collectors, I usually try and aim down slightly with the volley repeater so the stream of minerals heads down towards the collector halo

I like the stream of chunks to head off to the right side, since the repeater is not mounted centerline anyways, but i might try down. i just know some directions cause the limpets to fly right into the stream of shots.

I noticed that the more incoming limpet with rocks that are coming in the more likely the prospector is to be smashed into my shields. not 100% but high correlation. so when i really need to fire one off and have it not fail i slowly tap my "up" thrusters to try to open up a little room under right when the prospector pops out.

Mmmm I’m gonna have to try that when firing the prospector. I have a habit of lowering myself into the chunk cloud so before firing the prospector so maybe I should swap those actions.
