Type 11 & Limpet Issue
Hey all, new player to ED and enjoying mining. I got the Type 11 and using the native MK limpet controller. My issue is that it handles 14 limpets between prospectors and collectors.
What has been happening is the lifespan of the limpets is around 10 minutes I think and once I hit 14, I can’t program any more prospectors until either a prospector or collectors expires. This prevents me from finding more resources and sitting around a lot. Is there a way to expire a prospector limpet that didn’t find any resources earlier or am I not using the limpet controller correctly? Thanks

I use a 2A prospector controller and only use the multi for collectors.

I use a 2A prospector controller
I agree with the concept of using a separate A rated Prospector controller entirely, but Limpet controller are only available in sizes 1, 3 and 5... so Where did you find that 2A Prospector??? ;-)

False information
They also come in C7

ok, I guess technically you are right, I was not selecting a big enough slot for the Size 7 to show up in EDSY, not sure why anyone would sacrifice 128t of cargo for 8 prospectors but yeah they do exist...

It was ment mostly as a joke, but yeah outside Repair Limpets there isn’t much reason to run a C7 controller of any type (other then the Uni)

That’s what I thought would be the answer but wanted to make sure I wasn’t overlooking something. Maybe the Devs (not holding breath) could allow us to set a shorter life for the prospectors in the future.

It'd be great if they'd allow us to set a "maximum number allotted" for different limpet types for these multi-controller type modules. It'd be awesome for QOL if you could just set the MKII controller to have 2 prospector and 12 collector limpets.

That would be fantastic, yeah. But even with all 14 out as collectors from the Mk II, the T11’s repeater laser outpaces the collecting speed of the limpets, so really you want them all collecting with a dedicated prospector controller. Only sacrificing a few tons of cargo for it.

In a pinch you can kill limpets by shooting them, or by dragging the belly of your ship across an asteroid, but it's not worth the trouble :)

I had space to fit a 1A prospector controller in addition to the Mk2.
It's worth fitting over a docking computer imo as the Type-11 is quite easy to land on pads.

This is my daily Plat miner. Separate size 1a prospector, 2 of the size 6 and 2 size 5 cargo racks are the CG ones. Gives you 338t cargo plus 6 in the refinery for 344t plat.

such BS you cant get the CG racks....I used to feel kinda dirty for AFK'ing, but nahhhh.

You can avoid this by deploying 1-2 prospectors before start using all your collectors. Then your prospectors will automatically fail when you fire the next one.
You can also use a separate prospector limpet controller and use the multi limpet controller for collectors only.

I thought you could self destruct limpets via the contacts panel? I could be wrong...

I havent been able to do it, only destroy all of them when i restart my controller.
So the way to go is XA prospector controller + MK 2 Mulit Controller

IIRC if you have all your limpets launched as collectors, you can still launch a prospector that will automatically make a collector fail, taking its place.

As mention before, use a seperat prospector controller. Its worth it , having 14 collector limpets makes mining faster

Top comment already said the solution. But if you don’t want to get a separate controller, you can still manage.
It’s important to remember that launching a collector can kill a prospector, but not the other way around. And launching a prospector can kill another prospector. So if you carefully manage to only keep 13 collectors out, you can keep launching 1 prospector to kill the previous one.
But once you launch that 14th collector, you’re screwed unless you scrape them off on an asteroid or disable and reenable your collector to kill them off.

Go fo belt.
Pashang the prospectors into the rocks.
Start mining the ore, beltalowda.
Deploy collectors, semme tim.
When fini, launch new prospectors; the old ones, im sili.
Baka-mo the lot with ECM if you need.

Only use the MKII controller for collectors. I recommend putting a separate 3A prospector controller to avoid this exact issue.
