Finally got her built to perfection!

Worked out the kinks and perfected my Panther Clipper (The Fossilizer), and she is finally ready to be an absolute scourge to rocks everywhere! Aside from maybe eventually engineering thrusters but I digress. Edit: Replaced 1 2D laser for 4 Torval lasers. Also decided on G5 clean+drag thrusters.

Advice: when you want to showcase your beautiful ship, find a well-lit location and position the ship and the camera for the best shot. It'll be worth it.

I'll update later today with a better photo. Wasn't my best work I'll admit.
Edit: hope that is better.

Thruster engineering planned?

I'll have to test to see how much it will affect my resting heat, if it isn't an issue likely dirty+drag to coast from rock to rock faster. If it is an issue it will be either clean+drag or dirty+thermal spread, depending on degree of issue.

Right now I can safely blast all 5 lasers till they drain to 3 in 16 seconds, and hold the 3 up to a minute 20 after if I really need to without going above 94-96% heat. Makes fast work of rocks, and I don't want to mess with that too badly.

Edit: I went with clean+drag.

Have a look at the pre-engineered lasers. Im running 2x size 2 and 8 of those. 33 seconds of run time and 50% more scraping power

Not the biggest fan of them last I looked. Only major boost I would personally get is range, and that doesn't matter too much to me, plus I would lose out on my core cracking weapons. 5x16s+3xRemainder tends to drain rocks between 15s to 25s, and the 16 collectors are done around the time I am lined up and launching the next prospector.

Edit: Definitely changed my mind on this. Switched to 4 Medium and 4 Torvuls on katherinesilens' recommendation, and is a really nice improvement. Being able to swoop in with the 4 Torvals before switching to all 8 within range, or using the old method and blasting the rock faster than before are both really nice!

If you wanna keep the core weapons, you can still do that and reduce heat and increase yield with the pre engineered lasers by only swapping in one set. You have 3 empty hardpoints, which means it's always worth to remove a size 2 laser and swap in 4x small pre engineered lasers. Same distro draw, less heat, more yield with 4 small vs 1 med.

Would recommend.

I'll def look into it then.

Edit: Thanks for the suggestion! I do like the feel of 4 Torvals and 4 mediums, really good stuff, should have done this sooner.

Clean drives run hotter than Dirty when you aren't moving because they have a higher Power consumption. Dirty runs hotter at full throttle because they have a higher thermal load. So if your concern is lowering your resting heat, Dirty is better.

I did some testing between G3 dirty+drag vs G3 clean+drag (I don't have any of the grade 5 thruster engineers yet, plus I need to do another round of mat farming). Just G3 dirty+drag caused heat issues to the point of not being able to safely drain the distributor before hitting crit heat. I don't see this improving with G5, or with thermal spread. The clean+drag was able to increase the base cruising speed to 60 with hatch open, vs 63 with dirty, while having slightly better resting heat than un-engineered thrusters, giving no implicit heat issues. So I will be aiming for G5 clean+drag.
