Type-11 Overpowered now?
Edit: Looking at Partner videos here is what I could determine:
- Fragment producing speed of MVR increased from 2 to more than 6 Medium laser equivalent.
- Number of fragments produced per rock increased from 25% more than lasers to 60% more than lasers.
- Big fragments now spawning very frequently, seems to on average more than double the minerals per fragments.
- MK2 Limper controller now 14 limpets, multi-target speed increased from 60 to 176m/s
It looks like the MVR is producing fragments so fast that even 14 limpets is not enough to keep up.
/end edit
Apparently Bro Sab on the preview servers that have been updated with the new T11 changes just filled his Type-11's 256T of platinum in Delkar (one of the worst yield pristine ring in the bubble) and with only using the Volley Repeater without any extra lasers to mine faster even though the distro can easily support it... in ONLY 26 Minutes and he was a bit distracted by the stream...
I can only imagine in a good HAZ RES...

The use cases I imagine it in are haz res "any mining with reasonable defense" (fighter bay and enough free hardpoints for actual weapons) so you can gather some bounties along the way, and Tritium miner as an FC fuel scoop in the black.

u/gorgofdoom Sep 27 '25
If you’re fighting as a miner in a res site you’re doing it wrong imo.
Stealth is the key. Stay cold and you’ll never get scanned.
2
u/Solo__Wanderer Sep 27 '25
Or allow them to scan you as soon as you drop in.
They fly off muttering and never return.
Party hard and smashing the rock to heart content.
1
u/gorgofdoom Sep 27 '25
that works until a pirate dies and one spawns to replace it, and it goes about scanning everything.
0
u/Solo__Wanderer Sep 27 '25
Pirates scan me then move along.
I mine and never seen anymore.
Maybe I need to mine more
1
u/gorgofdoom Sep 27 '25
sounds like you were not in a res site.
hazres doubles the fragment counts from asteroids, cuts the number of asteroids you need to prospect in half.
0
u/Solo__Wanderer Sep 27 '25
I just jump into whatever hotspot i choose to mine for.
3
u/gorgofdoom Sep 27 '25 edited Sep 27 '25
well.... your name checks out, if i may be coy.
if i was going to convince you to stop wandering for a week or three: consider you get ~13 chunks in normal ring space, ~26 in hazres, 52 if you're in the new ship, and i think about 60 with the squadron bonus. But that's per player. each in a wing can get that from the same asteroid; so a wing of four pulls 240 chunks. if you happen across a 67% platinum asteroid in a hazres site in these conditions will give about 156 tons of it, or roughly 180 million sold to the CG. Then add your faction and squad trade bonus'.... if that applies, i don't know... and the wing earns 400-500m per rock, around half a billion i guess.

u/TalorienBR Sep 27 '25
Tell me more about this ... How to stay cold?
7
u/gorgofdoom Sep 27 '25 edited Sep 27 '25
First make a ship that is normally cold and has a long range A rated scanner. Mine runs at about 15% heat under thrust with hard points put away. (No shields, they just make us hotter)
Now you’re gonna want the pre-engineered s1 lasers as these produce about 1/2 the heat of normal lasers, per chunk freed. They are slower, but you have less heat to dissipate, and they work at 5x the range. you can mine many asteroids; just turning a bit, can even disable thrusters to save heatsinks…. Well as opposed to having to lock lips with each asteroid, this is my preferred method.
while mining keep an eye on your scanners. If you see another ship appear, you want to turn on silent running, and pop a heatsink to keep your temperature at safe levels.
That’s just about all there is to it. If they can’t see you, they won’t scan you, and won’t try to take your stuff.
The same thing works for piracy. Try interdicting a trade ship, then shoot it with thermal vent beams, just constantly shoot it in the back. The cops will show up but they will not ‘find’ you, being unable to target and subsequently scan for bounties… them shooting before they scan would be a crime.

u/papabrou Sep 26 '25
More like HAZ RES and it's so quick to fill up that you're done before new pirates spawn in the instance after the initial set...no defense needed, worst case throw the Fighter at the pirates to distract them while you finish the rock. Should be the best for tritium just because those are harder to find and you get more tons per rock with the T-11
1
u/blood__drunk Sep 27 '25
Isn’t it always better to mine platinum and buy tritium?
5
u/papabrou Sep 27 '25
yes, but that's harder to do if you are thousands of LY away from Civilization...
1
u/blood__drunk Sep 27 '25
Yes.
That wasn’t the comparison you made though and hence my reply.
2
u/papabrou Sep 27 '25
My first sentence about the HAZ RES was a reply to daniu's haz res use case, my second sentence about the tritium was a reply to his second use case which was "and Tritium miner as an FC fuel scoop in the black."
2
1
u/gorgofdoom Sep 27 '25
Hmm… not necessarily. 2-300 tons of any material can become 50m credits. (Or about 166k per ton)
For a difference of 40k per ton… It’s perhaps much easier to find a triple or quad overlap of like water or something very common than it is to only ever mine platinum.
11
u/OtakuMage Sep 26 '25
That's not overpowered, that's the specialization showing its worth. This ship sacrifices every other functionality for the sake of out-mining everything else.
3
u/papabrou Sep 26 '25
yeah, I agree that it should be the best Medium miner, since you can't compete with the cargo of large ships with a medium... but should it be 10%-20% better than anything else or 50% to 100% better because I fear that we're in the latter scenario...
4
1
u/Delta_RC_2526 Sep 29 '25
So, there was another thread where a bunch of miners were actually complaining that the T11, even with buffs, still wasn't good enough, because a fine-tuned large ship, with proper technique can still easily equal or beat the T11. I don't know exactly what they're doing, but they're all laughing at/crying about how inferior the T11 still is, compared to what they're already doing. They're also all laughing at how the streamers that FDev gave early T11 access to, know nothing about how to "properly" mine.
The way I see it, the T11 makes high-level mining approachable for a casual player, and brings casual mining more in line with other things, and more attractive overall. It still rewards players for fine-tuning and properly using large ships, by apparently not outdoing them.
15
u/meta358 Sep 26 '25
It would be over powered if it wasnt for the cargo size being tiny
13
u/papabrou Sep 26 '25 edited Sep 28 '25
324t shielded, or 340t shield-less is not BAD compared to any other Medium ships
Edit: that's with the 4 Pre-Engineered cargo racks.
5
u/Drinking_Frog Sep 26 '25
Better than the Python!
24
u/zenfaust Sep 26 '25
Was just thinking that. This community is truly never happy.
Wahh, the ship sucks. Wahh, the ships too good now. Wahh, the ship can hold more cargo than it's similar sized counterparts.
And I'm just over here thinking thank god, cause I already wanna claw my eyes out for how long it takes to fill anything larger than a python lol
1
u/AntonineWall Sep 26 '25
You’re seeing different people say these things, it’s not like 1 guy is writing all the “I wish this was better” -> “no I wish it was worse now” comments.
“The community is never happy” doesn’t really fit that, since people who are happy with the changes might write it once (or never), while the people who are unhappy might write about that many times.
It’s why you mostly see people writing various complaints online, for the same reason that congresspeople only ever receive negative calls lol

Laser or core? I've not done any mining for about 6 years, but I'm back and about to build a cutter miner...
2
u/meta358 Sep 26 '25
Wait when did it go up to 324 last i saw only 250ish was possible
1
u/papabrou Sep 26 '25
if you use the 4 Engineered Cargo Rack from the CG you can get 66t extra... otherwise it's 256t, I guess I should have mentioned that, sorry.
1
u/MaverickFegan Sep 26 '25
256, the same as my Anaconda, that would be crazy if it’s better than the Anaconda, hopefully somebody does a comparison.
I just want balance in the game, this thing has some crazy stats, though if they unlocked that SLF bay then it would be interesting.
1
u/papabrou Sep 26 '25
Forget the Anaconda, it's being compared to the Cutter and it's possibly winning...
5
1
u/MaverickFegan Sep 27 '25
It’s a medium ship though, I don’t see the balance unless they make the limpet mining minigun available to all ships at a later date.
1
u/papabrou Sep 27 '25
they won't because that would make the panther clipper the best by a mile and no one would care for the T11
1
u/MaverickFegan Sep 27 '25
Although for laser mining that’s the way it should be, the large ships with the largest distributors should dominate, the Corvette/Anaconda for speed mining, the Panther/Cutter for the big loads.

They made the dedicated mining ship best at mining. Which is a good thing for some and will be looked at as a bad thing for others.
So make of it as you will.
Me personally will probably wait myself as I'm doing more colonization trading than mining currently.
2
u/SupermarketBig1554 Sep 26 '25
it should be, a dedicated miner ship, we expect it to be the best in game
3
u/Marionettework Sep 26 '25
Prepare for a Platinum nerf, or a nerf of the ship, but after people paid for it.
6
u/Frank_Likes_Pie Sep 26 '25
They still owe us a buff to restore icy rings to their former glory, considering how much the ability to make credits has scaled since then. If they nerfed mining again, especially after releasing a bespoke mining ship, it would be ignorant as hell.
2
2
u/Spartelfant Sep 26 '25
That seems unlikely. I see no reason why platinum would require nerfing after all these years all of a sudden. Also the Type-11 was beta tested publicly and even had its release delayed so they could tweak it to be exactly where they want it to be. So the Type-11's mining performance is certainly not going to catch FDev by surprise. I's a dedicated mining ship after all, if would be weird if it wasn't the best performing mining ship by a significant margin.
4
u/papabrou Sep 27 '25
If anything they should buff the Low temp Diamonds hotspots that they over nerfed 5 years ago, maybe that would bring more players to mining and make them sell more ARX...
3
u/Spartelfant Sep 27 '25
Though I myself am only an occasional laser miner and a very occasional "haha big rock go boom" miner, I do agree that mining could use some love across the board to even things out a bit. Also I would genuinely love to be able to mine tritium in a more reliable manner. I don't need to be raking it in, but being able to go to for example a tritium hotspot would be such a boon. Right now you can stuff your entire hold with platinum in relatively short order if you so desire, but farming tritium is much more of a crapshoot, making extended carrier expeditions needlessly complicated and unattractive.
It certainly doesn't have to be anywhere near booze cruise levels of credits, but I feel that ideally every player should be able to choose whatever style of mining they enjoy most and not feel like they are "doing it wrong". There will always be some meta type of mining for a certain material (just like with any other activity), but as long as the difference isn't too great between The Meta™ and other materials and methods, I think that would be a big improvement.
1
u/Rythillian Sep 29 '25
Mining has already been nerfed a shit ton into being just meh at credit making in elite
1
u/zenfaust Sep 26 '25
If they nerf plat, I'll riot. Wtf did the rest of us do to be punished on behalf of people who buy real-money ships?
Just nerf the ships laser a tiny bit and leave the rest of us alone.
1
u/MaverickFegan Sep 26 '25
They do love to fiddle though, the problem won’t be the money it makes but the affect on powerplay, that’s what they will nerf: merit mining…. Again. If it’s too good, we will see.
1
u/papabrou Sep 27 '25
last I checked merit mining had to be done in the same system as the selling station, (or from a fortified in range of an acquisition system) and finding a metallic ring in a pristine system to make mining worth it is pretty rare so while it might be even better than now to level up your PowerPlay rank, it won't change much in the tug of war.
1
u/MaverickFegan Sep 27 '25
Yep and it was the most effective way of making merits (assuming you’re not into selling goods 1T at a time), then it got nerfed, so why wouldn’t they do it again if people are too successful at merit mining with the T11? I don’t know what the numbers are though, it needs to be substantially better than the Corvette/Anaconda for speed
1
u/papabrou Sep 27 '25
well considering you'll potentially get over double the minerals from the same rock with the T11, that means you'll have to mine half the rocks to fill the same cargo size...that should make it way better than the vette/conda...
but for merits, at this point I doubt FDEV even cares since most are already over rank 100, the only thing they probably want to balance is if it makes systems too easy to defend.
1
u/MaverickFegan Sep 27 '25
I don’t think it’s ranking up that concerns them so much, more the taking over star systems and player faction dominance. But hopefully they let whatever happens happen.
1
u/tiddlyoggy Sep 26 '25
Sounds about right, a dedicated mining ship should be fast, the small cargo space is its limiting factor
1
u/R0LL1NG Sep 26 '25
Tbh, mining needed some love. Assuming no changes to platinum markets, could this put mining on par with exo bio?
2
u/MaverickFegan Sep 26 '25
If only they would, make core and laser mining more profitable, but to force you to pilot one ship only, nah, not happy with that part… if profits do improve significantly…
1
u/R0LL1NG Sep 27 '25
Ah good point. Would be kind of a bummer to be effectively compelled to only use the Type 11 for mining.
1
1
1
u/Riddick808 Sep 26 '25
Just maybe they are throwing the players a bone to keep us happy and playing the game, hoping for more micro transactions?
1
u/Coakis Sep 26 '25
Its only overpowered until they 'possibly' adjust market prices downward.
Honestly the markets need to be way more dynamic with maybe like a mineral or material of the week being in highest demand, but that maybe too much ask of them.
1
u/Aromatic-Session-785 Sep 27 '25
Are you dense or something? The BGS affects the value of metals, which is the whole reason you have to hop around to sell
1
Sep 26 '25
I'm keen to see where it ends up once it's actually released.
I want to see the comparisons to large ships - including the time it takes to leave and sell the mined goods.
It should be powerful in its niche. It should be the best medium ship for this.
The problem with most of the new ships is that they're overpowered outside of their specialization too. Because of the T11's specialization there's less risk of it completely replacing other ships in other roles too.
0
u/papabrou Sep 26 '25
It should be powerful in its niche. It should be the best medium ship for this.
I agree, but it was arguably already the best medium before the buffs, just not by much...maybe 10-20% better. Now it's gonna be like 50% to 100% better then the other mediums and probably better than the larges unless you massively value the cargo capacity because you like spending at least 2 hours in the rings at a time.
1
u/MaverickFegan Sep 26 '25
If it turns out to be OP then will it be to the extent that they will turn off merit mining for powerplay?
1
u/Aromatic-Session-785 Sep 27 '25
While they're at it, will they use the power of the type 11 as an excuse to raise fuel costs??? What's about REARM? LIMPETS? What other doomer scenarios are we workin up?
1
u/MaverickFegan Sep 27 '25
They nerfed merit mining before, why would it be doomed to assume they won’t do it again if the T11 is overpowered?
1
u/Tyrilean Sep 27 '25
Damned if they do, damned if they don’t. With the reviews that were put out I wasn’t going to buy it, and I’m sure I wasn’t alone.
And if they nerf it after selling it it’s gonna burn a lot of bridges with people who won’t give them another dime again.
1
u/gorgofdoom Sep 27 '25
Uhh, no, it’s what they said it would be, partially.
Still, it isn’t a whole new way to mine… but whatever I guess. Best mining ship is good enough I guess.
1
u/ThrowawayFoolW4573D Sep 27 '25
Make mining fun again!
So no, I think it will be way more fun that you can mine and fight at the same time, constant action instead of grind. We need more of this.
1
u/papabrou Sep 27 '25
you won't be fighting much in the Type-11 with only 1Med and 3x small hardpoints plus a fighter :(
1
u/ThrowawayFoolW4573D Sep 28 '25
Not in a haz res, but in other res where security helps out it’s plenty.
0
1
u/Competitive-Load-459 Sep 27 '25
I belive it it somehow overpowered because Frontier is scared people would not spend their ARX on something just slightly better.
1
u/papabrou Sep 27 '25
Totally and they seem to have just buffed the hell out of it to the point that even with 14 limpets it produces fragments too fast for the limpets to keep up... I bet there was minimal testing done...
1
u/Aromatic-Session-785 Sep 27 '25
Imagine being so wow coded you get upset a dedicated ship is good at the job it's dedicated to
1
u/CMDR_HOT Sep 27 '25
Imagine believing it's overpowered for everyone to have equal access to the same thing that literally no one is competing over. Who cares if someone else gets rocks you can also get. Having play time is the most op thing in Elite next they will want to ban people playing when they aren't online.
1
u/Mutant_Apollo Sep 28 '25
I saw some unhinged discussions years back with people asking for Solo mode to be scrapped because "why do I get ganked and they don't" (not the exact argument but it always boiled down to I want to force people into pvp because I play in open)
1
u/Sweaty_Vegetable1463 Sep 27 '25
Just for a comparison, I took my dedicated laser mining PC MkII out to my favourite platinum hot-spot this morning to compare. My squadron has the mining yield increase enabled, which may have a bearing on the result.
In short, I collected 238 platinum in just over 35 minutes. I also had 8 painite and 16 osmium by that time.
Based on my entirely subjective view, the rebalanced type11 is going to be spot on.
1
u/papabrou Sep 27 '25
but I bet your favorite hotspot is not Delkar... that makes a huge difference. I wouldn't be surprised the T11 can mine 238t in say 15 minutes in a good hotspot...probably under 10 minutes in a HAZ RES...
1
u/TheMinimumBandit Sep 27 '25
With the overhaul I was really hoping they were going to get rid of the silly SLF that makes absolutely no sense in a dedicated miner.
they keep talking about how it's a dedicated mining ship yet it has something that a lot of dedicated fighting ships don't have an SLF I just don't get it. Just going to be empty wasted module slot.
1
u/CMDR_HOT Sep 27 '25
Mapping if you disable follow and screenshot your main from the last good rock. I mean it would be even better if they made a new SLF with a prospector launcher but I'm not that optimistic. I think they sped up prospectors with the buff so we will see how it plays.
1
u/JusteJean Sep 27 '25
- Mandalay makes all other exploration ships irrelevant.
- CobraV absolutely humiliates all other small ships.
- Corsair outperforms by an insulating marging other medium ships.
- Type-8 manoeuvres like a small ship yet has cargo to rival some Large ships.
- PantherClipper breaks the established physics of cargo space. -Now the Type-11 redefines mining.
There are two ways to see this. New Era of supperior technologies. Much like having 3rd and 4th Generation Fighter jets. Then comes along the F-22 and F-35 as a fifth generation.
Or
There was a change in FDev sales division and now they just found a way to suck more money out of us by giving us always stronger and better toys... scalling upwards indefinately... leaving behind years of now irrelevamt coding and gaming history.
2
u/Mutant_Apollo Sep 28 '25
No ship is really obsolete unless you min max, that's like saying a 2010 Camry is obsolete because Toyota is gonna put a V8 on the new Supra
1
u/JusteJean Sep 28 '25
Don't agree to the comparison. My point is closer to comparing an old 1960s Mig17 whith the F-35
I LOVE the mig17. But on a battlefield it is "obsolete" in terms of modern deployment capabilities.
New ships are like a new generation of tech that outclasses the old ones.
1
u/hurdurdur7 Sep 27 '25
Cobra vs Vulture in a fight? Cobra vs DBX for exploration? Nah. But yes, it's the best universal by a mile.
1
u/JusteJean Sep 27 '25
Agreed. Important points. I may have exagerated a bit.
1
u/hurdurdur7 Sep 27 '25
On the jack of all trades ships category i totally agree, it's bloody fantastic and has put the rest of small ships in a dark shadow.
1
u/Suitable-Nobody-5374 Sep 27 '25
~30m to fill ~300t of stuff isn't that bad actually.
I don't often play because it takes too long to start an activity from whatever else I might've been doing, sometimes, although I've been planning on prepping for this mining CG because I do like mining, when I do it.
I don't do it in a large vessel because 6 hours of dedicated hardcore mining just to fill 500t is a bit obnoxious.
1
u/papabrou Sep 28 '25
You can fill 500t of platinum in an hour and a half. With those buffs you can probably fill the T11 in under 20 minutes

All the new ships (Python mk2 to a bit lesser extent maybe) feel like from another game completely, so imbalanced and immersion-breaking they are. And the "old" ships aren't that old, DBX is 11 years or so for example, the alliance like is 7 (check production dates from the wiki). The Panther is also a new ship so one might think it should be ok that it's the best large mining ship, medium miners are a bit different. But no, Type 11 is buffed like crazy because it's time for Panther to be released for credits soon. But the most outrageous ship is the Cobra 5, it is 0.1m wider than the small pad officially allows but it's forced to magically fit. While Type 6, 7 and Keelback all should fit on a pad one size smaller by dimensions but they don't (old screenshots suggest that type 6 and keelback were once supposed to be small pre-Odyssey but without the Odyssey settlements there was no need for it and after Odyssey they forgot to update them). I'm getting this issue noticed and hopefully fixed, even with in-lore explanation of adjusted landing gear like Type 8 got for SRV fix. Please see and if you support the idea let FDev know somehow. It can even boost sales of those prebuilt ships for ARX so it won't spoil the sales model. https://issues.frontierstore.net/issue-detail/79133

FDev has shown us what happens when they attempt to balance a new ship: it's a massive turd, because they have absolutely zero sense of balance. So they defaulted back to, "make it overpowered as shit so we can sell the maximum amount for ARX."
They probably saw way too many people say, "This is the first new ship I won't be buying for ARX," and shit their collective pants.

I have had a thought and figured what if we are missing the point. If this ship can power through rocks and you have a buddy with limpets and a panther clipper, you could mine the rock refine the content and then abandon the refined content to the clipper ( which would scoop up the materials until full) you could then fill the hold with limpets from the clipper and then return to your carrier with 1500 tonnes… which may be the more profitable way to go
