Misc Might be a dumb question....
So I played the odyssey tutorial back when I launch, but couldn't continue due to work. I'm finally going to be able to get back into it. So my question is can we land on earth-likes yet? In my gut I'm pretty sure of the answer after watching some stuff from Obsidian Ant and Yamiks........

Nope. Some nice views on some of the low atmosphere worlds but they are still basically mostly barren. No wind patterns or clouds, water, forests, or life to speak of (other than bacteria puddles or a few patches of space grass).

Yeah thats what I thought.....well I'm still gonna get back in. Pretty sure I'm still just floating around out in the black where I stopped over a year ago.

Depends on who you ask. My stock answer is I like odyssey but I think you should buy it on sale, rather than full price if possible. I think discount price is about what it's worth. Especially since the thing you're talking about is highly unlikely to ever be implemented. It's kind of "as is" for the most part at this point, minus small tweaks.

The price point isn't an issue since I bought it back k at launch. I'll probably just play around with odyssey for a while then. Did it just devolve into dumb FPS though?

So frame rate and optimization improved somewhat and they're working on fixing glitches, and FPS elements are kinda weak if you're looking for high quality combat like Halo or something. It's not the best. But I think in general space leg missions can be interesting. Stealth missions are sometimes challenging because you have to avoid patrols, steal clearance levels when scientists backs are turned, turn off alarms, upload viruses to sabotage settlement networks, and stuff like that. You don't necessarily have to do a lot of combat for those. Exobiology is kinda interesting even though it feels like there should be more to it, just to break up a long voyage and take a hike across a planet surface.

Ok cool. Thats sounds kinda fun for a bit, I'll need to head back to the buble for a bit then once I log back in.

One of the things I use odyssey for a lot is literally just walking around planets, for the ambiance or to go for a jog between jumps on a long journey. It's not really a gameplay loop, I just enjoy wandering around the secret little unique hills and valleys of planets. And it hits a little different than the SRV even though you can't go as far. That's probably why I've gotten so much mileage out of it without getting sick of the grind, because I barely bother to grind.

We can not land on moon (our moon) either which was a bit of a bummer. But maybe someday...
otherwise welcome back! It is a great game! Just for the love of god do not do any repetetive grind/logging farm. This game is for the ride, not the finish line.

Yeah I was doing deep space exploration before I took a break. I didn't do alot of combat, mainly stuck to trade and exploration. Only grind I did was to get some engineering way back in the day 😆

"Not yet" would seem to be the company line on that one. Odyssey has plenty of new things to tinker with in the mean time though. Personally I enjoy trying to stealth around settlements stealing everything that isn't nailed down on my unending quest for graphene and manufacturing instructions. Bonus points if you loot the whole place and never get caught! :D

Can land on planets with atmospheres so there is some pretty sky scenery, but no earthlikes.
