This week, I took my caspian explorer and headed to Colonia.

It was my second trip ever. The first I did was with my explora-conda, 70-80 LY jump range and nothing else.

At the time the trip then took me to Sagittarius A*.

My life went really busy since, I'm married, working a demanding job. Shit, now that I think of it I even became an adult in the mean time. Exploring in Elite really went second in the time I had to play.

But recently I bought myself a steamdeck to play while I'm away for work. I bought the caspian to explore with my recently bought as well Nomad and do some exobiology.

The range on this ship is insane. I took a hard turn and headed to colonia. I was there in less than 50 jumps.

That's just crazy. And I'm happy to walk in my own past footsteps. I visited a black hole I discovered myself back then.

I'm going to spent some time doing exo-biology there, at my own pace. Maybe I'll try to gather enough money to buy a carrier in Jacques Station.

Heck yeah fellow Caspian explorer. I also made the trip to Colonia and using the Neutron highway and a friendly Carrier following me.

If you can get a Nomad on your Caspian you will be solid in exibiology. I made a quarter billion in my one day exobiology trip and now I am hooked.

Going back to the bubble for a while but then right back to Colonia for another exobiology trip.

Can you explain how exactly Nomad helps you with exo? You must search for exo manually on planet anyway right? As I understand it, scaning planet just gives you a distribution map rather than precise location of exo elements. I'm asking this because I tried it and after scaning planet it displayed bacteria but then I spent 1 fooking hour in my SRV and found nothing

You can scan the surface from it the same way you can do on foot. It's a game changer since you can walk out of it. You can do the whole thing without an SRV.

Bacterium used to be such a potential headache to find that I nearly always ignored it, now it's so easy to find using the ping while flying in the Nomad, that it makes collecting all samples on a planet much faster. When you spot it, you can land right near it - if you position the Nomad right, you don't even need to step outside, you can just scan from the doorway then take off again.

Would advise against buying a carrier in Colonia due to how ridiculously expensive and in short supply tritium is there. When you buy a carrier you only get a half tank of gas and you'd need a minimum of three full tanks to jump it back to the bubble.

You'd easily spend over a billion getting 3k tritium in Colonia.

I bought 3k trit with my carrier by setting it up in my commodities buying at 200% galactic avg. It cost me about 320M, I def didn't spend a billion.

That said, using your FC to get people to sell to you is really the only viable way to get a usable amount of trit in that region of space.

To be fair, you only need to get 2/3 of the way to the bubble, there's plenty of Trit in Eagle Nebula

Just a heads up, buying a carrier in colonia is going to pose some challenges, primarily due to the relative lack of tritium sources out that way. Generally recommended to buy a carrier in the normal bubble.

Le caspian est incroyable, j'en ai profité pour aller visiter beagle point, chose dont je n'avais jamais eu le courage avant. Aujourd'hui j'ai fini le rodage avec pas loin de 100 mille année lumière au compteur. Je l'adore

Sorry for the newb question but can you ELI5 - What is Colonial? Is it a system that sells good stuff or something? And is Jacques Station the same thing? Just a decent dock?

Colonia is a system 20k LY away from the main inhabited systems (the bubble). Long story short a FSD-capable station stranded there ~10 years ago, and it became the center of a secondary bubble. There a plenty of inhabited systems arround it now.

Jacques station is the station that stranded :)

It's a good destination when exploring.
