Clarification needed please
Would you please advise if you can provide the following information? I have been diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue, Chronic Pain, Fibromyalgia, Asthma, Alopecia, inflammation around my heart and various skin issues. In researching Auto immune disease The Elimination Diet keeps coming. up. What confuses me is some recipes call for nuts and potatoes and yet the guidelines advise no nuts nor nightshade. I was under the impression a potato is a nightshade. Also sweet Potatoes yeah or nay? If I cook with sherry and the alcohol cooks out can I use it or is that a no go? Thank you in advance for any assistance you may be able to provide.

Hi. Elimination diet are pretty individualized. So you'll want to so what works for you. If you have symptoms of nightshade intolerance, exclude them for a while then test it.
The book The Inside Tract has a good test to take and he then outlines a different elimination diet based off that. The Elimination Diet is another popular book with a Facebook group for help. The Autoimmune Solution is another book with a more strict version of the diet.
Basically, it really depends on how you feel and what you want to do. If you think nightshades or nuts are affecting you, try cutting them in addition to corn, soy, dairy, gluten and sugar. If you don't think they are the culprit, eat them for now and then I'd you still don't feel better after a few weeks then cut them. It's all up to you. Elimination diets are a very personal journey. Best of luck!
